Anyone remember Steve’s “Amazing Facts and Figures” Show on Saturdays at 1pm to 2pm in the very early 1980’s…When Radio1 and Radio2 used to merge weekends…..It filled in for the Adrian Juste show slot occasionally…..Later to become the “Factoids “ he incorporated into his Steve Wright in the Afternoon shows….😎
Back in 1996 when so many radio stations available with plenty verities to choose from and local. In South Yorkshire radio 2 wasn't the choice. Lincs FM was the best that had a big playlist. Few years later Saga FM launched which radio 2 should have been like but thankfully Saga FM from Nottingham which was picked up in South Yorkshire was much better than radio 2. I had radio 2 on When out of reach for Saga FM and when radio 2 was the only main choice in those areas I thought radio is very poor choice. Looking at parts of the Yorkshire coast like Scarborough only radio 2 was only worth listening too but wasn't the best but that's all they was. Today in radio it doesn't really matter wherever you are you will always pick up the same radio stations with everything been 95% national.
What a terribly poor interviewer. She lets Thomas get away with not answering any question directly and my guess is Thomas was given the questions in advance so propaganda BBC can look good at the end of it. I doubt anyone preferred Mills to Wright but now sadly they have no choice but to listen to that clown or switch as I have done to Greatest Hits Radio. When will Feedback grow some balls and question properly BBC executives?
What the BBC did to Steve was a disgrace. Though he put on a brave face, they took away his reason to exist, his public. This is a man thats touched half the population with his wit, professionalism and humour. I cant listen to Radio 2 anymore, its so sad, spent over half my life listening and being entertained by him.Whatever was going on in your life,Steve always made you laugh and smile, Life will never quite be the same. RIP Steve, weve truly lost our "Old Friend". Tata for now.
You got me through my O’grades in 1980 on Radio 1. With Mr Angry and the posse. When you were on you never felt alone. On holidays, on the beach, or when I was trucking and everywhere else. Married kids almost grown up, no radio presenter is or was like you, this generation don’t understand but you were unique, unequalled to any other radio presenter. Your children should be proud of you. Creator of the radio zoo format.
Its awful looking up his name just to find people hating on and wishing awful things to happen to him. First thing that comes up on Reddit looking him up is people hoping he gets caught as a nonce in some scandal or something. People genuinely somehow hated him enough they wished both him and innocents got hurt. What happened to swapping to another channel? Anyways, i miss his voice dearly. He reminds me a lot of my Dad and had very similar humour.
Absolute disgrace how the bbc treated this absolute legend. Just because he was white and male. Shame on you’BBC! Class is permanent. Defund the BBC! It’s time for the liberal club to go now!
I think it's fair to say that Steve was a one off. From Radio 1 back in the eighties with Mr Angry, Damian the social worker, Sid the Manager and so on..... to Radio 2, Ask Elvis, Barry from Watford etc. I could come home from a day shift at work feeling crap. Then I would listen to to Steve Wright in the afternoon. By 5pm the world had become a better place. Thanks for everything Sir, you will always be a legend. Rip.
Wright had the best radio voice in UK history. Didn’t even like radio 2 but I liked Steve made my afternoons feel more alive. Thanks Steve you’ll be missed.
Has Radio 2 listening figures dropped? Radio 2 and Radio 4 each lost about one million listeners, with the latter down by almost 10 per cent. Radio 1, Radio 3 and Radio 5 Live also registered losses, as did the World Service.1 Feb 2024
Hope Steve is keeping Terry Wogan, Alan Freeman, Tommy Vance, Annie Nightingale and John Peel entertained up there in heaven. You won't see his like again. One of the true pioneers and innovators. A humble and almost shy character though. Sadly missed..
