What about a single person having a single pigeon, and the person needs to run to the store, or go for a walk, or go to a friends house for an hour or so -- Will the Pigeon be happier and feel more secure and at peace going WITH their person (as long as it is being kept safe and protected from any and all other elements, people, and animals), rather than "staying home alone"??
@BubblyPetz1
@BubblyPetz1 2 дня назад
@@flashlitestriker4028 If your pigeon is bonded to you, then they will always wants to follow you and be with you. You’re pigeon probably isn’t used to traveling and the outdoors, so bringing it with you might stress it out; however, you can work on slowly desensitizing it to the sights, sounds, and experiences outside of your home. That way, your pigeon won’t be scared and can travel around with you without any issues.

@@nikonnikiforoff Usually not since they are bigger birds and they poo off to the side. I have three juvenile pigeons, they are being hand fed a nutrient filled slurry in a syringe atm. How do I know when they’re ready to begin eating on their own?
@BubblyPetz1
@BubblyPetz1 21 день назад
@@whenyoutrybutstillfail505 Usually, they are weaned at around 30 days old. They should pretty much have their adult feathers at this point. You can start by keeping a bowl of seeds in their cage to encourage them to peck at it. If they are at least 2 weeks old, then you can feed them from the syringe but can also introduce them to seeds. You can soak seeds overnight and use the bottle feeding method to get them to eat. There are videos on RU-vid about this that you can check out to help you!

@BubblyPetz1
@BubblyPetz1 Месяц назад
This is natural behavior in pigeons when they are defending their nest. The biting could be avoided if the pigeon saw you as their mate, but that would usually mean keeping only one bird so that they bond to you and not another pigeon. You could probably use a towel to grab your pigeon off the nest to remove the broken egg if you want to avoid getting bit.

@BubblyPetz1

@@adamlorton8923 Ideally, you should wait however long it takes for them to work up the courage to come to you. @BubblyPetz1
@BubblyPetz1 2 месяца назад
Hi, what makes you scared of it? Females tend to be gentler than males and not attack you. My male pigeon likes to run up to me and start biting my hands when he sees them. It hurts because his beak is sharp which makes me hesitant to hand feed him sometimes, but there is nothing to be scared of if your bird isn’t biting or slapping you. They are pretty easy to handle and live with. If you want some care tips, you can check out my other pigeon videos. I have ones for cage setup, basic care, and training!

@@karabo6325 It is normal courting behavior. It’s called driving. Your female pigeon may have been bonded to the male you lost, so it is scared of the unfamiliar new one. It will just take some time for her to accept him, and they should eventually bond.

Hi, I'm planning on getting a pigeon in the near future. You had mentioned it's important to let them out for exercise time. How do you get them back in the cage?
@BubblyPetz1
@BubblyPetz1 3 месяца назад
If they have a favorite nest spot outside the cage and become aggressive if you are reaching your hands around there, then you can grab them pretty easily. Otherwise, you can totally black out the room and make it dark and quickly grab them since they can’t see very well in the dark, and their eyes take longer than ours to adjust to the dark. If you are able to train your pigeon to step up or a command to go back to their cage, then that is even better because they won’t be stressed out when it’s time to go back, but mine was well trained, and even he could not willingly be placed inside the the cage, so I had to resort to the first two methods.
@skylasjourney
@skylasjourney 3 месяца назад
birds don't belong in cages if you can't give them a home without a cage then you shouldn't have a bird
@BubblyPetz1
@BubblyPetz1 3 месяца назад
Yeah, that is the ideal. My pigeon no longer has a cage and is free roam just because of how large he is. My smaller birds do have a cage since it’s easier to provide one large enough for them to fly around in, and since I have so many, it would be difficult to keep up with the cleaning if they were free roam like my pigeon. I have cats too, and the smaller birds would be more likely to escape the room and get hurt if they were out 24/7. I know a lot of parrots benefit from having a cage to be used as like their own little space too, but as long as their owner let’s them free roam most of the day, then I think it’s fine for them to have a cage.
