That is true, as i said i realise it would probably be a bit cramped with a stick in it. I didn't realise how much untill i took a proper look at the size. It is really only going to be a little bigger than the Miyoo Mini Plus. It just feels like a loss for the N64 games that need that analaog stick, but i guess it will depend on what type of games you want to play. Thanks for watching.
@@jonathonearl482 Then this would be well suited to you. It does really look awesome and i am a Trimui fan so im excited to see what hands on reviewers say.
Your link literally has the Miyoo at 3x the price of what you put in the thumbnail and claim, which is more than the Anbernic. But looking on AliExpress, there aren't any under $40, so the Anbernic is still not double the price, despite it being just released. Such a click bait title
Hi There. Apologies. I see i forgot to include the link to the MM+ I found on Aliexpress. It is $32 at the Ampown store with shipping to the US, but that is before tax though. Here is the link: s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_DEMIbxN. Once again sorry if that apeared a bit misleading. Was under a bit of pressure when finishing the video and just didn't pay close enough attention when doing the description. The link to LITNXT is for viewers that want the unit with Onion OS pre setup.
Great video, friend. I'm willing to buy a handheld which can run PSP games well, so any of these could be good? Or is the Trimui Smart Pro better in this aspect? I don't think it was quite clear on the video.
Hi There. The Trimui Smart pro can play PSP games but you will most probably not be able to play all PSP games as this system is really the limit of what the smart pro can do. Many reviewers optimised the settings so as to be able to get a playable expereince on heavier games like God of War chanins of olympus. When comparing the Trimui to the 40XXH i would say that the Smart Pro is better for PSP as it has a larger 16:9 screen whihc would just make the games look better. Both the Trimui and the 40XXH will performa about the same in rendering the games but it will ook better on the Smart Pro basicallyt. If you want a smoother experience with PSP the next step up would be the likes of A Retroid Pocket 2 S but it is roughly $100 and has a smaller screen. Hope this helps, thanks for watching.
@@TheTechUpdate-ui1fh Thank you for explain this, friend. So, there isn't a cheaper option to play PSP games (when not the PSP itself) that is more affordable than the Retroid Pocket 2 S? I've been seeing some things about the RG351P, but it seems that the RG35/40xx (or Trimui Smart Pro) are still a better option.
@@equinox1141 Unfortunately other thna the Retroid Pocket 2 S. i am not aware of any Sub $100 (Before Shipping and tax) devices that would perform better than the Trimui Snart Pro with PSP. Definitely none with that screen size. The 351P has a comparable chip but from what i have seen it does not outperform the smart pro and it has a smaller screen with a lower resolution and often costs more. If anyone reading this has knowledge of something better feel free to correct me here.
Miyoo Mini has more vibrant screen though. Also, I hate to be that, but.. Onion OS is miles better than any other CFW including MuOS. Also if you overclock MM ps1 core it basically plays every single ps1 game at decent speed. Another observation is that Resident Evil games work faster on MM lol. I mean these delays when a new background loads. It feels that on anything but MM and Android handhelds it takes about 1.5 more time to load. So MM is the winner for me. And that is coming from a guy that is a huge Dreamcast fan, which can't be emulated on MM.
Hi there. Thanks for the detailed feedback. Always good to hear about a first hand experience. I am shure you are correct in saying that Onion OS is brilliant. Just from watching reviews i have heard so much about it. I acan also see the value that the MM+ offers for such a low price but personally i think the little space to hold and interact with it would bug me and the larger screen more power and features of the 40XXV just ahas me sold. Bear in mind i have only played a bit with a friends MM+ and i haven't ever handled a 40XXV so that opinion might change when i do one day. My feedback is based of what i am getting from other s in the community. If i had to buy at this stage i would honestly have to say i would choose the 40XXV just from what is being said of it but if if im really budget constrained the MM+ would also be good. Hope this clarifies my view and position. Thanks again for sharing, you have some very valid points.
