Welcome to Home Harbour Here you will find some interesting ideas for your ship building, some tips, weathering ideas, useful handmade tools and more awesome stuff))
My idea to give to your model something diferente, something unique)) part of you. Making your model not just a copy of instruction, adding something that you enjoy and will be pleased to look at in the future ))
So welcome everybody and free to write in comments section your ideas, questions or you just want to chat ))
Certainly looks a very well detailed and lovely quality model. Looking forward to your interpretation and build of it…….looking forward to the sequence of coppering the hull. Kindest Regards Gary
@@homeharbour6238 I know that you will approach it in the same detailed way as you do your builds and that is what I and many of your followers are looking forward to…….however the step back and re-charge at this point is more important……we’ll still be here when you feel ready to tackle it……👍
Nice kit. I am currently building the OcCre Endurance and am enjoying the experience. I have no complaints about the materials and parts they supply in the kits apart from the ropes which are very hairy and the photo etched stanchions which just don't look right to me. I have swapped them out.
Dave, are you documenting your Endurance build? I too am currently working on the Endurance and documenting the progress on my channel, www.youtube.com/@genojoe3176 I would enjoy some constructive criticism from someone who is currently building it as well.
Take your time and recharge bud, I'm enjoying your builds and I would rather wait and get great educational videos then rushed and you not enjoying building the amazing ships
Hi Roma, we all need time to ourselves at times and I respect your situation. Will still be here when you return to the bench. Wishing you fair winds and following seas.
Hey Roma. Just wanted to say that I really respect that you do a video on this.. And I understand you in doing so.. As you know, I'm in that situation myself because of other reasons, and I'm struggling so much to find inspiration to go back to the bench.. Because I don't want to sit there and make something that I'm not 100% into.. So I will wait until that energy comes back.. So, take your time off and charge your batteries or whatever, and we will be here when you return:) Take care my friend 😊
Nice to see such passion for building models. Very informative film. Wooden ships is new thing for me. Usually I build plastic kits. At the moment busy with cv-6 Enterprise.
At 9:39 the 2nd planking at the rear of the model has a severe bend, how did you glue and more importantly bend the 2nd planking without snapping? Thank you again.
Ok. Got it. When you put "contact" glue on the ship and strip , the strip becomes more flexible, so very slowly you bend it, even if it snaps a bit, not a problem, after sending you will not see a difference
Question, when you put the 2nd planking on the Essex towards the rear, I see it had a pretty sharp bend. How did you fold over the plank without breaking?
Roma, always enlightening and informative. Even if you feel as thought you are repeating yourself in other videos, reminders here and there are always welcome. Thank you!
Hi, Roma. Hope you are well. I have been moving along slowly and carefully with ESSEX. I have a question concerning the installation of the FALSE KEEL parts. You describe using white glue(?) with push-pins to secure the first keel part to the transom. The Occre instruction videos illustrate using white glue to attach all false keel parts. I am concerned about the strength of using white glue to attach the pieces of the false keel. Would you recommend using white glue for all pieces, or would it be better to use super glue, considering that the false keel might experience higher stress and that super glue might provide a stronger bond? Please advise. I’m really enjoying your videos
Thank you very much for your comment and I'm really glad that you like my videos. Hope you enjoy your Essex... For those parts I use only white glue "could give a drop of super glue in some random places" but I prefer the white glue and give it a time to completely dry. If you have more questions, just text me 😉
@@homeharbour6238 Very good, Roma. I’ll follow your recommendation for white glue with a couple random super glue spots mixed in. I will also plan on sending you a photo of my completed hull assembly once it is done which uses some of your ideas (especially of the back gallery). ✌
Great video... You are very brave if this is your first ship. When you said you only use white glue thtas the proper way. You are on the right track. Keep up the good work. It took me 8 months to plank the HMS Victory and that was everyday. 3300 nails!!! Thats per drilling each plank and steaming. So a lot of people don't understand the time it takes to build a wooden ship model.
You are absolutely right. Some people don't understand but this is the beauty of our hobby 😅 Yes, this is my first admiralty model and I hope not the last 😉
I just finished this series and can only say.. GREAT WORK! I am getting back into modeling after about 20 years as I near retirement and I am looking forward to building my first wooden ship. Doing a bunch of research first. Many Videos to watch. Again, Thanks for the hard work in recording all of this.
Roma, I have several comments here: 1. Leaving 1/2 of the hull & (deck?) open for viewing the craftsmanship is awesome! How creative. 2. I totally get the building on the plans for alinement. If I may bold and suggest a sheet of Wax Paper over the plans. It gives excellent protection to the original paper and is especially useful with your typical aliphatic resin. Not so much with CA. This is a standard is balsa R/C plane building. The time will come when the plans will be required again, well with airplanes. 3. YES, you are so correct with your option about the use of CA. My biggest gripe is the sandabilty & your health. Keep it and show us your wonderful work.
Hi Roma 👋 Excellent work 👍 Regarding the Facebook comments, dont mind them.. There will always be people whose only joy in life is to criticize other people and what they do. I'm pretty sure that most of them haven't even done a model like this for themselves. I know comments like that are hard to read, and they sometimes they messes with your head.. But rise above it:) Be proud of what you are doing because you have every right to be proud 😊 Your doing amazing work😊 And if it takes a year to finish, or even two, well, then you have been enjoying that time, and you have something to be proud of😊 Keep up the great work Roma😊 Best regards, Nikki.
Thanks mate. Your comment means a lot. I don't mind the comments. Just wanted to show people different type of modeling. Something that made me get out of my comfort zone but I'm really happy that I did it. I learn a lot about "the structure of a ship" with this kit.
Your doing a great job Roma, Im envious, Im thinking of doing a scratch build next, but after seeing you kit, im thinking I may do one similar as a stepping stone to the scratch build. Your explanations are spot on, don't rush enjoy the build, don't worry what others say , im enjoying the build.
I just received the OCCRE Essex Kit 4/21/2024. I was so very happy to have found your tutorial for the Essex by accident. Right now I'm in the process of building the Kate Cory whaling ship -- expected completion around this time of 2025. By the way, I have always used white glue for my builds also. I recently discovered Gorilla (white) glue -- it's really great stuff.
You are doing a great job with this kit Roma and the explanation is spot on. l use 5 mm glass as a base to make the ribs to ensure a flat surface. The reason for the A and B frames is usually the A side is towards the bow and B is towards the stern, so you always put the frames the right way round. This is going to be an excellent build. Very well done!!!
