G'day Everyone! Welcome to our Ark where you will experience the whole journey Me & Mrs Galah take you on. We rescue many types of animals, and constantly getting and learning about new ones everyday! You will see everything from building new enclosures, houses, & aviaries, to seeing the release of our new rescues into them and inhibiting their natural behaviors in their environment :D
I recently found your channel and I’m loving it, I’m also from NZ north island tho but I have 3budgies a cockatiel and a few bell frogs. I love all of your pets they look happy and healthy. Keep up the good work :)
No wild predators? Sorry mate NZ has Stoats, ferrets and weasels all have been devastating to native birdlife particularly stoats that seem to have thrived the most.
Hi, just found your vids, I am in NZ also and looking at moving from indoor birds to some outside, im further south than you so a little worried about the cold weather. One comment about your quail aviary , its a great plan but the floor will need drainage holes, it will be very difficult to grow plants in shallow soil like that without them as it will be easy to accidentally drown the plants.
@Kyar Yee YANG I have moved since this video and have a nice new setup for my Guinea pigs, so you can watch my videos on that. But they have a warm house in the back witch should be insulated. I have a video on building one for my new guine pig pen I have. Thanks :)
I know it's exciting to release birds into avairy. But tropical birds do not have any down feathers for added warmth protection. They also need to be acclimated slowly into cooler outdoor temps. They chill very easily. Wait until night time temps do not fall below 50° Fahrenheit. Also I always have a heat lamp inside avairy with perching 6" below light for them to get to quickly when chilled. Good luck! It will be beautiful when warmer and grows in! Patience is a virtue!! Lol
Rabbits are very hardy to the cold, but you will need a warm house for them in winter anyway. You just have to be careful in summer as they can easily over heat. And quail are usually good in heat and cold temperatures, aswell as canaries do great but birds 100% need an insulated house for the winter
@@GalahsArk What sort of house. Because I don’t have a lot of money to spend on a small 6ft shed and insulate it. What else could I use as a cheaper alternative for quail and canary’s ?
@@finndrennan541 all you need is to use cheap box wood to make a small box about 2 cubed meters tall or wide, and that should be good as the wood is thick, but you could also line it with wool or another animal same material like fleece. And also staple clear plastic over it or a tarp to make it water proof :)
@@GalahsArk Could I use a 1inch thick plywood box for the canary’s and quail. With a cheap foil insulation ? Also are quail and canary’s the only cold hardy aviary birds for outdoors in Ireland. And can you tell me a bit about rabbit needs/care and the birds needs/care. I’m so sorry for all these questions. Just really want rabbits and birds and your channel is so amazing
@@finndrennan541 yes that would work great! And if you have an insulated house you can keep more birds like budgies and cockatiels. And there are heaps of informative videos on RU-vid that you could look at. I highly recommend 101rabbits, and bird people like ElleAndTheBirds, Marlene Mc'Cohen, and BirdTricks
Dont worry. I've been bare feet my whole life, aswell as my partner. Our feet are very tough and even if we got that we would keep on going barefoot haha
Yes we realized that but we got them from people who kept them in aviaries so we didnt think it was a problem. But now we have sorted lots of stuff and they should be great when we add more birds eventually
Thanks! And where I live in NZ its mild winters and not sweltering hot summers. So it's quite relaxed all year round and good for the animals. Its mainly just rain and wind in winter as the only problem, but now that we are out of winter we are gonna make sure everything is weather proof by the time its next winter :))
