Ride onboard my F1000 as I race in the fastest amateur Championship in the UK, described by one follower as "Better to watch than F1".
Follow me for the highs and lows of motor racing as I try to learn this fast pace and expensive sport, before I run out of cash or write off my car - or both!
Highlights are on-track battles, daring overtakes and onboards for hot-laps. Lowlights are mechanical issues, crashes and near misses.
Advice and guidance from experienced racers is very welcome! Comments and laughing faces at my misfortune and lack of talent are expected.
With your support, I hope to develop as a racing driver. My F1000 goals are to: 🥉Race podium 🏎️ Podium for the Clubman Trophy 🏆 Win the F1000 Championship in my 3rd full year.
Future plans are to: 🇧🇪 Take my F1000 to Spa or Hungoraring 🇧🇷Race a single-seater at Spa, Interlagos and COTA 💍 Compete in a GT4 race (ideally the Nürburgring 24 hour)
It's kinda funny that the laws of sense go out the window on occasion in uk motorsport. Realistically, these things are way too fast for Cadwell and the track is too narrow. There are far more sensible choices. But do we care? Nah not really lol
@@danellis1253 not allowed to wear a visor cam INSIDE the helmet. But sure you can race send with 20 F1000 cars around a bike track like Cadwell 😂 I’m glad we got to race there, it was quite the experience! But I said something would happen before the weekend, just didn’t think it would be me
@@markholroyde9412 I’ll always hold my hand up for my mistakes! However, this 2nd to 3rd gear issue has plagued me since installing a flat shifter. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. See Brands Race 3
It was a great weekends racing (well the Sunday that i watched was!). Bad luck with the 2 accidents. Expensive weekend indeed. Did the suspension fail from riding the kerb.....think it was on the way out anyhow? Id be interested to know what spares like a front wing and suspension components cost ......Im used to buying parts for a road car as replacements -body parts anyhow. Great video! I didnt know helmet cams were banned in races (FIA dont seem to mind...)
@@Meeshka32 it was the stub axel that snapped, not the suspension? (Unless you’re going to tell me it’s the same thing). It did happen when I hit the curb, but I was taking plenty of curb all morning. You can see it a little wobbly just before. Full front wing is apparently £600. I will do a video soon about the cost of the crash and rebuild. Yes gutting about the visor cam, really stupid rule
Congrats on the results mate, you were quick all weekend, shame about the coolant on track it was car infront of me spraying it everywhere, i had no grip on used tires all weekend, hopefully findsome at Silverstone, see you there!
@@ChrisKeirRacing thanks Chris! New tyres does let you fight for top 10. Will use your onboard to prove the coolant conspiracy haha See you at Silverstone
@@ChapmansCorner you must be gutted about the race 2 result. So close to a podium, it's incredibly tough to get one of those in f1000. I would be having flashbacks in my sleep if it happened to me
@@user-jb3pj5wf9k haha to be honest mate, that was only race weekend number 7 so even to be running in P2 final lap was good. In Club100 karting last year, i had a similar final lap final corner incident with a back marker… I then went on to smash the season with P2. So I’m hoping the incident will serve as a good foundation to learn and improve and deliver at Croft or Donnington. Tasted victory, won’t throw it away so easily next time
A great weekend, with a mixed bag of results. Luckily the positives outlast the negatives :) And compliments to the mechanics... they worked wonders. Great learning experience this weekend! ...and excellent voice-overs
@@willmv4139 thanks very much. All the credit goes to the mechanics who got the car back running not once but twice! Thought my weekend was over the second time, then thanks to them the best result yet P7
@@manicgamingguy6161 it’s an amazing track to watch at! You can see so much, at least half the track from one spot, or the mountain which is always crazy
@@ChapmansCorner that’s a brave move, should be very insightful for those wanting to get into racing though. I owned a radical a few years back and raced that a couple of times, the cost of bending that was always at the front of my mind and affected my commitment.
@@nickb997.1 awesome, love watching Radicals. Its always back of my mind too, I could probably show 5 race moments when I back out due to cost rather than being scared / not confident I could make it stick
Great video. It seems like you're improving race by race (despite the crashes!). One thing I'm wondering about - there seems to be more sliding about in these cars than any other wings and slicks formula I've seen. Is that down to the cross-ply tyres?
@@robertmerkel8247 I think so, with more seat time! Will keep pushing to see where I end up, I’m hoping clubman podium this season. I asked my teammate who’s more qualified to answer this, and confirmed my suspicions- I’d say it’s down to the fact these cars don’t have a lot of aero, also the cars are very soft so they break away more than other formula cars that are fully carbon and have very stiff suspension
unlucky with the crash, hothatch driver, first time there in a saxo i dropped a wheel the same as you did and sucked me in! cool onboard and great racing!
