?? This is the song the American band Sparks sent to the British / Scottish band Franz Ferdinand which started this collaboration. (Except for 'Piss Off' MANY years earlier.) Franz Ferdinand responded with adding a passning. I assume it's the one Alex Kapranos sings solo. But "the British"?

Who said music with integrity have to be "commercial"? Ridiculous. The reason that Sparks is so HIGHLY respected among musicians is that they create music with their own integrity kept strong and high. Guess why Franz Ferdinand went into this collaboration?? Don't you think that they are grown up, not mature enough to make a decision on what they want to do? Perhaps you too should try to experience things outside of your normal range? It's educational. That exactly what these two bands did. Then they went back to their own respectively worlds, with new knowledge they both learned from eachother or together. I think that you actually should spend some time to watch Edgar Wright's documentary on Sparks.

Sparks started as 'Halfnelson' in late sixties, in Los Angeles, California. They recorded their first album 1971, self named. It didn't sell well, they were adviced to change their name. As 'Sparks' they re-issued the first album as 'Sparks' -72, and released a second, 'A Woofer in a Tweeter's Clothing' the same year. Still no success, so they turned to Europe, particulary England. Ron and Russell, keyboard and vocals, moved there -73, found new crew, had positive attention and in January 1974 they released 'KIMONO MY HOUSE' with the hit 'This Town Ain't Big Enough For The Both Of Us'. A couple more singles were released from that album, which was soon followed by 'Propaganda', out in England in November the same year, and the USA in January -75. (A third album 'Indiscreet' were made in that era, 1976 they moved back home to LA, new crew, 'Big Beat', heavier rock beat, out -76.) Some special points later: 1978 luck and coincidence made their ways to record 'No. 1 In Heaven', produced by the man behind Donna Summer among others, Georgio Moroder. From rock and pop, right into synthesizers and disco. Recorded -78, not out until -79, their label didn't know how to label it... (Listen to 'Dolce Vita', the hit 'Beat The Clock' and 'Tryouts For The Human Race', the lyrics to the latter... 😂😂😂😂 If you don't listen to the words, you'd never realize it, but it's about the challenge sperms have to "be your little daughter or your son". 😂😂😂) 1994, 'Gratuitous Sax and Senseless Violins'. 'When Do I Get to Sing My Way?', 'Hear No Evil, See No Evil, Speak No Evil', 'Now When I Own the BBC', 'The Ghost of Liberace'. 2002, 'Li'l Beethoven', also the name of their own label. The song title 'The Rhythm Thief' tell a second clue, the title of the album the first. This is not built on beat, which is the obvious thing to think of, drums are not highlighted, if I say so. They showed that even if someone stole the rhythm section, the rhythm itself can be maintained. The whole album is built on RHYTHM, listen to the monoton 'Your Call's Very Important, Please Hold', who can't relate to that?? 😣. 'Surburban Homeboy'! Nobody can throw sarcasm with love as Sparks! 2006, 'Hello Young Lovers', packed with good music, near the line of "mainstream", but without risk to fall into it. "Dick Around' should have been a hit, unfortunately the title scared some off. 2008. Which band who are going to release their 21st album will have the idea to do 21 gigs, one album a night, on the row, finishing with the new? Sparks. In chronological order, from the first 'Sparks', ending with the 'Exotic Creatures Of The Deep'. First one entirely album, and other singles and B-sides, followed by an hour of the audience's requested (on their website). A tough schedule to anyone, at that time Ron was just to be 67 and Russell soon 64. Russell had around (I haven't counted) 215 song lyrics to remember... 2009, they were asked to do a radio musical for the Swedish public radio SR. 'The Seduction of Ingmar Bergman' premiered in Stockholm, Sweden, August 14 the same year. 2015 FFS 2017 Hippopotamus, an album that brought them back on the hit list. No. 7 in England. This year, 2020 they will release 'A Steady Drip Drip Drip' the album where of the songs 'One For The Ages', 'I'm Toast', 'Self-effacing' and 'Don't Fuck Up My World' are. Their musical movie 'Annette', staring Adam Driver and Marion Cottilard, directed by Leos Carax, was finished filming in January. A documentary about Sparks by Edgar Wright should be ready soon. These gentlemen were born August 12, 1945 (Ron, keyboard) and October 5, 1948 (Russell, vocals). Wether you like Sparks or not, that deservs a little bit of respect, I think.
