I never get anything with a tip. Even though they said to have fixed the problem of the tip deforming during the flight I still prefer pointing the BTHP than using the ELD
@@philipng6598 i've had mixed results with both. On the 52 grain, the BTHP seems to work better for me. On the 73-75 grain, the ELD match works better for me. also, Hornady is producing a new bullet that has a flattened tip. thanks for watching.
Thanks for the input. I ran two 20 shot groups using both the BTHP and the ELD match bullets in 52 grain, shooting the same charge weight. The BTHP performed better for me. A difference in rifle maybe? ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-fLWTejUZ2CI.htmlsi=0acmKoAWULag0w-4
@garyjohns4711 I believe this is going to require me to run another test with a different powder--or two. 😀 Stay tuned. And thanks for watching. Much appreciated
Are you saying there was a problem with the video itself? That sounds like a system issue. Others including myself have watched the same video with no problem.
@@lemonaid1605 thanks lemonade. I appreciate that. I'll have to find a competition somewhere first though.😀 I appreciate the input as always. Thanks for watching.
@@northstarw0w I have to agree. I have not tried the 77SMK before now, because they have to be loaded longer than magazine length. My Ruger American used AR magazines. But I now have a Tikka T3X which will accommodate a longer round. I will have to give that a try. Thanks for the comment. and thanks for watching.
I have learned after loading sence was about 14 going on 60 and having my dad being a BR shooter that your going to get a flyer once in a while there are so many factors that go into loading that the average loader doesn't even know about for instance my dad's scale cost more then all my loading gear conbine and I load for about 10 different cals anyway my 2 cents about flyers..
@@Lucysdad66 this is true. If you shoot enough there will be flyers. Everyone gets them. The key is to try to minimize them and to be as consistent as possible. Thanks for watching. I hope you will subscribe if you haven't already.
With all due respect. The police officer you talked to has no clue. An AR as a home defense weapon instead of a shotgun? 😂 And why are you using #2 shot instead of 00 Buck?
I promise you don't want to get hit with a #2 shot. Each pellet is .27 diameter, larger than a.223. Google some photos. At the moment a break in occurs you don't know if it's 1 person or 3. My shotgun holds 6 rounds. My AR holds 30. Much better odds if there are multiple perpetrators if using an AR. Thanks for watching!
You zeroed out your calipers with a SMK and measured holes from ELDX and BMBs. It's semantics and the diameter may or may not be different, but I thought it interesting. Also, this is your low accuracy node based on the charge and velocity. Super soft load and really accurate, but most shooters look for their high accuracy node for distance and hunting.
Thanks Sean. Appreciate the comment. The bullet diameters are the same so for measuring groups it makes no difference. You're right. Hunters typically look for higher velocity rounds.
@@littledaddynesbit4193 nice! What weight bullet are you shooting. I've never tried H 322. I probably need to get me some of that. Thanks for watching. I hope you'll sub subscribe if you haven't already. Thanks again.
@@EverydayReloadingandShooting ..Hornady 75 BTHP. It's a faster burner power, which can work well will heavier bullets, surprisingly. They just don't need high chargers.
You seem to use powders that I don't use. I've had good luck with H335. It seems to shoot good in all my 223's. For the heavier bullets , I use it up to 80 grains bullets
Once you have your brass sorted by weight and your rounds are completed what is your method of storage? Also what do you do if you have say 10 rnds at 91.5 and 15 rnds at 93, will you put the rounds into the same mag?
@@pcburner068 hi PC. I don't sort them by weight until I'm ready to reload. Then I load similar weight cases with the same charge weight. I label plastic zip lock baggies and store them until I'm ready to shoot
@@davidpipes777 no you didn't. Sorry, it will be posted out of sequence. Hopefully today or tomorrow. But I really appreciate your watching. Thanks so much.
I would move that corn cob cleaning process away from the water heater if it is a gas water heater which means it has a pilot light and corn cob dust in the air and flame equals an explosion. I worked in a grain mill and have seen how heat and grain dust goes boom! Safety first!
I had read A2200 could be a near substitute for SMP 735. Have you ever used SMP 735? Against my better judgement I bought a box of Fort Scott TUI solid copper 55gr and the only listed data is for SMP 735.
Hi Bryan. I am not familiar with SMP 735 at All. Good luck with the solid copper 55 grain bullets. I’d be curious to know how that goes. Thanks for watching.
Good job Dennis. Great video graphics editing. 50 shots in this test. Do you clean the barrel or let it cool down between strings? Barrel heat dispersion affects all of my testing.
@@davestrohmeyer-saddleupsho8009 thanks Dave. I appreciate it. No, I go straight from one target to the next. The barrel heating up could be what's causing it to trend towards the right at those higher charge weights. I used to watch Johnny's reloading bench back when he was active, and he had some kind of little fan device that he put in his chamber and it blew air down the barrel. I might need to think about something like that. Because yes, it does heat up.
If you use a a microminter seating die makes it so much simpler. Set microminter to max length and then 3 thousands deeper for every three shot groups or two shot groups if the group isn't acceptable. Then when you find what you want just go by micrometer setting instead of measuring over all length.
I have had very good accuracy results with the Hornady 52 BTHP match bullets in five different rifles. I think they are a pretty good for the price. The Sierra 55 game king have proven very accurate for me as well, they would be worth your time to test as well.
