Not too many people are aware of it, but there was another woman there that night who was supposed to sing and DID SING in Tribute to Barbara Cooke, but it did not make the telecast. I cannot think of her name but she sang from the musical Candide, which, of course, is one of cooke's most famous roles. If you look closely, you will see her on the stage, and she is wearing white opera-length gloves to the far right. You can also see her as she is walking back to the back of the stage once her performance has finished and then again when they are walking forward with their hands joined with the men. I wish I could think of her name. And i've searched the internet over and over but it seems to have been scrubbed. I know her hair was dark jet black and she was very completed. I think that's really c***** of them. Not to have an acknowledge that she was there, especially considering that she did perform. I remember hearing that her feelings were extremely hurt that she was cut from the line up. Everyone knows that Jessica Simpson took part in the tribute to Dolly.Parton and forgot the words tob -5 and they cut her from the telecast because it was so bad. I would love to know who this young woman was. I heard it after it first happened. The least they could do was give her credit for being there. Also while this this conclusion and rendition of make our garden grow is quite beautiful it is not in my opinion the best performance To ever appear at the kennedy center honors. When steven spielberg was honored it was song for him and the choir was much larger and it was simply outstanding. If you never seen it I highly recommend did you go out and look for it.
Gorgeous! I think I saw in Barbara Cook's eyes both admiration for the performers and bittersweet memories of performing that gorgeous music herself. Watching your career memorialized must be full of mixed emotions.
My gf was telling me about how her grandparents' "song" was Side by Side, and all I could say was "I think that was Richie Rich's parents' song..." Had to come to RU-vid immediately to verify a memory that had been unlocked after almost 30 years. Thanks for posting!
A breathtaking tribute to a spectacularly gifted performer and Broadway survivor Barbara Cook. The weight of talent who appeared on stage was so great that I am surprised that the stage did not collapse!
You only have to watch the expressions on the faces of Sonny Rollins, Neil Diamond, Meryl Streep & Yo-Yo Ma to understand how radiant this tribute was.
Indeed - one of the best of any tributes for a B’way legend - bravo. Some comments as far as who sang what - but I’ll not argue with the well-deserved star power in honor of THE leading lady.
2011 my grandma passed away and I was having a hard time dealing with it and this aired a few months later , and the one thing I held on to was, "sun sun sun sun here it comes"😢😢😢
I don’t know that it will ever be broadly known or remembered that from the age of about 60 to 75 Barbara Cook was probably the best singer of her type in the world. And well into her 80s she was still singing superbly. Her renditions of ‘Ship in a Bottle’ and ‘Buddy’s Eyes’ and many others are just magnificent. Streisand’s talent is probably as great but for me Cook’s instrument has the greater power.
Had to say, am I the only one who really loves Yo- Yo's beautiful face? That serene expression and genuine smile is a real scene stealer , not to mention hearts.
FREAKING LOVED THE VAULT PASSCODE; IMAGINED IF I HAD THIS KIND OF VAULT, I WOULD USED 'BABY ONE MORE TIME' SONG AND ITS VOCAL AS MY PASSCODE!!😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩 BY THE WAY, VAN DOUGH SARCASTICALLY THANKED THEM SOUNDS LIKED HE WAS SAYING, "YOU'VE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME!!" REGARDING THE VAULT PASSCODE.😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I would loved to have seen them sing live together. I’ve seen Christine Ebersole perform….DOZENS of times over the years in Broadway shows and her cabaret show at The Carlyle and Birdland in NYC. It’s shocking to me that she isn’t more famous but she’s conquered Broadway, that’s for sure. I can’t think of one Broadway award she didn’t receive for her performance in Grey Gardens. Off the charts talent. She has several albums, I highly suggest checking them out.
