I got a pigeon four days ago! I got really lucky with him since he already enjoys being outside with me. He willingly flew to my head in day two and three lmao. He is also comfortable with my hand and fingers! Not 100% sure if he was hand raised ( I think it’s illegal where I live to hand raise a bird if not really needed ). He isn’t a racer pigeon though, I think the previous owner kept pigeons as hobbies and maybe fed them by hand time to time! Always do background and history checks on the pigeon you’re getting. ( rescues and racing pigeon adopting is best if you wanna help pigeons! But it might take more time to bond with them imo ).
@BubblyPetz1
@BubblyPetz1 8 месяцев назад
Wow, you are lucky with that! I agree with investigating the backgrounds of your birds since it can help to pick out one without any health issues, a good temperament, if they were hand raised, etc. It can be helpful to know how they were raised so that you can be more accommodating when taking care of and working with them. Unfortunately, it might not always be possible to find out this information like with my birds that I got from Stromberg’s Chickens. I can only suspect that they were raised in an aviary/coop and didn’t have much human interaction from their behavior around me.
@hnnamb
@hnnamb 8 месяцев назад
@@BubblyPetz1 I really did :) I didn’t get much information either 😭 he did give out hints that he sometimes hand fed them and they would hang out on him. But I don’t think they were 100% hand raised 🤷‍♀️. Who knows I didn’t ask because I didn’t want to seem weird but maybe I should’ve.. after all, being safe it’s better than being sorry lol. I just know that my pigeon, Solivan wasn’t for racing and that I assume the breeder only keeps pigeons as a hobby somewhere inside a coop! But I do hope there will be a chance I can adopt a rescue ☹️. There’s so many pigeons who need help.. though sadly it’s hard in my counties to actually find any rescues since we really can’t just take an animal, like a healthy stray dog or cat off the street unless they’re injured or heavily disabled to the point they cannot survive in the wild. Even if it’s a baby bird that was not wanted by their bird parents and it was being left on the ground to die. We sometimes get the chance to raise them ourselves. But I think you need to have a decent experience, since it will most likely be let out into the wild soon once they’re capable of doing so. Which is understandable for wild animals honestly. But most people here won’t get out of their way to help a wild animal here. And rescues are not anywhere near where I live ☹️.

@@hnnamb Aw, that sucks that people aren’t so kind towards animals where you live. It’s great that you want to take in a rescue though. Maybe you can look online to see if there are any pigeon rescues that would be willing to ship within your country.

@@sniffiejoe9370 Have you inspected her feathers to see if she has lice? If you don’t see any, it could be mites which are difficult to see and can take awhile to fully treat. If you see her feet look like the scales are raised up, then it could be scaly face/leg mites. There are some medications for that you can apply to her skin, but it won’t be cured after just one time. You’ll just have to be consistent with treatment, and eventually, her feathers should grow back.

Thanks for the informational video! I learned a lot! I recently acquired a racing pigeon that was eating at my bird feeders, couldn't fly (probably exhausted, but can fly now), and the owner didn't register it so I have no way to return him. I've decided to keep him/her. He just recieved a clean bill of health from the vet, and is actually really healthy. I can only have him indoors, but I have in a 48x28x31 size cage. Built a perch for him also. I currently have him by a window that if he does not want to look out or needs to get out of the sun, he can do so. My question is, will placing him near the window so he can look out affect how I bond with him? Thank you!

I have three juvenile pigeons, they are being hand fed a nutrient filled slurry in a syringe atm. How do I know when they’re ready to begin eating on their own?
@BubblyPetz1
@BubblyPetz1 2 месяца назад
@@whenyoutrybutstillfail505 Usually, they are weaned at around 30 days old. They should pretty much have their adult feathers at this point. You can start by keeping a bowl of seeds in their cage to encourage them to peck at it. If they are at least 2 weeks old, then you can feed them from the syringe but can also introduce them to seeds. You can soak seeds overnight and use the bottle feeding method to get them to eat. There are videos on RU-vid about this that you can check out to help you!

How long, on average, should i hold their food bowl until my pigeon eats out of it? Should i hold it until they approach? Or hold it for like 15 minutes and take the food away and try again a bit later?
@BubblyPetz1
@BubblyPetz1 3 месяца назад
@@adamlorton8923 Ideally, you should wait however long it takes for them to work up the courage to come to you. That’s why you want to make sure that they are hungry before doing this so that they don’t ignore you. It may take longer than 15 minutes for a skittish bird, so you’ll just have to be patient.

How long did it take for each pigeon to get acquainted being close to you? Currently my pigeon is in the finger feeding phase, anything more than that he'll walk away. Usually he circles in front of the mirror during feeding time. Still figuring out when i can pet him but in no rush.
@BubblyPetz1
@BubblyPetz1 10 месяцев назад
Thanks for watching! I didn’t really keep track of how long it took, but I’d say for CloudFeather, it took him a few months to be comfortable around me and almost a year and a half for me to be able to pet him. For InkWing, it’s taken me much longer to earn his trust, since I don’t have much time to work with him on a daily basis. I think it took him almost a year to be okay around me and willingly hang around me, but even then, he still grunts at me and flies off if I approach him most times. Both birds started coming to me and sticking around after I consistently trained them and had treat feeding sessions.

Can you make a vid on how to get ur pigeon to stop biting you bc my pigeon lay in fertilize egg and it broke into yolk and she sit on it and I. Try to take it out coz it stink but she bit me all time
@BubblyPetz1
@BubblyPetz1 2 месяца назад
This is natural behavior in pigeons when they are defending their nest. The biting could be avoided if the pigeon saw you as their mate, but that would usually mean keeping only one bird so that they bond to you and not another pigeon. You could probably use a towel to grab your pigeon off the nest to remove the broken egg if you want to avoid getting bit.

Hi @BubblyPetz1, I need advise. Recently I found wild pigeon outside struggling to eat food in the 40 degree Celsius heat. Found a box grabbed her, she didn’t resist much and brought her to the vet. Vet said she has cankers which is common in pigeons and will take time to heal. Due to cankers her lower beak was sideways that’s why she couldn’t grab food. Left in the vet for 12 days, cankers removed but her lower beak still sideways. She is second day with me trying to hand feed her. I need advice. Please if anyone knows how many times a day to give her food and water? That’s a main concern. She is in the box, sometimes trying to fly and once fed she is quite 😂. She is more active compared to when I found her. She doesn’t resist much when I try to pet her but feeding time she is resisting little but then she calms down and hand feed her. Is it ok to keep her in the box or should I get cage? If I release her she won’t survive coz she can’t eat on her own. Sorry for long explanation, any advice helps. Thx. By the way loved your video 😊

@@NoobNiteMobile Hi, for feeding, I would recommend 2-3 meals a day, but for water I’m not totally sure. I’d probably give water after every meal. My pigeon drinks about 1/4 cup water each day, so I’d probably space that amount out for your bird. Is she really unable to drink water by herself? Have you tried offering a bowl of water and dipping her beak into it? I think she should still be able to drink even if her beak is crooked.

@BubblyPetz1
@BubblyPetz1 8 месяцев назад
@@cathemoody6123 I usually keep him in a room for most of the day and then let him out of that room during training or for filming since I have cats. Usually, he doesn’t sit on me for very long periods at a time, so he doesn’t poop on me. It’s better to wear something that you don’t want to get stained if your bird likes to sit on you or make sure that every 10-15 minutes you take your bird off you to poop before letting them back on you. As for the mess, I just have to clean everyday to keep up with it. It helps that he doesn’t have free range of the house, so most of the mess is confined to the room where I keep his cage.
