Maybe at this point in tear down You should put a modern frame like a Crown Vic or a mustang ll suspension and corvette style rear. give the old boat a modern twist. Keep up the good work and especially the hummer your putting in. Can't wait to see it finished.

I think the ground busbar might be because of the fiberglass body (it won't conduct to the frame), but you'd probably want to connect to the frame anyway. ETA: Made this comment before I finished the video. Called it. 😁

When this kit was new 6 volt was common, when the owner upgraded to the newer V6 he used alot of the doner car wiring. The slideing switch is typical GM column mounted igniton.

Aren't you glad you did a test drive, before you found out what a firey death trap that was. It's surprising that someone didn't get killed driving that, with all the spit and bubblegum that was holding it together. But I know that you are going to rebuild it in the proper fashion with steel and welding.

i think you could update this car really well. replace the wiper motor to a 12v one, just easier. but replace the redundant gauges and fit the diff temp and trans temp like the trucks. also i think that push rod thing may be a window washer switch that also runs the wipers, the older ones were like this. maybe you could look into doing an electric power steering. you can buy kits that are made for old cars, but see if people use ones you can get from a wrecker. just make an adapter to fit the old steering wheel bacc on.

You've presented SO much automotive engineering in this one video...without getting utterly lost! Seriously, dude... I would have been sitting there holding parts and idly wondering... "What were they thinking when they made THIS? How come they used THAT?" I would've taken DECADES to do what you did here! However...with your aviation and automotive backgrounds...you are THE man for the job to get this machine running and driving better than could be imagined back in the day. This vehicle is a marvel. The Glasspar company and its products were detailed in what I call my "Old Guy Magazines" such as Hemmings and stuff like that. To see one dissected in this way is a revelation. You get to see what these optimistic, post-WWII veterans wanted in their own creations back home. You showed us how these folks wanted their new steeds to function and operate. It's easy to imagine some guy who was trapped with a few other guys in a South Pacific trying to keep jeeps, trucks, bulldozers, tanks and aircraft functioning in that whole wartime environment. You can see all the engineering from automotive and aviation worlds coalesce into THIS creation. With THOSE wheels on it and without its body, this creation ALREADY looks like those truck/tank/Blastoline machines you see in Jay Leno's videos. Without visual reference for scale, I would've thought this was a stripped down industrial truck! Car...it's passenger car-sized. What an awesome machine! I hope you continue to have a lot of fun with this! We certainly are. Much aloha to you and your family!
@rookie__pilot
@rookie__pilot 15 часов назад

Angel, this car has all kinds of history- you spoke about the Volvo overflow bottle; bet the fan on the front of the radiator wasn't OEM too. It was a kit, and in the history of all home built cars, kit cars are the most notoriously never finished, always awaiting the next version. Simplifying that wiring set up should do a lot of maintenance good; the plywood firewall with a metal overlay was common light aircraft practice in the ''50s. I'd at the least, preserve all the changed out parts even if you build and all metal firewall. While you have most of the weight and stuff off you might look into how much resistance to twisting that frame has before you paint it and all. What an unending basket of "while you are in there" you have got into! Like the new camera guy, hope he works out! PS; I had a thought; that firewall block for the OE wiring to pass through the firewall would be a great piece to have on hand, but it's like hasn't much been made for a few decades; maybe get it scanned and turned into a 3d model code? I have had a few projects where an inexpensive bulkhead fitting would help; AN fittings for this are great, but also not cheap at all.
@rookie__pilot
@rookie__pilot 15 часов назад
A whole lot of non OEM as with most kit cars, the aircraft firewall i did not know of, thats super cool! Weve just seen the tip of the iceberg with this project, we have tons of work ahead of us

I don't know if there's such a thing as "original" on that car maybe except the frame & body? Not being the owner, and budget...the advances in everything that can be replaced is limitless. I think there are airplane graveyards if gauges are needed, other things. 12 volt/6 volt? Alot! Involved in bringing it back so it functions nice. These tiny engines are putting out so much power now, that car would fly with a small 4. All up to the owner I guess? Really fun project. ( no wood or concrete though)
