Niall, that is definitely a day to summit Slieve League with those stunning views☀👍 Malinbeg has to be one of the most beautiful beaches in Ireland - went there a few years ago (after a wild camp at Glenlough coincidently) and the sand was nearly too hot to walk on and there were dolphins jumping out in the bay which was magical. Always stunning to see the coast around Port, either in person or through the eyes of others, and I cannot think of anywhere more spectacular than Glenlough Bay👍 A perfect bivy spot to watch that million dollar view of the sun lowering over the Atlantic Ocean☀ Bivy is the way to go if the weather works with you⭐⭐ to get that more immersive experience. Not that often I get a really good nights sleep when out wild camping💤 A great place to visit more than once to explore all it has to offer.
The West Coast of Donegal is rapidly becoming my favourite place to visit. Maybe if I win the lottery I can take early retirement and buy myself some land along there 🤔 For now I'll have to be content with some infrequent visits 😊
Good point. I was sent this as a review product from Night Cat and it was the only model they had at the time. It was upgraded and they added a few new items to the range last year. Unfortunately this is the only one that I have tried and can't compare to the lay flat version. Thanks for watching though, hope you enjoyed it 🙂
I did, lovely spot. If you can, get a look at the LayFlat....I am a hammock novice, not liking the banana principle! but have been quite impressed with it, you do keep flat and can side sleep. Again you can bivvi with it too....the vlogger "DIVUM" did a short film with the both of us using them in the wet and cold. They worked very well.
Excellent, Niall. You mentioned you had a restless night. I hope the night skies provided you with some brilliant stargazing before that morning cloud cover rolled in.
Not restless enough to waken up properly and spend time stargazing but every time I did waken a bit the moon was bright like daytime it was so clear and almost full. I think I may have missed a fine celestial show....
Brilliant video lad. Stunning setting! I loved the sunsets and the landscapes. What a phenomenal place. Can't believe you're throwin shade at the firepots! We will have to disagree on that. Ha ha ha. Great video Niall. Thanks for sharin
I watched one of yours just before editing this and the Firepot comments immediately sprang to mind 🤣 Saying that I still haven't tried the Summit to Eat ones so I may need to reverse my viewpoint yet....
@@walkwatchers that one was the beef stew, the first one I tried was Chilli con Carne I think. Disappointed with how poorly they rehydrated, the chilli was the worst of the two, the beef not too bad. Maybe it's something I'm doing wrong?
@@nialloutdoors The only tip I have is to stir it right down into the corners as soon as you pour the hot water in. I've had the lumpy dry bits before too- not nice. I would also leave it a minute or two longer than the time too. Just to be sure.
What a smashing location pal. Like absolutely stunning 🙌 gotta put this route on my list. Might get to it this year. Lovely bivvy set up as well man. What tarp is it? Great job. I felt the calm you got from the sunset.😊 😊
Cheers Martin, I'll be happy to show it to you 😊 The tarp is the Flames Creed (3FUL) small tarp. Got it on AliExpress using a link from a video of Jason's 👍
Just great to see your joy Niall (a Bivvi on a night and in a place like that ! is good for you (as you said mate )) Thanks for sharing it with us all 🙏🏼🤠 Best regards Simon
Magical indeed! Breathtaking scenery and what an amazing coastline! I have scuba dived in the wee bay behind Malinbeg beach. The underwater wildlife and scenery is also spectacular. What tarp and bivvy bag do you have? I'm also a fitful sleeper so I know how you feel. I usually just have a lie-in the following morning and get up around midday! 😮
I like your style Kevin 🤣 It's an Alpkit Hunka XL Bivvy Bag and a sil nylon Flames Creed tarp from Ali Express. I think it's it's 3FUL's US brand name?
www.outdooractive.com/en/r/287199867?share=%7Ezyskzcre%244ossitnu& That's the track from the last time I did it. Approx 12km round trip do approx 6km from Port to the signal tower...
