Leonard Cohen compelled me to become an interviewer. How so? He is one of my life-long heroes. And so, in 1985, when I heard that Leonard was co to Ireland to do a gig, I implored a magazine editor to commission me to do an interview, and after I did I felt positively transcendent. So much so, that on the same day I decided, to quote my diary, 'I feel that must go out in search of more of my heroes to talk with.' As such, my career as an interviewer was a quest, of a kind, even if I didn't define it as such, to begin with. Either way, I went on to interview roughly 1,400 world-famous celebrities - not all heroes of mine, I hasten to add - and one, absolutely a childhood hero, actor/singer/poet Richard Harris said to me, in 1993, "That interview you did with Bono was inner sanctum stuff. And that kind of in-depth interviewing is a dying art."

I absolutely adore Ms. June. It’s easy to see why Elvis loved her. She’s a genuine, relatable, fellow Southern firecracker. My favorite part of this interview is hearing her laugh. She is full of spunk and life! Ms. June said no to Elvis. Not enough people would risk losing him for his sake. I’m glad he had someone like June in his life. And I’m glad she had him, if only for a moment. But what a glorious moment theirs was!❤ Ms. June, if you’re reading this, big hugs from Florida.💕

In 1981 I hung out with Jim in Malibu and later when he was living in the woods. He was very resentful of Elvis. Proby was a better singer, technically, not only for his range, but for his range of mimicry. In other words he was more versatile. But when Elvis was not being manipulated away from his essence, he had a special magic that transcends all that. Saying Presley's voice was soft or weak is absurd. But that's PJ Proby. Someone with an absurd amount of talent, an enigma.

Nancy's a bald-faced liar saying Frank was supportive about her nude Playboy layout. No way in the world would Italian Provincial daddy react in any way but shock and disapproval. It is probable he never looked at it, but he certainly heard about it from wife Barbara, who loathed Nancy. If anyone didn't know, the photos included her you-know-what. If she wanted Frank's attention, or to hurt him, this did the trick; she certainly didn't need the money. It was in 1995, and it's no coincidence that Frank's heart condition took a big turn for the worse that year.

@@JoeElvis2009 I love that! That’s what makes you good at your job, responding and adapting to the personality in front of you at the time. I loved what you said in Eartha/Paula about bringing the psychology into an interview. A good interview, for me, is an exchange between the two people and having compassion and empathy for the vulnerabilities in a person when they feel them. Maybe Bob could do with showing a more vulnerable side rather than what he did here - I was flabbergasted 😅

I've been a massive fan of Sinead's since I first bought Lion and the cobra way back in 1987. Sinead had the best voice I've ever heard. Luckily I got to see Sinead live a few times and I can honestly say that she sounded the same live as she does on CD. I have all Sinead's albums and if I had to pick a favourite it would be 'Universal Mother'. My all time favourite album. The album has every emotion, love, anger, strength and gentleness. I read 'Rememberings' in one sitting, couldn't put it down. Thank you for this amazing interview.

This song has such a catchy tune but when I actually read the lyrics it 100% sounds like it does relate to Paula. The lyrics are cruel and mean and especially when life was so difficult for Paula Yates after losing Michael and then finding out who her real father was. I have always admired Bob Geldof in his achievements and the man he is. The song does feel that it is cruel to Paula Yates and she had issues with drugs and alcohol and she was vulnerable. I often wonder whether her children will show publicly just how amazing she was. I think the song shows his anger at Paula and frustration that things didn't have to end they way they did.

Fascinating. Webb tends to be ‘flexible with facts’, too - or maybe he forgets. I love both the Webb-Harris albums and wish the partnership had continued. I still think Harris was the best ever interpreter of Webb’s work (sorry, Glen) - he brings out the pathos and the poetry better than anyone else. I presume the song ‘Beth’ (from My Boy) also dates from this period and from the same inspiration (ie, Harris’ martial breakdown).

@@JoeElvis2009 obviously, it wasn’t ‘written for My Boy’, as Webb and Harris had fallen out by then; but from the clip, the song would seem to date from the period of Harris’ marital travails (plus, it’s copyrighted 1968).

Please show some respect to this enormous unserved audience. 11 million in USA, 12 million in the UK (yeah more), 3 million in Canada. 16 million in India etc etc. And I am one. I can't say I enjoyed the interview with Cillian Murphy because I couldn't understand all of it, there I'd your accent and then Cillian's. I can understand both of you individually if I'm listening really really carefully, but the two of you interacting and talking over each other, that's an impossibility. Hello from Australia Joe Thank you for this wonderful interview 👏 I had surgery this month and have been reduced to sitting in front of the idiot box (which i never do) hoping for a good movie. I watched oppenheimer and was so impressed by Cillians acting and the whole story and until now I never knew who Cillian Murphy was. I am now going thru all his movies starting with discopigs and thoroughly entertained by his movies. Which also lead me down the internet rabbit hole to this interview. And it was fantastic. My husband flies away to work same as Cillian works away and i am convinced he has definitely lived alone. Hes not alone just like my husband but unfortunately has to live alone. (For work) I have a wonderful husband and family just like Yvonne has a wonderful husband and family. I wish them and yourself all the best and all the success life has to offer you. Thanks to Oppenheimer and Cillians acting i have also started to read J Robert Oppenheimers book about his life. Fascinating 😊 thank you kindly both for entertaining this couch potato 😊

Hi there Julie, I had exactly the same experience! I run a bookstore and had the book American Prometheus on my shelves! I went to see the movie and was so impressed by the film and the phenomenal acting of Cillian Murphy, of whom I had never heard, that I googled him and began watching everything he's ever been in, beginning with the mind blowing Disco Pigs! He seems to be the sweetest man who is devoted to his family and I can understand how you can relate to his working situation, and yes he lives alone whenever he's working. How this sweet, charming person transforms himself into the iconic Gangsta Tommy Shelby is just utterly Incredible! Have you watched Anthropoid? No matter if the movie is good or not, he always manages to nail his part! I hope you are completely recovered from your surgery now 😊 I am a retired dancer so I really appreciate the way Cillian can act with few words, and if you are aware of it, he acts with his whole body. This is particularly noticeable in Oppenheimer... It's really interesting to watch his hands..they often contradict what his eyes appear to be saying! It's so nice to know that he hasn't changed much from this interview...his attitude remains the same...he's just lost some of his heavy Irish accent and speaks a little slower 😊

Dee was the only one who ever told the truth although Vernon, Minnie Mae, the maid, Dee, Natalie Wood etc said the incest was true. Its obvious just by the photos. IDC who grew up with him. They werent in that bedroom. Nobody went in his bedroom with any female but the girls said he just wanted to read the Bible. All the starlets who were with him said he was a dud in bed, not a stud. Cybil Shepherd had to teach him basic stuff at 37. There isnt a single acount in all those years of anything complimentary about him in bed. I challenge you to find one. He was bi-sexual. Nick Adams, Marlin Brando, Liberace, etc. are just more proof. Jones is lying too.