@@TheTechUpdate-ui1fh sure. Thanks for you video as well. We need as many opinions as possible. I also have rg405v, which I call DreamStation64, since it's the one I play Dreamcast, PS1 and N64 the most. All upscaled look beautiful on 4 inch screen. So that's another reason rg40xx wasn't a huge deal to me. But MM is the goat forever for me 😌 I bought all four color variants just to have backup, because I don't think we will have something like that anyday soon after Miyoo stops making them. Also I found than owning MM, 405v and SteamDeck is the ultimate trinity of handhelds. What a time to be alive 😅
@@vhsretrogamer1664 sounds absolutley awesome. I would love to own a trinity of handhleds like that. I am also excited about where the industry is going. Would be awesome if we could get a $100 ish handheld that can play PS2 and Gamecube eventually.
@@TheTechUpdate-ui1fh I think we get closer to that with RPMini and RP5. But PS2 has a software limit of emulation, some games can't be properly emulated even on high end pcs. Gamecube and WII in the pocket would be a killer though 👌🏻😌
Didn't know about the software limit on PS2, so thanks for sharing. Agreed on the Gamecube and Wii games aswell, excited to see what reviewers say about the Snapdragon 865's ability to overclocked. Thinking that it might produce some good performance at a great price point if what i', reading about pushing the limits on the chip is true.
Well the 406 V has been released so you may not have to wait Long. I agree that a 406M would be awesome. Hoping it has a Unisoc T820 processor and a Oled Screen though, That would be great!. Thanks for watching.
Hi There. I have to say i didn't know that the Whole Modded Vita Thing existed. Just did some research on it and it seems as though it would run everything sony great as well as older retro Games like SNES, Gameboy and Genesys. The Reviews i found on it did mentions some niggels with N64 content though so if you go this route you may have to be willing to tinker with emulator settings and different cores to get certain games to run. If you can get an Oled PS Vita it would look better than the Trimui Smart Pro. The downside on a modded Vita for me is the Price. You can get the Trimui Smart Pro for around $50 if you're lucky and it will probably run things like N64 better. I could not find a Modded Vita for less than $150. Also Based on the Vita's hardware and the reviews i've seen it sounds like it might run PSP games better than the Smart Pro but at $140 you could rather consider something like the Anbernic RG556 which can run PSP like a dream and run PS2 and gamecube emulation and it has an Oled Screen aswell(Not all games but many). It retails for around $160-$175. That's my opinion based of some quick research. Hope it helps.
Is worth RG40XX V as a doubled price Miyoo Mini + ? yes, because it emulates better PS1 and also you have Dreamcast and N64 best with joystick,or if you don't care about joystick, buy RG35XX+
Greetings all, Seems i messed up the specs on the Max 3 Screen. It is a 5 Inch screen not a 4 Inch screen. Apologies for that. thanks to @ShioMW who highlighted that.
It truly runs better but tha stock is perfect...with cross mix it's cool but it seem to crash or either won't play a game or just down right freeze tha hole system
That's not good. First time i've heard of that happening with it. Found a thread on reddit which mentions it does that when playing video's and a Crossmix moderator mentioned that a fix will be released in the next version of the OS (www.reddit.com/r/trimui/comments/1eh1xyo/video_player_on_trim_ui_smart_pro_keeps_freezing/). The unit not wanting to launch a game could be due to which core you are trying to run the game with from what i have seen or it is unfotunately just not compatible. But if the stock OS has provided you with a better expereience stick to it, it is very funtional. Thanks for watching!
Weird i know but price wize they are close together. And the Odin can still provide some good performance. Only problem with it is the older Android 10 OS. The RG556 is a better value proposition in my book though.
@TheTechUpdate-ui1fh most def. my hands can grip a bball so I NEED that grip on the console 😂 a bigger OLED screen also is a big plus 💪🏾 thanks for the recommendation bro ✊🏾 keep the good content comin 🫡
Im wondering between these two. Any advice which has better cpu, because i was wondering about emulating PC games (saw videos of Half Life etc) Thanks for the review (made even more confused 😂)
Hi there. On paper the Trimui has a slightly faster Cpu but in practise they play more or less the same games at roughly the same speeds. The Trimui may eek out some better performance but only under certain scenarios. If you want to play PC games like Half Life on these it will be done through an app called Portmaster. It is already installed if you get the unit with Crossmix OS(This can be done by purchasing from companies like LITNXT or MechDIY from what i hear) I couldn't find any gameplay video's for the Rg40xxH but im pretty shure it will run Portmaster, just can't confirm how well. Here is a link to a gameplay video for the Smart Pro though that shows how half life is played on it: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ljIG2camow4.html. You will have to copy the game files from a installed paid version of the game on a pc and transfer it to the right forlder on the unit if you want to do so though(thats how portmaster works to avoid legal issues) Russ over at Retro Game Corps has a guide on how to do this at this link: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-1rAe9P74BLI.html. I think the bigger screen will serve you well on the smart pro especially for PC Game Ports. If you choose to go this way just be shure to Calibrate the joysticks in the built in app and i have seen some commenters say that adding joystick caps to the smart pro analog sticks improves the expereince with them aswell . Hope this helps. Thanks for watching.
