You brothers are romanticising short-term talking stages, but the number of divorces in the really religious part of our community who get married within a few meets are disproportionately high compared to the rest of the community - and many more stories of emotional abuse come out as well. One or two meets where a person is telling you what they think you want to hear isn't enough to draw out major deal breakers and people's crazy streaks, let alone incompatibility flaws. A marriage is going to be the longest term investment you make gotta do research properly and see their natural character

You guys spoke the truth. You just need to do it the right way, pray isthikhara at the beginning and it will be clear. You can still keep it balanced where you spend a few months getting to know someone, in public even after you’ve prayed isthikhara but it’s true it doesn’t need to take long. If the person ticks your boxes, you’ve spent some time getting to know each other then what is the reason for the delay? Also, first and foremost before considering marriage, Allah swt and our 5 pillars of Islam need to be the centre of our lives, prayer, fasting etc. You don’t have to be a ‘religious akhi or ukhti’ to just meet the foundations and bare bones of our deen.
I think GOWING with the flow is the wrong mindset to have when you’re getting to know someone for the purpose of marriage. a person should have their topics of discussion, their non negotiables etc ready and express them in a conversational way. Marriage is serious so let’s pursue it in a serious way by staying within the boundaries of الله ‘azzawajel. Muslims have started to adopt the courtship phase like non Muslims and are shocked that their affair don’t finish well.. What do you expect from a date in an arcade where the two are in seclusion + the oukthy is dressed up tabarruj ++ & on top of that the Salah kicks in, no one cares about the prayer. they just carry on with the night… My point is : don’t expect smth good from this if you disobeyed الله in the methodology of seeking it. I think talking stage should end once you know you want to marry the person ur speaking to, If I have concerns or still trying to figure things out that’s when it may take longer

Men and women are able to have productive conversation and get wisdom from each other, there's literally sheikhs and imams having women on their shows and podcasts and collaborating with them. @@mahadwarsame7530 I'm not sure it's fair for you to assume my reply was based on emotion, but regardless - referring to the scholars of the ummah in terms of what is acceptable behaviour to highlight my point regarding productive discussion was just to highlight that there seems to be the assumption online that men and women coexisting in the same spaces or interacting with each other, especially in this case where I was suggesting productive and structured intellectual discourse that's beneficial for the viewer, would hardly constitute what the term "freemixing" connotates. Secondly, the majority of opinions around "freemixing" are based on one of the principles of Islamic Jurisprudence, namely ‘blocking the means’ (sadd al-dhara’i‘) to proactively prevent things that could result in harmful outcomes. To assume that a structured, (not to mention filmed) discussion involving men and women having civil dialogue is free mixing and will result in harm to the iman of the people involved is stretching the purpose of the concept, to put it generously. When people make halal things haram, this results in kaba'ir becoming common and easy, and we can see this from the overly segregated communities around the world and the harms that become frequent there within its societies, which I won't go into. Furthermore, online Muslim culture has become notorious for hunting Muslim women for just existing in public spaces and providing a space where we could hear respectful discussion would be something I'm always personally be interested in. Might not be everyone's cup of tea but it is what it is. And Allah knows best.
I think micro interactions change attitudes and minds and make people less of a "brick wall". Multicultural communities are incredibly important for this - people have been raised with each other and broken bread and work together and can relate on a human level to people different to them so give weight to their political/social opinions. We saw a lot of this from non-Muslim allies in the pro Palestine movement, people who knew you were willing to listen whereas the average Betty would roll her eyes and think "these Muslims bringing Middle Eastern problems here"
Queen of the south is so disappointing man I've been watching it the last two weeks and IT MAKES NO SENSE, I can't get past everyone speaking to each other in English when they're all supposed to be Mexican born and bred. And not a single Somali actor in that group of pirates they literally grabbed a variety of black people, mostly West African, and called them all "Somalis" ..like get your shit together please