@@lemonaid1605 i'm really enjoying shooting these 52 BTHP as well. I have several tests planned comparing powders at 3000 to 3200 ft./s rated velocity. I will test six different powders with this bullet at the charge weights to get me to those velocities and see how those compare. as always, thanks for watching.
As soon as I see windows cleaner I stop watching. It may work for you if your reloads get used right away and gets cleaned again but some of us may have the ammo sit around for some time before shooting. Ammonia in windows cleaner weakens the brass and those ammo would get less safe to use over time
@@garyjohns4711 i've never tried the N133 or the 748 powder. I do have some accurate 2200 though and I will be running a test with that as well. Thanks for watching
My rifle likes the BTHP better of those two for hand loading. But I didn’t realize they have a 75 ELDM with a significantly higher BC. So I’m going to try it. The odd thing is they don’t make ammo with that bullet. I’m guessing the 73 works better in their Superformance load. Why there’s even such a huge BC difference is weird. Seems like the 73 would be odd man out being only slightly better BC than the 75 BTHP. I like having factory set aside for a match in case I get in a bind and I’ll say that 73 Super load is the lowest SD of any factory ammo I’ve ever tried. Would love to know ow what cocktail they use for that!
@@john1349 hi John. The problem with the 75ELDM is the OAL when loaded is 2.39 inches, and you must have a longer magazine for that. It will not fit a standard AR magazine. Thanks for watching. And thanks for the input.
@@john1349 also, I just ran a test this week comparing the 52ELDM with the 52BTHP, and the BTHP outperformed the ELDM. I'll be sharing that video soon.
Thanks Robert. Glad you enjoyed it. I'll be testing some 52 grain BTHP and 52 grain ELD match with this powder tomorrow. Stay tuned. Thanks for watching.
Suggest you watch the videos on the Hornady channel, especially "Your Groups Are Too Small." Most load development protocols are invalid due to insufficient data and the complexity of the rifle/shooter/reloading system. There is too much inherent variability to draw such conclusions. You don't even have real velocity data. For a test to be valid it must be repeatable. I can't shoot the same group twice with the same rifle on the same day and the same ammo. You are on a journey.
I do watch the videos on the Hornady channel. They are excellent. The one entitled your groups are too small is the very reason I started shooting larger groups and measuring with the Hornady 4DOF app. I used to shoot two 5-shot groups when running a test and I would average those. I think I get better results when I shoot larger group sizes and measure with the Hornady app. If you look at some of my other videos you will see that I do sometimes shoot 20 shot groups. I don't yet own a chronograph, but I may at some point. In the meantime the group size tells me whether or not I have a good load. Thanks for watching.
Great job! I always like using this powder. No need to overwork the brass. Great job and when you’re putting a hole in paper, who cares how fast it is going as long as it is consistent. Great job. If I knew how to get a hold of you. I have an extra brand new chronograph in the box. I would donate to your cause. I am a 70 year-old geezer shooter also. Take care.
Thanks Jonny. I appreciate it. I'd love to take you up on that offer. Are you on messenger? Oh, today is my birthday. I just turned 70 as well. Looks like we have something in common. Unless you're shooting competition and shooting 600+ yards there is no need to weigh and trim every time. You said you’ e alreadyshot and prepper them before.
A piece of brass gets longer when it's resized. I measure each one to make sure it's within spec. I appreciate you watching. Thank you. I hope you'll subscribe if you haven't already.
As an editor I often have to collect sources to explain a lot of stuff for writers. It's been twice I found out a video with this title only to see it go private a few years after. Gosh I hope yours stays online; it's the best I've found out yet!
Thanks Robert. It seems to me like the H4350 performs a little bit better, but I need to run a test to compare the two. This did shoot pretty well however, I thought. Thanks for watching.
Good job Dennis. 2,700fps+ is where my accuracy improves. But I don't shoot 10 shot groups, where lower velocities are better as shown in your targets.
Excellent shooting. To compare between load A and load B, only one thing has to change, example, Bullet to Bullet try to keep BTOG the same between both loads with different bullets
Thanks for the input. I have not measured the BTOG, but I do know that the ELD match at 2.80 inches is .020 off of the lands. I should check the Berger also. I’ll definitely keep this in mind. Thanks again. As always, appreciate your watching.
Dennis, too funny that I had terrible results with 223cfe and 68gr bthp bullets and was deflated. Googled it and found you with the same results, at GAGC nonetheless. Same places as my test. Will grab some 73gr eld and 75gr bthp and give em a try. Hope to see you up there. I'm 4 miles out and a member.
Hi Mike. Nice to meet you. I guess it is a small world after all isn't it? I'm usually there on Wednesday mornings just after opening. I hope I can meet you. If you're ever there on a Wednesday morning ask if I happen to be in. I would love to say hello and shake your hand. And I'm glad you found this helpful. Sometimes, it's not the shooter or the rifle. It can be the ammo as we have discovered. Best of success on your reloading journey. If you haven't already subscribed, I hope you will.thanks for watching
Why bother with removing the tip? Just shoot the 75 gr HPBT. I use ELD for 500 & 600 yds. It will hold the X and ten ring, using a WOA upper, w/4.5 Alton scope, sling is leather Ron Brown.
