Journal making is a passion of mine. It is a culmination of all of the crafts I have done my whole life. I could spend my whole day in my studio making things. The name Friendly Quail comes from my son whom we lost to cancer in 2013. I named my channel in his honor. Before I retired I was a teacher. Making tutorials is my way of continuing my calling. I taught every grade from 3rd through 12th, teaching multiple subjects. My favorite age was middle school, 7th and 8th grades. My husband says that age is why duct tape was invented. I loved it- they made me laugh every day. It didn't hurt that I still laugh at fart jokes. Hopefully I'll do some craft with me videos where I can ramble- i have lots of stories to tell. Thank you for coming to my channel!
This will be a lovely journal Carol, I am sure! Love your finds as well. I spotted some Swedish names on the photos. The princess is Victoria von Baden, later Queen Victoria of Sweden I think.
Love this! I’ve see lots of paper clip ideas but none have ever appealed to me like this one! I’ll try this today! Also….this corner chomper looks like a good one! Where did you get it? And… gonna try your coffee dyed mat photo paper! Thank you!
The envelopes are called First Day Covers. Gosh, I have never heard of that business. Sure wish I had known as we drove down to Sarasota on Saturday to eat at Yoder's Amish Village restaurant. Is the place reasonable for those types of items?
There are 2 Scavengers Marketplaces, one in Sarasota, and one in Palmetto, just north of Bradenton. They both have different vendors. I like both of them. Some vendors have more reasonable prices than others, just like everywhere, I guess.
Spiritual strongholds are broken through praise. I played praise music to break down the walls [ of my mind] of Jericho. God bypasses the mind and enters directly into the soul ❤. Last week it was broken. 1 yr of GOD THERAPY. It is possible. Also, biology proves that every neg thought creates a physical presence in the brain, and it can be removed in 21 days😊 by ➡️ speaking the opposite truth to the deceptive thougt. This is so wonderful, I feel blessed to be able to share this information with you❤❤. It is written: Christ was tempted by neg data, the scripture was twisted, BUT Christ SPOKE THE TRUTH correcting the lie➡️ and the enemy ➡️left❤. I had an injury yrs ago and spent 1 yr speaking scripture to my body building my faith and I was healed over a period of 1 yr. GOD HONORS OUR FAITH. I HOPEyou put praise in and do this for hours every day, and watch The Holy Spirit move in and empower you to dominate it. ❤ AND THAT WILL BE YOUR MINISTRY. RIGHT HERE❤❤❤
This was a fun little project. I made three along with you. Thanks for the clear instructions. I don't have that file punch thingy so I made a template and hand cut some for myself. Turned out cute. Def might invest in the punch tho, for more consistent results.
This is my favorite way to Make hidden paper clips. It turns out so professionally! What brand mat photo paper do you use? I’m Going to make a few of these to give as gifts. Thank you for sharing. I’ve suffered from depression too and take medication. Hugs and kisses!
Thank you for watching! I use Canon matte photo paper. I print on the brighter white side and dye the pieces I cut off. Because of the chemicals on the photo paper side it gets that yummy look when I coffee dye it. Yes, depression can be nasty, but we got this!!!
Have you tried heat embossing in the mini pancake maker? I struggle with the heat gun and I found that using the mini pancake maker with parchment paper for a liner to put these on I got my embellishments heatcembossed perfectly. Lots of videos on RU-vid showing how to do this. 🌞
No, I haven't ever tried that. I don't have one, and I can use the heat gun, but that is good to know for the future, or for other people who struggle with the heat gun. Thank you!
Thanks for sharing this technique! I tried my Perfect Pearls and they were a bust. However, I remembered that I had Ken Oliver Crafts Color Burst powders and they were great! I also tried my Dylusions sprays and they worked good. I just needed to make my brain work to remember color theory so as to not create mud coloring when mixing colors. 🌞
I agree that the Perfect Pearls were a bust. I don't remember when I got them and if they are meant for something totally different. Yay that you pulled out other things from your stash to use. We forget we have things and don't use them. Glad you tried it!
