Maynard james keenan is definitely someone i really look up to, this person is awsome, his philosophy of the world is so special, yet so true and i recognise myself in what he says, he was raised in hard conditions but still made his best to make his life help people like me and you.
maynard has such a laid back and almost weak talking voice. when he sings it's like he brings his whole being to another plane of existence and his voice becomes a force that could slice through time and space.
I love his attitude..I love what he writes about..what he talks about and I love that we have his music to listen to.Most people have no clue how genius his lyrics even are. Tool and A Perfect Circle are 2 bands I can't live without
I was at the concert in 01 with pertect circle and nine inch nails I collapsed he jumped off stage and handed me to his help he is an amazing person and an amazing musican
Yeah all of those bands you said. Every band member are my best friends as I know them personally and I cherish them and I cherish our friendship. Braaap!
I love what Maynard says about people selling their head. I've loved Tool for years, I truly enjoy their music. I never knew what they looked like (not until now), and I never had any desire to, honestly. Because it should never be about that in the music industry. I just love the sounds that they produce.
I don't think I've ever heard anyone accuse them of "selling out", ever. I honestly don't think anyone out there could say that and keep a straight face. It would be like saying Rush sold out... You just can't combine those words in the same sentence.
Obviously it would've been their ORIGINAL fans that saw them live, and bought their first EP. Obviously you and I can't relate to that, but it happens to a lot of bands. Green Day were not welcome where they were from in the Oakland area after they signed with Reprise for example. It's the nature of the beast, everything is a product begging for your fatass dirty dollar.
thank god for that man he took all that is bad about the music industry and shyed away from it completely i love the idea of selling music not image it is missing in pop but also metal, country, and all music
4:50, fuck yea mjk, thats why your music never gets old or played out. absolute integrity in the band and more importantly, the music we all hear from it.
Oh man, I remember watching this interview on TV. It was either in the 90's or early 2000's. Cant remember, but i know the best interviews are always done in Toronto :)
maynard is one of those rare, super-witty people that can just do whatever the fuck they want and still be cool. always knows the right thing to say. Every interview with him is funny because they always pair him up with an airhead and it's like einstein explaining physics to a dog. No one's on his level.
I agree with most everything you said with one exception. Tool does not tour that often. In the US they usually do one major tour for each album. They might have another tour a year later or so but when each album is 5 years apart, when Tool come to your town you see them simply because you have no idea when they are coming back.
@eyeammi Your right that is the entire point of tool's music. It's not what they want to say because it's personal and unique for them. It's what you feel and how you think the music is a part of you.
They are all DROP D tunning. And alot of their choruses are just 3rd fret and 5th fret chords. But I still think they're pretty different from each other. Plus they change time signatures a lot.
The universe is still an awesome fantastical miraculous mosaic of course, but come on lets be real. What goal are we really working towards? We are working towards greater consciousness and enlightenment, but we're REALLY just working to preserve ourselves, to continue existing.
We would not be here if it were not for a goal. We would not exist if there were no reason, just the same a reason wouldn't "exist" for no reason. Reproduction is merely a way for us to continue on forward.
***** No, there is probably no "reason" to exist, the greatest quote I've ever heard uttered in this respect is: "The universe doesn't owe us any meaning" - that should be humbling, it should make you appreciate your own life and make you find your own meaning, but at the same time, it doesn't mean there is one, or that there is some goal. I can appreciate my existence but simultaneously, I understand that it is in all likelihood, without any purpose but the one I make for it.
To say that the universe doesn't owe us any meaning is to imply that the "universe" is the creator of meaning and that it dishes out meaning and lack there of to its creations. Not only that but it is "you" who is making the judgment of whether or not we should have meaning, not the "universe". And by the way your entire argument is an attempt to manipulate an emotional response in place of a valid or compelling argument.
yeaaaahh....I am pretty sure all of the thoughts MOST people have had in their lifetime hafe been thought TWICE by Maynard....along with an infinite number of other ones. I am beginning to understand his complex character, and the thoughts he shares with few people on Earth.
All music is open for interpretation, that's what makes it so beautiful. I can get one message from any Tool song but you may get a different message. You can't fully understand Tool unless you do D.M.T and astrally project!
a perfect circle and tool music is just about evolution. those ares some of the stages which maynard and other artists pass through. it's amazing i guess. i particularly love a perfect circle first album "mer de noms", but i think that tool's music is great too... i love that. the constant changes and activity of artists, the experimentation. if one doesn't like APC i think it's ok, i don't like all the tool's album either
I am sure that he is aware of his position in TooL and or his identity in real life but I know this much, "OMG U Maynard!!!" is the first thing u spit out, if he doesnt know that then well my friend you have gained a lifelong admirer who will make you copies of keys to all of his houses, studios etc cuz u a genius who's mind he will want to probe for information that will not be forgotten. I would treat him like what he is to me - a stranger. I fucking borderline worship the music he makes but
Oh it’s about the money too, their attitude is, Tool makes no compromise when it comes to the writing of their music. So when it is finally completed you better know that you will be paying top dollar to see Tool or any of Maynard’s bands in concert.
I wouldnt freak out. He is only human. Genius? Affirmative. Talented beyond the point of an accurate method of measure? Check. Smarter than I am? Well pretty much anyone with a pulse is intellectually my superior but I know a few things. If he met me I promise u he would say the same thing everyone else who ever met me ever - "I have NEVER met anyone like u in my life u crazy fucking bastard!" Yea Im from south LA but I know more than boudin & boiled crawfish. TooL is the best music ever. Period
Dude. I don't know wtf a boudin is, and I've never eaten anything with more than 4 legs (nowadays I don't eat anything with a face), but I damn sure want to meet you.
I've seen a shit-ton of interviews with Maynard. In this one, her questions were poignant, yet noninvasive... a biggie for Maynard, obviously. Seriously, one of the best interviews I've seen with him. Generally, you're about a minute & 1/2 into it (if that), and you can see his whole demeanor change ~ glib sarcasm, 'whatever it is you wanna hear from me', or just flat-out 'you're a complete idiot, who couldn't understand me if you were on mushrooms. ... are we done yet??'. Oh, & she's hot. =)
