Thank you so much for making this video William, it really is top teir youtubery. I love both the KORG Polyphonic Ensembles from 1976, PE1000 and PE2000. Just recently added a Lambda to the collection after repeatedly watching your comparison. Hats off to your synth string skills sir.
fixin to sell something to buy a behringer solina... i have a 40 dollar amazon modulation pedal (mod flamma) with a nice rotary feature... im wondering if putting the solina thru a rotary will make it sound like a poor mans roland...
Today I (finally) got hold of your albums "Orion" and "Enlightenment". Sounds stellar! Tops anything Jarre has done in the past 15 years. Why don't you sell these? Did you ran out of the print or what?
I discovered this video in 2024 (I understand it's from 2012). You say the piece isn't very original? Well, with each passing year, I miss that "lack of originality" as you call it, which is so original both in what it conveys and in the way you made it, that is, with many limitations. I know hundreds of composers who show an arsenal of equipment, like a bodybuilder displays his muscles, but their music leaves nothing in my mind or soul. And I'm not just referring to compositions from today. Congratulations.
a Korg fan.... nothing wrong with that, but, it isn't the "ultimate" comparison... (don't get me wrong, all of the sounds are great!!... but there are other string machines out there....)... anyway, it was a great video for the sounds these things make...
You're right. I actually am (was) a Korg fan, and the word "ultimate" is a bit of a strech here. Acquiring vintage synths, however, is not that easy, straigthforward nor cheap always. Here I just made a video of the stuff I had in my fingertips at the time. It's a pity I couldn't include some Yamahas I also had at some point. I'm fully aware that there are some great stringers, Crumar, Logan, Moog etc... But a lot of them are so obscure that they practically never show up in the second hand market in Finland. Even some of these synths I bought from abroad.
You gotta try out a Crumar Orchestrator and an ARP Omni. Those are two of the very best. The bass on the Omni is absolutely incredible. Also, the trident sounds sooooo good. You really made it shine here.
Very nice video thank you. You bagged the Delta pretty hard, but it sounded good to me, not quite as sweet as the Trident but pretty damn good. It's made me want to dig out my old beaten up Delta and give it a play.
I came away from this video confident that the Trident was the far and away clear winner... then discovered everyone else has different opinions than me! Haha