@friendlyquail ... UPDATE-- the Dylusions sprays became very muted over the gesso as they dried, but what reached the edges of the page are very bright & vivid. The Ken Oliver Color Burst colorshave stayed very vivid as they have dried.
Wonderfully inspiring video , Carol. I am excited to try some of these tomorrow (it’s 2:00 a.m.) pain is keeping me awake but you’re like a pain pill young lady! Blessings from an Ohio follower!!
Oh, I hope you can get some relief from pain! I hope you have fun trying these! I'm still awake, too, but it's not pain, but insomnia. I'll close my eyes and wish sleep for both of us, Betty!
Looks like a lot of fun, and they are cute. A silicone mat would make it much easier. The tea bag envelope looks great, good to know the Scotch glue held it. Pretty! Have a great day. 💕
Thank you! Yes, I need to get a silicone mat! I think the process has a lot of potential. I love the Scotch glue stick. I used to use uho, but it didn't hold well.
If you have used that cereal box liner for multiple crafts the stuff that is on it that allows things to not stick may be worn off/worn out. I bought a silicone craft mat for $1.25 at Dollar Tree that I do mine on. It is not too big and it is rolled up and in a blister package. Or if you have a smooth silicone pot holder, that would work. 🌞
@friendlyquail ... You are very welcome! Just getting to the end of your video and I think that I have seen small packages of the colored, glittered glue sticks off & on at Dollar Tree.
I have watched several RU-vidrs do this craft, as well. I am with you in that theirs look way better than mine did/do. I trashed several the other day. I had a lot of fun attempting to make them...crafting should be fun. But my results were horrid, so I just trashed them. I usually punch out circles from papers to use under the hot glue which is cheap enough. Sometimes I attempting to paint the rims with acrylic craft paint, too. Happy Crafting! 🌞
Love this idea. I don't have tea bags but do have clothing pattern tissue paper so will use those. I got lucky at a recent auction and have boxes of large size vintage piano music sheets that am willing to share. Lots of it is larger than 8.5 x 11 and very well used.
That really was a good auction find! Big sheets are great for making envelopes. I've got some big music paper. I think I'll try some pattern tissue over that. Thanks for the idea! More yummy-ness!
Exactly! And even if someone bought a more expensive gift for both Christmas and birthday together, all the little kid knew was he only got one present instead of 2. Also, when Jake got a bike, etc., it was summer and he could be outside with it. That was in Wisconsin. 😀
I live in Florida too. To do more true decoupage I mix 50% Mod Podge and 50% Elmer's Glue-All and a tiny smidgen of water into a resealable container. It doesn't tend to retain any tackiness in our humidity. I learned this from Tanya McGuire's channel. Happy Crafting! 🌞
I didn't sew all of mine. If you decoupage the lining paper down and then decoupage the tea bags or tissue paper onto it, you don't have to sew because the layers are together already. Have fun!
Hi. First time viewer. I haven't seen this process before and i subscribe to Shana's YTC. This works so nice to knock out the bright colors. Fantastic. Ill definitely use this method. TFS and inspiring. 😀
I did one with you while watching this video... I need to get better at it... so a bit of practice is in my future... I appreciate you making this video this is really neat. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you for this video, I found a to of red tickets at thrift store that I want sure how I would use as they were red, never thought of bleaching them so thank you 😊 I can send you some of you'd like some.
I could just picture a big dump truck making those truck backup beeps backing into my driveway, Here comes the red tickets 🎟 from Karen!" LOL I think I have enough, thank you! Glad you liked the video.
I have been watching YT videos by some the the biggest names in junk journaling for years. This was the first time I have seen a process like this using bleach to extract the color. Great work. So glad I found you.
Hi Carol, enjoyed your video. What a great process to grunge up some tickets! They really look aged, would never have guessed they were bright colors in the beginning 🌻
Just watched your walk through of the journal and came back to see how you made this version of belly band and envelope pocket etc. very cool. Thanks. Have a beautiful day!
