The clan is not from Brittany. My mother was an English Elliott and her family are in Surrey in the 1430s under the spelling Elyot, so that is long before the Ellots of the Borders acquired he i in about 1635. I have a chunk of Breton DNA myself.
Brother of sweyn! Son of Sweyn, all my modern day Swanson’s who are tied to clan Gunn should know these variations of the surname. Swanson’s are sourced in some books as being direct descendants of the ultimate Viking, and have DNA tracing back to Norway thousands of years ago. It wasn’t until the 1100-1300s that Swanson’s made their way to Scotland, and it wasn’t until the 1900s where my branch of the family migrated from Scotland. The Swanson’s did NOT play a large role in clan Gunn history, apart from the formative years. It wasn’t until the 1700s that our names would once again return to clan Gunns registry.
I'm actually a descendant of both the Watson and Wallace clan two of my ancestors around the 1500 I believe the wife was a Wallace and the husband was a Watson
My grandmother was a Napier, our line arrived in Jamestown in the 1650’s. They eventually settled in SW/VA and SE/KY along with many more of my Scottish ancestors who continue to live there.
I am a Lyon, but of Irish Descent. From wat I have read, the Lyon family descended from a French Knight and his family spread through England, Ireland and Scotland.
Thank you for sharing & storytelling of the de Comyn/Cummings. Our Grand-mother was a Comyn, but also of the Bruce, Douglas, Campbell, Gordon-Seton, etc clans as our tree of Great-Grands reflect. Really enjoy learning about our ancestral Scottish and British history as Americans.

Im a Monteith here in America tracing my ancestry as best as possible through my great grandfathers certification of the 33rd degree of Scottish Freemasonry. (John D Monteith, born April 2nd, 1902), I vaguely recall a story from my dad when younger asking about his family history and he was really proud of it. I dont remember much of that concersation but do remember our family was involved with the railroad development during industrial American development. Will probably pass the certificate off to my brother to keep it in the family. God blessed me we with all daughters lol.
Such nonsense. The tartans worn in these pictures were only registered in the 1820's when Queen Victoria and Prince Alfred bought Balmoral Castle and decorated it with plaid. Always remember that the sins of the father shall be visited on 7 generations to come ...so i think everyone is safely outa the woods bye now ❤
