100% this is my go to combo too. The first camera I ever owned was the G. I bought it myself at 10 years old! Now they’re $20. A used 40mm pancake make it a cheap and cheerful combo PERFECT for travel. Light weight, no need for a lens cap, but two have a spare.
Hello! The question is whether the L35 AF2 is reliable or not... By reliable I mean if it is durable or if it breaks easily, constantly or if it is difficult to repair and dies. What's your opinion about it? Thank you!!
Unfortunately I really don’t think anyone could reasonably recommend any vintage camera as being “reliable”. They all have massive potential to brick at any moment and it’s just something that comes with the territory of shooting film.
I know the feeling you can have for a Canon EOS Rebel. I think some of my favorite photos were taken with an EOS Rebel XS and the 35-80mm zoom, which I now sold to a friend who wanted to give it to his partner. I am currently testing the Eos Elan 7, but it is indeed larger and heavier than any EOS Rebel. Perfect little cameras!

The mop head theme is a great insight into our bonkers brains. I've been shooting ladders for years because I kept seeing them not living up to their potentials. Laying in yards. Open in a field reach nothing. . . 6 years of doing this. I feel like an insane person and then I see something like this and know that I'm not alone :)

new to your channel ,great video, great photos , i use the Canon EOS 650 ( very cheap to buy ) when i am shooting film ,and i like the easy way it loads the film, which is usually Fujicolor 200

Fuji aficionados debate about the Xtrans 1&2 sensors as to which one is better. I have the XE1 and enjoy it. I just purchased the XE2 and look forward to taking it out. I wonder if the image quality between the two bodies will be the same or similar. I love the kit 18-55 lens. I think it is a little too big for the XE bodies. Maybe a XC zoom might be a better choice. Right now I have the 27mm pancake on the XE2. A very nice pairing. I’m sure the thumb rest is a good idea. The camera is small. Overall a good thing. Thumb rests make holding the camera more comfortable and confident. I try to use one on all my bodies. Mask On Nurse Marty (Ret)

Hi Lucy! I inherited my father's Rebel G with a kit zoom lens but have yet to use it. It fired up with new batteries so I'm sure it would work. My father was meticulous with his stuff. I was never able to buy your framed print at Relics. I left multiple messages and visited the store but they basically ghosted me. They turned out to be rather flaky and not surprisingly, got into some financial difficulties as per their posts asking for donations to keep the store open. I gave up on them. I see Ali now and again at photo walks. I was supposed to spend some time in Brisbane/Gold Coast late last year and I might have looked you and Lux up to say hello but the tour company changed the itinerary on us last minute so a no go on that trip. I love those cheap plastic SLRs. I've got EOS 300 and EOS 50 for free. I managed to find EF 40mm for about 100 USD. EOS300 + 40mm is great setup for travelling.
Pretty much any Rebel with the pancake lens makes for a nice light package that takes great shots. Good to see you advocating for, as you call it, "cheap and cheerful" equipment.

good to hear this is an "effect" and style you are going for!, my other comment was just as a person with Autism, my eyes are extra sensitive to glare, so that flash from the glasses caught me off guard a bit, but the backlit light is great, as long as you don't silhouette too much, Unless that is a deliberate choice, of course, I shoot architecture, seascapes, cars, boats so this issue is a constant one for my work, to use the sun/clouds but not to glare and wash out the image especially by a wrong asa choice, or indifference to the prevailing light; but I'm getting better at it.
My Rebel 2000 was my intro to film. Was shooting a 5D3 professionally and was amazing to get to get into a whole new format with all my existing glass for $25.
don't fret Lucy, Kodak Gold is GOOD, I've just shot some with a Sinar F2 monorail in a sinar Zoom 120 back (in 6x12 format, aka 6 shots/roll) using 90 mm f5.6 and 65mm f5.6 Fujinon SWD glass, had just the developed negs, and scanned by myself (Epson V850 at my local Library, Basic software, NOT Vue scan or NLP, but importantly at 600 DPI 24 bit resolution) turned out GREAT, a good 'staple' film for us, not too contrasty, or as 'whacky' as some of the Lomography or instax films, with the coffee/metropolis, etc tints. One tip, use lens hoods, esp. when the sun is out, and you won't go too far wrong; This was my first film with LF, and it worked!!! hooray!!!, fyi this is my 4th roll of 120 had some glare issues with the other 3.
great video, but you are backlit BAD, tell your videographer to use an ND or polariser! your face, glasses are flared bad, enough to distract us. Another tip, if it's backlit, Move the camera 180 degrees, to have the sun at HIS back, Not yours 🙂
@@LucyLumen good on you then, if that's a style, fine, you do nice videos, and always enjoy your colour scheme, very 70's inspired. what was meant by the comment was just Me, as an ASD found it a bit much, the highlights where overblown (to MY eyes), by 1/3-1stop, esp. when shining in the glasses, but if that is an 'effect' you are going for, just give us a heads up first, so people with sensitive eyes know what's coming, and can get 'our' sunglasses on, to enjoy it 🙂

