2024 - I do not hear much difference between these two pedals. So the circuit is working as designed. Picked up one in pristine condition from Guitar Center for $59. On hold and will pick up in two weeks. Sadly it is missing the label on the bottom as I like to see when and where my gear was made.
Glad i found this decade old vid....and yea... immediately noticed the ross was boosting the amp unlike the mxr. It must have 2 or 3 more db at 12 oclock. Ross is honky too...almost sounds like a tube screamer.
Does anyone have issue where the Tone knob acts very much like a volume knob where lower settings are much quieter (also darker) than full on where the brightness is there but also a very noticeable increase in volume? Seems odd because that's how mine currently works.
It's like a Tubescreamer went back to school and finished its diploma, went to a really good therapist, a dietitian, got a gym membership, quit drinking and smoking, and really sorted its life out. It's in the same programs & classss as the T-Rex Alberta and Way Huge Green Rhino Mk.IV.
Sorry I missed you 13 yrs ago… very good demo. Wonder if the pedal has held up as well as your demo?🤔😊 🤷🏼♂️ God bless you with health and joy. 🎸👨🏼⚕️🎸. 🫶✌️♾️. 🇬🇧🏴🇺🇸
I have one of these but it’s much older. I spent about 6 months stationed in Yokosuka, Japan back in 1980. I was just learning guitar back then and bought a bunch of Amazon pedals cuz they were readily available there and relatively inexpensive; about all a poor young sailor could afford at the time. Anyway, I still have a few of them. An FL-301 flanger, an OD-808 overdrive, and the aforementioned D&S distortion. I have to piece some me of the wiring back together, but I’m hoping I can get it to sound as good as yours does. How old is yours? Like I said, I bought mine in Japan 44 years ago. I had an old Mosrite that my brother gave me as my first guitar back then. I actually still have it although it’s in pieces. Maybe I can get motivated enough to put it back together with a few upgrades. Later that year I also bought a 25/50 Anniversary Les Paul and a Flying V2, both of which I still have.
I got my first chorus pedal ever, two years ago. An Arion. Made in Japan. Then I got two Arion chorus pedals from Sri-Lanka. Then, I bought four Arion flanger pedals! Dated? Yes. Do I have other chorus pedals? Yes. But my first love, is the Arion. Thank you God. I am forever thankful.
Amazing board! What kind of pedal board is this if you don't mind me asking? I've seen them before but can't seem to find out what brand they are. I love the elevated section to allow for more space below! Cheers!
It's definitely worthy of being discontinued. Boss pedals are consistent and fussy. The FZ-3 has alt of caveats to make it sound remotely usable. It doesn't easily transfer from rig to rig or guitar to guitar without a lot of adjustment. The FZ-2 and FZ-1W are far better. I'll even argue that the FZ-5 is more practical.
Currently, how long is the waiting list for this pedal? It seems like I’ve been on the list forever and I’ve not been contacted yet. Since then I’ve gotten a Prince of Tone and several other boost pedals. Please help.
The only difference I hear is the speakers. There is no differences of tone stack. You can easily swap out the speaker and get the same sound. All of you saying that older means better are either scalpers or plain stupid. It is more nuanced than that.
A fvcking men my guy. These losers have been inhaling their own farts so long they actually believe the horseshit they speak lol. The newer Buddha absolutely sounded more dynamic in every way, and this could be down to a myriad of things, not the least of which could be an old broken down speaker vs. a new one or new vs. old tubes. I honestly can't fvcking handle these douchebags anymore talking about things they obviously haven't the first idea about like they're fvcking sound engineers or something.... Give me a fvcking break😂😂😂
What version is this one, (since they all sound different)? In the beginning of the video, I thought he was going to tell us. He says, "this one is..." and then just comments on something else.. If you want these big muffs to really come to life, hit them from the front with a boost or great mild overdrive. And sometimes they sound good followed by an EQ, but not all big muffs sound good with an EQ behind it, but I find that most sound great with a transparent boost or even a dirty boost in front of it. Most all big muffs need a little kick in the ass to get it at its best. Sometimes I wonder if guys in these videos are using a boost and not telling us.
Nice comp. Optical?. The boost is a great idea. Like you, I always have a comp and a boost or two on the board. This could potentially free up a space on that board (if I can find one! Long discontinued) Cool demo. Cheers.
Nice demo. Well done without leaning towards one side or the other. The edge, to my ears, goes to the 1st Fuzz; it has more range of fuzz. FF’s have to be 4o’clock-all out to get the rich fuzz a la Jimi in my experience (sorry to use that word … “experience”😊). All imvho…1st Fuzz wins. Cheers/Slainte & God bless. 🎸👨🏼⚕️
I remember when these were cheap as chips, I've definitely owned a few throughout the years, but with the price they are today? No thanks, there's plenty of other options that are better for the price they're commanding now.
The hand painted pedals are made in the USA where the Vexters are made in Taiwan. That might or might not matter to someone, but it definitely affects the price. They also come with a lifetime warranty. So you are actually getting something tangible for your extra money. I'm not saying that this should make someone choose one over the other, but all the facts should be presented for people to make an informed buying decision. Not simply, "cheaper than the hand painted version".
