It's close between Spintech and Flowmaster, but I give it to Spintech. I may have tried the 3000 series for a little more of a hushed tone, but certainly not a deal-breaker. Flowmaster always has a place in my heart from all of the fox body's I had back in the day.
You should make a cold start video some time. I could listen to this set up all day. Sounds so good. This is what I'm going to run on my Cobra purely because of this video.
This is one of the best looking terminators out there. The color black is made for these cars. Different exhaust outside of the usual suspects. Looks like an absolute blast to cruise in one of these. Thanks for the videos!
Thanks for the high praise! You hit the nail on the head- I wanted to try a different exhaust setup that I thought I'd enjoy and post for others to hear given there's only 1 or 2 videos of Cobra's with Spintech mufflers (not many with Flowmasters either). It's definitely a fun car and one that I wanted since the day I saw it.
Have you run Bassani? I’ve had Bassani on my car since the beginning, like spin tech, videos for Bassani are hard to come by. I’ve considered Flowmaster based on your videos and having grown up in the 80s and 90s. But I can’t say there is a big enough sound difference to justify the cost.
I have not run Bassani, but will not rule it out if I come across a good used set. My Flowmasters were used when I got them, and I lucked out on price as the guy was moving and getting rid of all of his spare parts.
Really pulling at my heartstrings here 😢 Miss my 03 so much. I owned a 900 wheel 2020 GT 500 for three years, but my heart keeps going back to the Terminator. Got to find a low mile SB or DSG soon…
I'm with you. Your `20 sounds like it was a beast! I've never given any serious thought in getting rid of the car because I was OBSESSED in getting one way back when. Good luck in your search. They're out there, but getting harder to find and market pricing tends to reflect that...
Nah bro you sold me, i was goin to buy slp for my gt but now imma buy spintech for sure…best sounding cobra I heard. And I watch cobra content daily 💯💯💯
Definitely louder than stingers, but not as loud as ATAK's in my humble estimate. I like the Borla sound as much as any Cobra fan, but this is just a bit more 'raw' sounding and something different from the norm that I wanted to try.
How you liking this setup? Just built my motor this past year with Todd warren custom cams. Currently running ARH headers and borla stingers…the stingers sound great driving around but was disappointed how they sounded at idle with the cams. They seem to muffle down the chop a lot. I’m really not a fan of ataks but was thinking about trying this setup after seeing your video to try and open up that idle a bit
I like the set-up. I enjoy the sound a lot, but it is on the louder side and gathers quite a bit of attention which I wasn't seeking, but is part of the deal I guess. I think you'll be pleased with the idle sound with your current set-up. I'm not trying to plug my other vids, but you can tell a big difference in idle sound between Flowmaster to Magnaflow to Spintech.
Don't kno exhaust sound better than Flowmaster I love that original og mustang growl thoses others are just loud and annoying has no tone but this one is perfect
Thanks! Agree with your comment surrounding Spintech. I've always liked the sound in pushrod Mustangs, so I thought I'd give a shot since I didn't see many Terminators with this set-up.
Much louder than the Flowmasters. Probably quieter than Borla ATAK's and maybe SLP Loudmouth, but it'd be close in my estimation. If I was smart, I would've measured decibels for each, but I'm not and I didn't. It would've also been interesting to compare decimal levels pre & post cams, but I didn't do any of that. 🤷♂
Nice. I have a mod swapped fox that’s 3 inch kooks to 2.5 inch flow master to 2.25 inch tips. Trying to do 3 inch dumps but not be dumb loud. Sounds awesome tho.
I can speak to that. I initially tried these as dumps just to hear it. It was VERY loud to the point of nearly sounding like open headers. I think stock cams may be better with these 6000 series dumped and 2V -vs- 4V would make a difference as well. In my very humble recommendation and if you have cams, I'd say dump your Flowmaster's, or consider the Spintech 3000 series. My understanding is that 3000's are closer to Flowmaster American Thunder, but a bit louder and a little more 'raw' sounding). I never fully appreciated how much tailpipes can quiet things down until doing that.
These are definitely the 6000's. I can't imagine the 9000's! These are significantly louder than the Magnaflow catback I had on there. I'm typically not a loud exhaust guy the older I get, but I do like these for the most part.
Thanks. They're not quiet by any means! I don't know how long I'll keep them on, but I'm happy with them for the most part. There aren't many videos (that I can find) with Spintech's on these cars, so I thought I'd give them a try and share for others to hear.
Total cost on my cams to install…$ 3,600 ..cams…titanium retainer and spring kit..ARP head stud kit..head gaskets..black wrinkle on valve covers…3 hrs of tuning..coolant..oil…etc…$$$…😀
I love the car. My dad recently retired form his auto collision business a few years ago and at one point he worked on this model of mustang, same color and wheels. It may have had flowmasters but I absolutely loved it and always wanted one from that day. Hope you post more videos.
Thanks for the kind words. She's a keeper for me for sure! I'm happy to post more and open to video suggestions or whatever anybody would like to see (in storage now, but will be back out in spring)
@No Average Joe That's what I thought. I see a lot of comments in other videos that say chambered mufflers kill power, whereas straight through mufflers help power, and these are people with NA bolt-on cars with only 300-400 hp.
Thanks! Driveability is really good. There is some shudder at low RPM take-off, but it's seriously minimal. I don't run A/C much or I'm not in it when I do, but no issues in that case.