Recently got back from a trip to the USA, left my expensive cameras at home and took nothing but an EOS300V / Rebel Ti and a 40mm pancake. Great travel combo, very light weight, compact, and easy to carry. Being 'auto-everything' meant that I was spending more time 'in the moment'.

That was my first camera - dug out of my dad's wardrobe and loaded with ultramax, I unfortunately became a film photographer and as a teenager my wallet has not recovered since. My complaint of the camera is in Av, pressing the flash button doesn't cause the shutter speed to compensate - best stick to the automatic modes with flash to avoid a slow shutter and overexposure. On a positive note, great video and shots, here in the UK there's always at least one pesky cloud!

The EF 40mm f2.8 is a brilliant lens and those EOS 300/Rebel/KISS series bodies have everything you need. Any camera built from 1980s onwards should meter fine.
Tough question! No film cameras, My Nikon ZF with the Voigtlander 40mm 1.2. Maybe instead the OM5 with the 17mm 1.2 (equivalent 35mm). These two are in my bag always for when my subjects aren't super active, i can use manual focus with 40mm. And the 17mm when i need autofocus. I cant pick just one😂
I know it’s hard to choose one and even when you do you end up changing your mind! My partner is listing after a Nikon ZF actually but I’m not super interested in it…maybe I just need convincing haha
I have an Eos GII or something that I bought 15 years ago for $50 and it’s still selling for $50. I’ve def gotten my money’s worth out of it. I still use it sometimes today
Yes they are dirt cheap and so capable! They just aren’t cool or hyped or anything and people are quite vain and status obsessed with cameras sometimes so I’m not sure they will ever go up in value…but hey good for those of us who like them! Thanks for watching

Got one of these a few years ago for $20 and love it. It’s *so* lightweight. It’s a little slow to react in auto mode, but I highly recommend it to anyone with any modern canon glass. The older lenses a more a little slower, but this works with any ef lens. It’s great with the 50 or 35 especially. Pick one up when you see it! You can cover the annoying auto focus light with gaffer tape, and clean up any gummy rubber with isopropyl alcohol.

Great photos. The Canon rebel range with the 40mm pancake lens is magnificent, though the 50mm f1.8 STM is a very good fit as well. I mostly shoot digital these days, so I don't get to use my Rebel as much anymore - there simply aren't any good lab options in my region, and I don't feel comfortable developing film myself. I use a similar digital setup instead and make that work - mostly shooting aperture priority or fully manual, because I'm a bit of a control freak 😇 Or that is, I used to photograph - work is getting more and more demanding, so there is no energy - even if I see a subject, I would take the time out to photograph last year, now I just see it, but I don't stop and pull out the camera. Hopefully things will change eventually, but right now I'm just looking forward to three weeks of vacation mostly relaxing...
We actually have that 50mm on the EOS 7 and I used it and really liked it so I’m glad you reminded me of that! Thats a shame about labs in your area. I send mine interstate as I don’t feel there are any locally that are as good. @@LucyLumen I'll try, but I need to spend the vacation going through my belongings getting rid of clutter etc. I have started looking for a new place to live, so it makes sense to try and get things ready for the day, I have to actually start packing - even if it could be a couple of years with how the waiting lists are looking.
My go to everyday lens is a 27mm 2.8 pancake on crop (40mm equivalent), and it's probably my favourite all around focal length... Still wide enough but with a bit more compression than 35mm. I'm currently working thru some rolls of expired Fuji Superia 400 and Lomo Colour 400 (which is just Kodak Ultramax, but I got it for cheaper lol). I really like both depending on the subject or conditions, as Fuji is cooler/greener and Lomo more neutral, compared to Gold. Anyways, you took some amazing photos as always! And the purple trackie is awesome haha

@@LucyLumen Yeah it's sad what happened with Fuji film... and while the 'new' 400 is easy to get now where I live, it's just Kodak Ultramax. And 200 is just Gold. Which is okay cause they're still both great films, but hopefully one day Fuji will start making their own film again, cause with Superia gone I will miss those Fuji colours! Anyways, hope you have an awesome weekend as well!
