Julie and Luke, Viscountess and Viscount Hinchingbrooke, welcome you backstage at Britain’s Finest Manor* to share the joys and challenges of life on a 21st century English country estate.

We are incredibly lucky to live in such beautiful and historic surroundings. But maintaining a large country house is no picnic - even for the family that invented the sandwich. Everything needs constant repair - we’re always running around trying to plug the leaks!

So please help support this important part of England’s heritage and join our journey of restoration and discovery, with weekly episodes, behind-the-scenes content and special events.

The launch of Mapperton Live has been made possible by a Culture Recovery Fund for Heritage grant.

Hmm, I love Julia 's vacation house in Italy ... while I feel for you I feel that asking regular folks to just give you money is asking too much. If the estate can't make money maybe it needs to become a school likeHinchingbrook. You still have the London Town Home, so I think you're much better off than all your viewers.

Gee.....Looks like the British aristocracy is still looking for HEIRESSES to bill them out of their debts and rebuild these dilapidated mansions, palaces and castles. Sorry, there are no more colonies to plunder off their natural resources and treasures to take back to Britain in order to live like Kings & Queens. Sadly there are no more American heiresses to save you all from your crumbling castles and Julie is definitely not an heiress although I am sure she thought she hit the jackpot when she married into the British aristocracy as likes to say at the beginning of her vlogs. Good news is, there are now Chinese heiresses and soon there will be plenty of African heiresses too although you Brits are used to taking and stealing off Africa.

Second suggestion: have you ever sold any of your trees for lumber? A friend’s family owns a large property in northern Michigan, and sold some trees to raise money to pay for repairs from a fire. That would also be environmentally responsible. Existing trees have already captured carbon, but they don’t capture more. If they become part of a building, they permanently store carbon. New trees, OTOH, capture carbon as they grow.

First suggestion: you might want to invite the RU-vidrs Bernadette Banner and/or the Van Wives, Crystal and Jasmine. Bernadette Banner would love all your old clothes. The Van Wives love to travel, and they can fix ANYTHING.

Why bother with the large estate. I understand the prestige and all that come with it, but we can't take that with us in the next dimension. Simplify my friends, it will DO WONDERS for you.

Landslip is about a 350 thousand dollar project if you don't do a road realignment. More if you do. Can you plant out the area that is slipping with a deep rooted local province vegetation? i.e. rewild it?

I would not swim in that pool if someone paid me to, untreated water has bacteria and even with a filtration system it doesnt take it out, and you will get a bad ear infection as a result as I have quite a few times...ask me how I know i have one, smaller but with pumps and filters.... I finally used treated water with proper chemicals and treatments and its safe to swim in

I visited Mapperton House on 02.06.2024, as my 277th historic house in UK. Was a wonderful visit! What a pity the guidebook was out of stock. I have one of every single house visited! I guess I need to come back and visit it again! 🙂

Maybe outline priorities and set a Go Fund me for each project. It might be nominal at first but if you document priority areas it'll keep people engaged seeing the progressive restoration of a section. People will see value if they see the recults of where their donations go :)

I wonder if algea can be harvested and used for something? Fermented and made into an alcoholic beverage, livestock feed, insulation, pasta, etc? Are there fish that eat algea? More turtles would be good but a floating turtle habitat would be nice. Maybe a floating log or something?

Hi Julie and Luke, I’m a big fan. I think it’s important to be realistic about the interest that your children and siblings have in committing themselves to the Estate. You are youthful, brilliant, and energetic, and what a burden you’ve inherited. To some children and beneficiaries, this set of assets would be glorious but too daunting and pre-determinant of their futures. You and the younger members of your family are the stakeholders. If they are not willing to commit their lives to this estate, as you have, now is the time to develop a realistic succession plan, whether to sell to a money-is-no-object buyer or to vest to the Trust, if they have interest. Truth be told, you could cash out and buy a much smaller but equally and differently interesting property that will still provide a lifetime of projects and fun RU-vids. You have not failed or disappointed anyone. BTW, this is not unlike the challenges of succession for other kinds of large holdings- small or large businesses, or significant but scattered portfolios of real estate holdings. Choose wealth and self-determination for you and your family, instead of being shackled to a family property that will predictably drain your resources and energy.

And, by the way, it’s clear that selling the “little Italian house” wouldn’t begin to address the financial needs of Mapperton, now it in the future. Enjoy your getaway and opportunity to exercise your Italian language skills. Best to both of you! Carol

DEFINITELY clean and maintain the Queen Elizabeth bath/pool. EVERYONE would love to see it and your overnight guests would most certainly use it. It is treasure that could be shared, and an experience for those who are truly interested in the history of your magnificent home, and how the past owners and visitors would have utilized the features of the various pools.

Hey this is definitely no 19th century gown. The Bridgerton fantasy is somehow related to the Regency wich lasts for more than 20 years until the coronation of Victoria 1838. This is 17th century which the old Lady mentions.

I could never swim with creatures in the pool. Kudos to you🎉! Isn't this the same pool and Elizabeth bath we saw before? Stephen and Claire haven't worked/filmed here in a couple of years. I remember a lot of this footage. 🤔 Lots of memories! Love seeing Stormy again!!!! ❤️ You definitely need your own Reality series to earn money! Love and hugs!!!!! Thinking of "natural" swimming pools that I've seen, there are far more plants than those few floating islands provide. Even doubling the number would not bring enough benefits. It needs the reeds mentioned, and as many islands as can be included without impeding the ability to swim. There ought to be a way of directing the inflow of water through a reed bed. This would remove a lot of nutrients before they got into the rest of the pond. Well managed natural swimming pools can be crystal clear without the need for any other form of filtration.

Have you considered using a number of Horse Hay nets filled / stuffed with good quality Barley straw and distributed around the pool , thinking 3 per side and one at each end . A method I have used in irrigation reservoirs for many years , keeps the water crystal clean , you obviously have very high nitrate levels from the mains water and run off from the fields . Cheers Clive

It would be lovely to put in a heavy liner and make it a pool that quests would feel comfortable in. The guests would be overjoyed and so much less work for your team, safer to swim in too. There are non chlorine cleaners that are healthier.

Ahhh, the Saga of Splurtle (and poor Nester). I can still hear the echo of poor Nester's ominous refrain "I'm allowed to?". I fear that this same refrain might also be echoed in the unseen "tower", or possibly the unmentionable "dungeon". Where has Nester been?

Consider building ramps in both the pool and pond so the wildlife can get out. I notice in the dron shots the pond always seems a lof clearer, I think more aquatic plants in the pool like you have discussed would help a lot. Better water flow and aeration would help, maybe get some floating solar powered fountains as a relatively inexpensive way to get that going.
