@@whatshappeningintheshop True, when it comes to levers and cables I always go all original, but when it comes to 70s and 80s stuff its not always so easy. That swingarm axle was salvageable, you just need to know how to deal with it from the get go
Great video! I'm restoring a WR250F so I will be using your method. Too many people use gas torches which just brings the oils in the plastics to the surface and makes it brittle. and not the proper method you have done. Those little bits you did with the torch are on much thicker stronger parts too.
Thanks ! Yeah I try not to use the torch much but some areas are hard to get the buffer in . Its a lot of work to do a tank but just have to stick with it. Thanks for watching
Hi, I had a 1978 DT175 in the eighties. I liked the design of it, but the head gasket always blew through because the iron head bolts came out of the aluminum cylinder... To prevent the piston from seizing, I had to use a very large carb jet. Never got this problem fixed and then changed to four strokes... Watching your video I noticed that your engine had the chain on the right side unlike most japanese motobikes. But cylinder and head look similar to mine. Good luck with your restauration!
Thanks ! Yes yamaha in the early 80's had the sprocket on the opposite side . I have never ridden an IT so looking forward to learning and restoring as I go.
Thanks for watching, biggest thing I can stress is to download a proper repair manual. You can find them for free if you join a YZ450F facebook page and look under the files section.
@@whatshappeningintheshop Thanks! I found the manual, but seeing the drawing is something other than tearing it apart in real life 😀So hopefully your videos will be helpful ☺
i had one of these in 2006 ,barnfind , first ride i broke my ankle on the first corner as i neglected to check the front tyre pressure after the bike sitting for many years ,had it for a few years then ended up selling it to a guy who wanted to restore it ,
If you have the knowledge and it seems you do i would invest in making molds with original parts and perfect doing so and label years model. Possibly make a business plan for yourself dude. Cool channel hope to watch it grow man
Same failure on my 2003 YZ450F oil pump pinion gear broke the crank case casting. I picked up a 2005 case to repair my motor. My 450 turns over. Glad to find your build clips. Could not see any steel frame YZ 4 stroke repairs on RU-vid 3 years ago when I picked my 2003 up.
Great job! I have a 2003 YZ450F here that needs full restoration. Your clips will be very helpful. What’s the graphics kit on yours? Factory stock look hard to find for early models. David Tasmania
Thanks, its a factory FX decal kit I bought from rocky mountain atv/mc . I wasn't crazy about the FX logo but like you say there isn't anybody making a true OEM replicas. When you put gas in the tank they want to bubble even with the slits in the film. Thanks for watching !
I think it would have a shine just the same but white tanks tend to turn yellow from the gas so not sure it would ever quite have the same color as brand new.
Hey man I have a question, does it matter what spacer collar goes on what side of the front wheel? I changed the front tube and I was looking at the bike and noticed the wheel sits a little more closer to the right fork
@@whatshappeningintheshop thank you I found the location of it in one of your videos. I wanted to see where it was located. My bike leaks a bit from the oil hose on the right side underneath the clutch cover and from the drain bolt, I’m gonna check it again when I get home and drain the oil
The needle was in the standard position for sea level , I'm at 3500 feet so I dropped the needle position one notch so hopefully leaning it out will help, haven't had a chance to try it yet. Thanks for watching.
Dumb ass....Yeah he made it look pretty but now it's dangerous to ride because when you sand on that aluminum it's only so thick the thinner it gets the easier it is to break yeah you made it look pretty but now it's dangerous
I have a 2003 yz450 same as yours, my engine seized up the other day hopefully it’s nothing no too bad. Been watching your videos to give me an idea of what I’m getting into
Thanks for watching. If you are going to repair it yourself I cant stress enough to download a factory repair manual. I found my manual in the files section of a YZ450F facebook group I joined. Good luck on the repair.
Hi, I've been following your restoration. can you help me? I bought a qr50 for my son but it doesn't have a CDI, do you know of one? or a compatible one?
You can try looking on Ebay or the Honda NC 50 moped had a very similar engine . Not sure if one of those will work but again I would look on Ebay. Good luck on the search.
Lots of videos on youtube about polishing plastic, I dont pretend to know every trick but I'm happy if it helps you to get your tank looking new again. Thanks for watching !
A visual inspection for cracks or missing teeth, and I spun them and confirm it shifted. I didn't disassemble them from the shaft if that is what you are asking.
Loving these vids mate, I’m just checking out the QR50 I have, I don’t have a VIN tag plate I just have a VIN stamped into the head. What info does your plate have on? Just curious Cheers, mines just a straight VIN stamp nothing else
Thanks for the kind words. Its a typical data plate for a Honda, Has the year and the serial number. Lots of parts for these in Australia on Ebay. Good luck on the project !
I need to get the YZ450F running and up for sale first but work has me pinned right now . Hopefully I will get a video out when I get it running and take it for a ride in a month or so. I generally only have time to build a bike in the winter then get busy with work as soon a spring comes.
@@Thepianobird Thanks, I'm sure there will be a new project coming along, no idea what make or model but thats half the fun, looking for the right bike to rescue. Thanks for watching.
Ive got one i have to restore also, it has almost nothing in the way of electrics and hoses... i dont understand the oil pump, are you able to give more info on it at all? How to pull down and clean, or something alike 😅😅 i understand how old this mini series is.
Hi, i would start by downloading these two manuals from facebook facebook.com/groups/HondaQR50/permalink/697112364423294 facebook.com/groups/HondaQR50/permalink/697111994423331 That is the repair manual and owners manual. The oil pump works with the throttle, it is oil injection similar to a snowmobile. You will need an electrical harness so if yours is missing look on ebay or buy a parts bike. Ebay has quite a few parts for them . Good luck with the project.
@@whatshappeningintheshop ive built a rudimentary harness, im having trouble with absolutely no fuel hitting the chamber, i havent got theee...front lefthand brake sensor a rear brake cable or choke.... it should be startable still yes?
@@charlesoneil6224 you have to pull in the left hand brake to get spark so if you dont have a switch figure out if its supposed to be a closed circuit , if so tie those wires together. Yes you need to choke a cold engine.
$5800 Canadian or $ 4500 US dollars. Might be a little cheaper if I lived in the US because they get more free shipping options and dont have to pay duty. Thanks for watching.
Where were you able to find the yz450f sticker that goes on the rear fender? I’ve looked everywhere for a 2000 yz125 sticker like that and have had no luck.