Hi there. That may be an idea. the Miyoo was quite popular but If they did it would make it quite a bit more expensive than its competitors. The Anbernic Rg35xxSP sells for $60 from anbernic directly so they would have to be able to pack a lot more value into it to justify the price diefference. Thanks for watching.
It definitely has it's advantages and is not a bad value proposition. When comparing the 2 though i just prefer the larger screen of the smart pro. But everyone will have his own preference in this matter. That is part of the reason i enjoy making these video's as it lays out the facts and usually genereats a bit of debate. I enjoy hearing other gamers view on the devices and what they think when comparing 2 units like this. Thanks for watching.
When i read your comment i thought surely this is wrong but after searching it up a bit i found a video where someone tested playing some lighte PSP games on the unit with Rocknix fiimware installed and was surprised to see that it can actually do ok with some of the less intensive 3d games. It is really awesoem to think that a $40 handheld can do this and the games don't look bad either on the 3:2 screen. PSP gameplay video at this link for anyone who wants to check it out: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_uKMuRpA_nk.html Thanks for watching and for the comment. This was a bit of a eye opener for me.
It can play some lighter PSP games. Check out a gameplay video at this link to get an idea of what type of games :ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-q-ZavQL0kEw.html
adjust the analog stick's with the custom software on the trimui and add tall thumb pads and you cured the issue with its analog stick. its a handheld so no real need for video out, if you want to play on a tv buy a console or steam deck/switch. as for the wifi so what at least it has it and it works not going to be playing online games a lot and if streaming games is your goal again buy another type console or handheld, as for stiff trigger buttons they do "break in" and get a bit loser, however you adjust to both the d-pad and triggers within an hour of using it.
I did see some reviewers mentioning that the analog sticks are betetr after calibration and i can imagine adding custom thumb pads would help. The video out is not a deal breaker for me but i would still like it as an option evethough it is not the primary purpose of the console, thats just me though. i agree on the wifi it would not be too much of a issue for me but had mention it in the comparison tto give all the facts. it is good to hear that the stiff triggers do get better. I am a fan of the smart pro eventhough i don't own one so trust me in most comparisons i am rooting for it to win and as stated i still believe it to be the better option between these 2 mainly due to the larger screen and the fact that the other issues are not major and can be improved like you stated. Thanks for the comprehensive feedback, i really aprreciate when someone shares detailed information like this that was obtained by using the device extensively.
Hi There, I have not seen anyone speaking about this directly in reviews but the 405V has Bluetooth capability and has an Android operating system. So in theory it should be able to connect to Bluetooth headphones. I did find this thread on reddit where users where discussing which Anbernic devices support Bluetooth Audio and the 353V was mentioned as one of the devices that did. You can view the thread here:www.reddit.com/r/ANBERNIC/comments/15cyfcr/model_that_works_with_bluetooth_headphones/. If you're thinking of buying the RG 405V you may consider waiting a bit as they have just announced the RG406V which would be a upgraded version of the 405V. We don't know much about it yet but it should be a better experience. Hope this helps, thanks for watching
Hi There. The smart pro does not have L3 and R3 functionality last i heard. You can use software to remap those inputs to start and select and then move start and select to a button combo. Not ideal though. The RGB10 Max 3 does have L3 and R3 functionailty but you will only be using it when streaming through moon;lighgt and possibly when playing some PC Ports through portmaster. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching
I was already excited about this one, and then today they announced it would have Linux support including Batocera! Now I'm SUPER excited! Great video, man!