@@kieranstafford9718 it's not but it follows the coast, keep the water on your right and you can't go wrong 🤣 Once you get to the tower the route back is marked and follows a track. On the way out from Port you follow the track and turn off to follow the coast. It's not signed but if you are watching for it you will see the tracks of others and a faint quad track. From memory there was a post at the corner and a small stone sitting on top. Of course the stone isn't permanently attached so don't depend on this 😉
Hi Niall. Nice setup for a spot of lunch. Those were mad looking mushrooms/ fungi's growing out of the tree. I like the chair, it beats a sit mat. All the best 👍
The problem here Niall is that your brilliant showcasing of this tarp, just makes me want to add even more to more ever increasing amount of outdoor stuff 😂 Joking aside, enjoyed the video very much. ATB George
Nice job man. Cracking set up. Very impressed and thanks for the tips. I shall be trying that one. Loved the sound of the rain on the tarp. One of the most relaxing sounds out there. Thanks for bringing us along with you. 😊
Unfortunately not 😔 Put way too much pressure on myself and ended up getting sick of the bike at the end of April and only just got back to it in the last couple of weeks. Back to the very beginning too, trying to build a basic fitness with a 20km easy loop 🙈
Such a shame the weather didn’t play ball for you. Hopefully you will get the opportunity to complete the rest of that walk you had planned for the remaining two days.
Shame the mountain gods didn’t play ball Niall but your tent ⛺️ survived and the previous day was great views and some great ground covered 👌🏻 Nxt time you will nail it mate 🍀 Great watch as always 🤠👍 Best wishes Simon The cook up looked amazing by the way 👌🏻
Niall, haven't been up Benbradagh and Donald's Hill in many a year so it was good to be reacquainted with them. Lots of local opposition to more proposed windfarms in the area. Looked like pretty good walking underfoot, loved that wee stream and the footbridge👍 A lovely first day and you had the views alright from the top of Donald's Hill. It has been very challenging to get a couple of decent days of weather together for what seems forever! Always good to get out and undertake these adventures, even if they don't always go according to plan👍
It's a lovely area Gerry. Lots of wind farms up there already so I can see whey they don't want many more. Hoping for the start to the good weather this weekend 🤞
Hi Niall good to see you again must be almost a year since the mourne weekend hard to believe. Was up on Benbradagh myself in Feb and around the US military site still snowy then. Great video nice skillet look forward to your next adventure. Take care.
Hi Niall. I see you brought a furry friend with you 🙂. Its a pity about the weather, but there is no joy in it when the weather turns like that. On a positive note !! you got through the night unscathed. You are a dab hand with the frying pan, your grub looked nice. Until the next one 👍. Take care
Food was great but definitely added weight to the pack that I could have done without on Day 2 🙈 The Helm did so much better than I expected, great wee tent but my furry friend has been dispatched back to Amazon! 🤣
I look forward to seeing this route over 4 days in better weather mate! Those pitches are great if the weather plays ball haha. I've had a couple of nights where my tent has beaten me up. Dinner looked spot on btw.
Well mate. Pity but the main thing is you got out. Finishing is a bonus man and look at it as a challenge to you to do it again. The compact 1 is some tent. Good choice cutting it short. Always the hard decision but that comes with experience so well done. Enjoyed the adventure. 😊
Niall, I would agree that is the finest coastal walk I have so far encountered in Ireland. A beautiful place that looks stunning in all sorts of weather, though best with that sun you got on the drop back to Port☀️😊
Always be wary of camping in woods if it is stormy. Strong winds can bring trees down, and I wouldn't like to be under one when it does. Always bring comfortable sound limiting ear plugs and a comfortable eyemask. I've learned that the hard way. Be very very careful when lighting gas in a pine wood. You are surrounded by candles, quite literally. Those flames were too close to a tree whose sap and bark are both highly flammable.
Thanks for the advice, all very good. That's an area I've been in a few times and I'd already checked for dodgy trees. Unfortunately with the Irish climate and especially the period leading up to this you would be hard pushed to light one of those trees with a blowtorch 😭 Ground fires now are a whole other story. Very dangerous on our peaty soils!