Racing is an expensive sport indeed. However, you will have many happy memories to look back on when you are unable to race in the future. Enjoy yourself and just keep going to the next race!
I was at Sundays meeting of 750mc and watched the F1000 with much interest after 20 years of racing (Hot Hatch with the 750). I must admit i cant remember how you fared! Looking forward to seeing the video. Cadwell is a great little track! I may talk myself into trying F1000.
@@Meeshka32 I was running P2 until the final lap when I went into the wall final turn final lap 😅 then the second race on Sunday I managed P7! My best weekend so far. The crash was an experience. You should defo join us! If you test an F1000 you’ll get hooked. Can’t beat the thrill of being flat through T1 at 132 at Cadwell or flat through Island Bend (for example) at Oulton
@@ChapmansCorner well i have been flat up the hill (albeit in 4th) but with another hot hatch nose on into my side door. The dent was still there when i sold the car.! Love Cadwell though its scary as F in the wet if you are paying your own repair bills. Got to wait and see how the $$$ look after i finally buy a new house this year. But it does look great value and fun. Whats the sequential box like for shifting? I watched video from Nixon Racing in the US in his F1000 (US regs look a bit more nuts) and he made it look smooth...and quick...all the way down the box in like 1.5 secs under breaking.
@@Meeshka32 sounds awesome mate! Yeah I can imagine, I drove Cadwell in the wet testing in May but have never raced in the wet. Sequential is okay, I struggle with 2nd > 3rd sometimes since installing the flat shifter. Its a shame we don’t have paddle shifting, would be awesome
As a fellow and very amateur racer, I have to say I enjoy your videos. I race with the 750 MC, have seen you guys out on track. Very quick cars. I race 750 formula, similar cornering speed but way different top line speed. Great content and nice to see. Keep it up buddy 👍if you are interested in us slower guys, search for Andy kemp 750 formula. Good analysis of your footage, it’s tough in a race car , way more than people realise. Enjoyed the content, subscribed, and I love the honest appraisal of both club racing and your own performance. Keep it up 👍
@@squarterman8807 lol good one! To be competitive, they last one race weekend (Quali and Races only, not testing). In my first season, I never had new tyres, always ran on old. A set could last 3 weekends but you’ll struggle on them! New set is 1 second gain at the front
@ChapmansCorner because I'm 16 at the moment gonna start karting this month and I have been looking for open wheel formula raceing (we have the money) but I'd be starting alot later compared to the other drivers can I have the championship name?
@@joshuanewland5309 why did you say older? You’re very young, half my age? I would do a few years of karting before attempting F1000 or F3, there is a lot to learn and these are extremely quick. Karting will teach you the car and racing fundamentals. This series is MonoPosto
@ChapmansCorner I said I'm older because I see all the 15 year old f4 drivers and by the time I'm competitive enough I'd be a adult racing against 15y olds but thanks for the help you got a new follower and you might see me at the club 100 ;)
@@joshuanewland5309 haha yeah tell me about it mate! I’m racing against 17 year olds at 32, and I only started racing last year. I think GB4 and F4 are developmental series so very different to my F1000 championship and MonoPosto which is more for fun. Good luck, see you around
@@ChapmansCorner I ran in Colorado mainly, life got back at me, but I'm super glad I got to do it, I loved racing Evos etc. but open wheel full aero cars are what mankind should strive towards.
@@preecelightnin5795 it was close! My team manager thought I clipped the wall, said he pulled his head out of the gap. Bit dramatic watching back, I wasn’t as close as Hamilton was vs Max 2021 but still, very hectic restart for amateurs
Enjoyed that! Heres's the race from the other end of the grid, if of interest (sorry about the quality). ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-xSmu2r05iwU.htmlsi=8O_1lc7NM3rzaAJ2
The black band that appears frequently in the centre of the left front and sometimes on the right front suggests SLIGHTLY lower front trye pressures might be worth trying.
My dream ride would be a single cylinder 250cc kart, preferably on those DEA engines, they are able to lap this track at low 30s with roughly 70-HP and I'm sure they are cheaper to buy and run still. A lot of people prefer cars but having raced short-circuit karts for many years, if I could stay with a kart whilst migrating to the big circuits I'd very much prefer that feel. Unfortunately it's only in the UK that the single cylinder 250cc class blossoms, everyone else is about the twins and the big HPs and top speeds, but that is for the select few with the big pockets and I doubt they would be more fun anyway, certainly less reliable.