Update 04-09-24: Greetings all CPU and other specs on the RP 5 and Mini were revealed just Hr's ago.You can check it out on their X channel at thsi link: x.com/Retroid0fficial. Both the RP 5 and the Mini will have the Snapdragon 865 chipset. If it is a stock 865 it would be a bit dissapointing as this would not really performa much better than the dimesity 1100 in the PRP4 Pro. Check out these benchmarks to give you and idea: nanoreview.net/en/soc-compare/qualcomm-snapdragon-865-vs-mediatek-dimensity-1100 It does open up the option to implement custom drivers that may squeeze out some more performance and aparently this chipset can be oveclocked quite a bit so if they have proper active cooling and push the performance on the chip we may stil lsee some noteworthy performance. Here's hoping. One other good thing on this is that the price would probably not be too crazy. Possibly $250 on the RP5 maybe less and maybe $180-$230 is on the Mini??? I will update as soon as we know.

Hey, just coming here to say that you're videos are quite good! I wouldn't say they are the best of the quality, but they are honest opinions, and it's really hard to find some without being too biased towards certain stuff. Really good job! I am looking for getting a trimui for 60€ with the 256gb card. I think it's a good deal for a linux device to mess around with! I do wonder one thing tho. Can it run different emulators? For example, could it run switch games that are really not demanding? Like shovel knight etc? Or other 2d stuff with no 3d rendering. And can it even run actual linux distros?
Hi There. Thanks for the compliment and the feedback. Working on getting better with every video so watch this space. Looking to get on camera one day soon aswell so hopefully that will ad a bit to the expereince. Unfortunatley i doubt the Smart Pro can run anything newer than PSP emulation even lightweight 2d games. The minimum requirements for PS2 emulation far exceeds what the smart pro has available hardware wize. Not too mention the software compatibility of the emulators with the firmware. Switch emulation is even more demanding so i don't think it would run. I could be wrong as i don't know everything but i looked around and i could not find any references to someone having succesfully done this. I do think however that it should be possible to get some lightweight linux distro's to run on the device as the stock firmware is linux based. Maybe something like Ubuntu Mate? Once again could not find any reference to anyone who has tried this so you it would be an expeirment if you do. Just make sure your research it up first, wouldn't want you to brick your device somehow as this is unexplored teritory to me so i would not be able to tell you how.
@@TheTechUpdate-ui1fh i see i see, well i probably won't try that yet, i think i will send you more info when i try certain stuff... I think honestly it could run some really light weight wii or wii ware games (Example, GNOMZ)

I feel like I’m the only one who hates the trimui smart pro, the joysticks are trash, the trigger and bumper also bad, tiny dpad, not user friendly, I installed the new cross mix os and still don’t like it
Not the only one, I know of 1 or 2 youtubers that don't like it either, specifically due to the inset analog sticks. Personally i like the value that it offers on paper but i have not had hands on with the unit so i may feel differently if i ever did. Thanks for watching though, maybe consider the Powkiddy RGB10 Max 3? Same Price and from what i hear better analogs and triggers?
@@jonathanwhite9490 Interesting, Must say the Max3 has made me look twice aswell. Sad to hear that the Smart Pro was a let down. I lke the look of it and the ongoing support is a good thing in my book. But the HDMI out on the Max 3 is a great extra that the pro does not have and it makes me think that it may be the better buy.
@@TheTechUpdate-ui1fh perhaps I just had a faulty unit but definitely still prefer the powkiddy better joysticks slightly better dpad and as you mentioned the hdmi option
Considering the stock memory card went corrupted after 24 hours and seeing there was nothing i could do about it on the system itself. Couldn't even look at the files if i wanted too because no file app. I would say its a def a install. Not only that, if you mess up retroarch by tinkering with the settings. You get locked out. The crossmix has a separate retroarch app so you can fix unintentional saves. Lastly. Updates. Crossmix can do it off the system. Stock you have to DL and put on a memory card yourself. Pain in the ass. Just DL crossmix.
Sounds like very valid reasons to Install Crossmix. Didn't know you get locked out if you mess up Retro arch you get locked out. Thanks for the feedback!
