The NIN record ended up doing well actually, just took time for the public to digest...The Fragile is actually a great progression from Downward Spiral...
+Adelin LaRose (AdLaRO) You probably have naturally high dopamine levels. Pattern detection is driven by dopamine levels and what drugs do is artificially elevate them.
+Crooked Chi ; If it means "finding meaningful connections and coincidences in simple, everyday things", then yeah. For example, if a song comes on at the store and the lyrics relate to something I did or thought about earlier in the day, I always notice it and make a huge deal out of it and no one else seems to care or notice.
It is an acausal connecting principle that can only be applied if all causality an be rules out entirely. Carl Jung compiled a book on it, it was his idea and he developped it with physicist Wolfgang Pauli.
The time being 11:11 or 05.55 is nothing to do with the universe or nature throwing anyone a bone. Simply, it is your 'novelty-detector' part of the brain noticing a pattern/event and then you giving it some significance. In the extreme, this can be applied to one's set of beliefs which further cements "proof" of the supernatural. I'm not saying there isn't some funky stuff out there, but until there's scientific evidence for that stuff, I'm gonna stick to knowing that sometimes the clock shows the time 11:11, and sometimes I look at the clock, and sometimes those two events coincide. Still love Tool - it's just cool to know that he's just as clueless as the rest of us, and not the demi-deity he appears to be! ;)
You misunderstood him. He wasn't saying that these numbers have any significance by themselves, in fact he was not saying anything contrary to what you wrote. All he says is that once you tap into something deeper, you start to pick up on synchronicities and patterns, not that the individual numbers are significant, but the pattern you develop from digging into these things can be significant. The number 11:11 or 5:55 can look appealing because they are simple compared to fx 23:09, but their simplicity makes it easy for you to relate them to each other. Take the fibonacci sequence (on which Lateralus touches upon). This is a sequence based on patterns of values, which are ubiqutous in nature, and if you think further about it, you can connect it to synchronicity. Don't expect Maynard to reveal everything in an interview; if you have looked around you will see that it's more often the opposite that's the case. They want to make you think, not give you all the answers on top, because the idea is to develop people instead of telling them what to do. This doesn't mean that Maynard is some demigod, he just thinks about things and surrounds himself with good and likeminded people.
