Looks like she will be world and Olympic champion at some point in her career if no serious injuries. To run 1.57s at 17 is incredible. She would make the finals of the Paris Olympics with this time. My ex gf was a world class 800 m runner, Canadian 800 m champion and used to compete against Maria Mutola; my ex gfs best time was 1.58s when she was in her mid 20s.

Yes, I agree, he lacks a killer kick. But, at the Olympics, we must remember that for 1500m, each runner must get through quarter finals, semi finals, the Final, in a small time frame. That helps the stronger athlete and often blunts the out-and-out "sit/kick" types. Still, unless some crazy runner, who may also realise that the only way for them to stand a chance in the final, is to make the pace fast. Someone has to push the pace otherwise we will end up with a repeat of the 2016 final (Matt Centrowitz, USA) where the last "kick" lap is run in about 50 seconds! I just hope Jakob isn't forced into the lead too soon due to a super slow pace. Cheers.

I think we could see a very special summer in athletics this year. 3.45 for a season opener has me thinking that we could see somebody go close to the mile world record this year. The 1500m at the Olympics is going to be absolutely historic. Can’t wait. The European Championships are of course in a week or two also!!

3:27 in Paris Jakob!
@Slapthematwrestling
@Slapthematwrestling 4 дня назад
I am not sure how he beats Kerr even with this being an unreal run after being off year. He just can’t out kick him. I would have said that he needs to take the race out in Paris very fast so his endurance can defeat Kerr’s kick, however it was discouraging to see Kerr start his surge with 600m left and still pull it off. Bottom line, In Paris, He will need to go out and know he has to break 3:27 to beat him and just hope the pace takes away from Kerr’s kick or he gets so far out in front of him that Kerr can’t catch him. If Kerr is near him with 400 or less left, i just don’t see it happening for Jacob.
@cyrilanderson
@cyrilanderson 4 дня назад
I mean, I think this race demonstrates that Kerr’s kicking advantage seems to evaporate a fair bit when the pace becomes more serious (54.6 on Saturday vs a 53 second close in Budapest). Kerr didn’t separate at all after the couple of meters he got at the start of the surge.
@wattbenj
@wattbenj 4 дня назад
Yes exactly, he can only win on time. So I think we’ll see a very fast Olympic final. The European Championships next week will guide his tactics for the Olympics, imo. He’ll decide exactly what to do based on what happens in Rome. It brings to mind the Keely Hodgkinson/Mary Moraa dynamic. Keely wins if she runs a fast race - 1.55 for example. Mary Moraa has never run faster than 1.56 but always wins if it’s that time or slower, as her finish is phenomenal.
@sunnydays5581
@sunnydays5581 4 дня назад
This is why i tip it will be a WR in Paris. Jakob will lead and burn, if Josh is there on his shoulder 100 to go, i cant separate them. At 3.25 its not a kick, its only he who can hold on
@hertor8803
@hertor8803 4 дня назад
@@cyrilandersonOf course kicking advantage decreases with overall race speed. There is a limit unless you're going to keep breaking the WR. I don't think Kerr was kicking at 100% here though. He looked totally in control. Jakobs best chance is a fast race but sometimes races just don't work out that way. If no-one else wants to go fast then Jakob will have to lead out the whole thing. That's tough for anyone. Anything could happen in the race. There are at least 3 of 4 genuine contenders and it will just be down to who feels good and who gets it right on the day.
@cyrilanderson
@cyrilanderson 4 дня назад
@@hertor8803 I just mean it seems like Kerr has no real advantage - yet - in closing any more over Jakob when it gets just a little bit faster. A 3:29 race he can close in 53 compared to Jakob’s ~54:54.5. But if the pace is more like 3:28, it seems like Kerr can “only” manage the same sort of 54/54.5 that Jakob can. So the advantage disappears at higher speeds. If you check the splits from Saturday, Kerr also had to drop back to a 58 the third lap to be able to close with a 54.6. Ingebritsen at his prime can run a full smooth 3.75/4 laps. That’s why he has a 3:27/3:43 PR. Jakob is more vulnerable in a “slow” race. (Obviously 3:29 race is not really that slow) Kerr is more vulnerable in a fast race. I find the second part is not emphasized enough lately. I find the truth is they both have strengths and weaknesses that are sort of complementary.

Crazy that 3:45 is a baseline run for him. Jakob is returning to fitness but remember he is also still young and on the rise each year. So is the Goose. I expect them both to go beyond the 3:43 form they had last year based on their trajectory. I expect them to go one and two at the Olympics but they will need to be running 3:26/3:27 to burn off Kerr. Kerr is currently peaking with a massive PB to run 3:45. I don’t see him as a threat at the Olympics if Jakob and the Goose are brave and run fast from the front. If they go slow 3:28/3:29 then Kerr will win again. Lots of guys will be in 3:29 shape at the Olympics and at that pace it will come down to the last 200m and who is in the best position.
