If I’m being honest.. no I wouldn’t open them I’d definitely save them for trade bait lol just because I’m not a rye guy.. I’ll have a chance to get the set today though hopefully, there’s an allocated drop in Virginia with this set.. there’s a set a piece dropping at like 8 different stores in VA I believe
I have taken 14 tours at Barton ( they give you a dated bung at each tour ) And luckely I had my son in law with me on my last tour there in Oct. From what I saw on my tours was, yes the visitor center is small, but I dont believe that is the issue. I feel the issue is truck traffic and visitors. When you come in and park, its directly next to where trucks are passing thru. And if you have noticed when people are on their cell phones, some are oblivious to their surroundings. And they could walk right in front of a truck. And these trucks are from Barton, from farms hauling in grain, from bottle suppliers. So to protect them from lawsuits and to protect visitors, they canceled tours. Those are my thoughts. I also feel some changes could be made to allow tours to re-start. First build a new Visitor Center on some open ground by the incoming drive, and seperate the entrances, trucks and visitors. Second , build a fenced in walkway to the ditillery and the warehouse. There are a lot of stairs, so maybe add an elevator. It is an old distillery, but so is Buffalo Trace, which has the same owner, and they offer a lot of tours. So those are my thoughts, and maybe someday soon they will open tours again.
Hopefully they aren’t the ones calling themselves “very reputable.” At the end of the day, every single channel on RU-vid are just people who enjoy bourbon and film selves drinking it. I wouldn’t put any content creator on any higher of a pedestal than anyone else who enjoys bourbon. Trust your own palate more than anyone else’s! That being said, this single barrel is from years ago. Also, it was terrible. The very nature of single barrels can make that possible, but there was no excuse of this bottle being $50 when bottled in bond is $40. Im sure if I tried another one, maybe I’d rank higher. But that’s the nature of this; you could listen to one reviewer and they tell you it’s the best thing ever, you go to the store to get one…then you get a bottle like mine. Horrible. I’d take everything anyone says as a guide, not gospel. At the end of the day, all of our palates are different and no one is right or wrong. It’s just taste buds. The fact that there’s such variance in opinions is a good thing, otherwise bourbon would be quite boring. Cheers!
Great review,. My wife just bought the small batch from Costco for father's day, along with a bourbon smoking kit. So my plan is to try it neat, as well as with ice. Then I will smoke some and see how it fares. Again thanks for the review

I've never had any 1792 before but it has been on my list to try. Managed to snag a full proof and a bottled in bond at an allocated drop this morning in South Carolina. I'm excited to try them.

I just got into Penelope bourbon and other four grain offerings (Frey ranch). I love the rosé finish strawberries and vannilla mix. Nice finish medium to long . I have only two complaints. I wish the proof was higher 100 - 110 would have been perfect.. Secondly I hate the cork with that said I buy another bottle. Barrel strength is my favorite of rosé and architect. Haven't had the basic offering (80pf) or toasted yet...
It’s dangerous. I use to be a proof hound, but I think the ~115 proof is the sweet spot. To me, this even drinks less. I find myself drinking this like it’s 100
I just got one in the UK with a 10% discount for £99, for that money I think I got a steal, it’s delicious and I just walked into the store. Also I got a MM Cellar Aged also with the discount for £165, no queues, no camping. Dont get me wrong this never happens normally in UK, I just got the timing right.
New Sub, stumbled onto this b/c of the OF content. Couldnt agree more. OF is my go to - any/all of them.. If i had to pick my favorite - its tight but i prefer 1910 just slightly over 1920. That said, I did happen to randomly walk into a liquor store in SC and found a 1924 - Couldn't believe it and snatched it right up. Its outstanding - and its worth getting your hands on one if you're an OF'r like you seem to be.

I can go to total wine and find Smoke Wagon CS, JD single BP and BP Rye (not always but more now than last year), still Austin barrel proof, redbreast 15 cask strength, and EC BP are very common now. Also, Stagg jr had been my favorite for a long time but I won’t hunt it anymore. Everything I mentioned above is in the ballpark in terms of quality. My splurge buy is Joseph Magnus cigar blend at msrp. Pricey but awesome and findable
If you told me that Four Roses was going to add new mash bills, I would have bet on one of those being high malt like Chattanooga. How much different can the "even higher rye" turn out compared to the high rye mash bill they already produce? Also, why bother? Most people people can only find yellow lable, small batch, and the 100 proof SiB bottle that is ALWAYS the same mash bill.
People need to explore other distilleries there are a lot of good juice out there without the big name people are sucked in by Buffalo traces lure and hype along with heaven hills and wild turkey rise lol there is no bourbon for the plain man anymore we have to reach all the way down to the bottom shelf 😢
I've been collecting bottles of unopened bourbon since 1991 seeing the recent hike in Bourbon has blown me away I never would have thought back then that this would happen today and I agree with you as far as the distilleries they are getting out of hand it is not friendly anymore and I am starting to lean towards the non-American way they are taking advantage of the ding dong corn nut people that are paying thousands of dollars for bottles if they would just stop doing it and let them bottle sit on the shelves it would show them a lesson dent corn don't cost that much they keep throwing that dent corn and everything and throwing a $300 tag on it we all know they don't pay what we pay for our grains the whole thing is a scam and they are getting away with it.. PS I've never bought any pappy's after 2000
I have an OESO from put Big box local liquor store. You went over the graph, and i jumped up and look to see what I had lol. Usually get 4 or 5 picks throughout the year
I pretty much wrote off WTMK with the last price increase, but... The Cornerstone was the best rye I've ever tasted and I might pay for this new rye if I have the chance.
Sagamore is releasing a 9 yr this year. And their picks will be up to 8 yr old. I think their own distillate is fantastic and I’m excited when it’s being used in more releases. The 6 yr BiB is really good and their new small batch (bought at distillery) that’s 100% 4-6 sagamore distillate is fantastic especially for 35-40 bucks
@@DahBeers they've been having 8 year picks for a while. That's why I thought they might have some 10 year old stuff. Everything they put out is so good though.
@@lonewanderer3603 gotcha. When I was there a month ago. They said it’ll be sagamore 9 yr in lieu of the 8 yr release. And their own distillate is approaching 7 yr age. I’m not usually a finish guy but have loved their port and VDN
The Weller is going to be around the tune of 7k a bottle, Masters Keep has been throwing average at best whiskey and throwing it in a cardboard box and charging out the butt for it the last few years hard pass on it this year. I can get 10 year MGP rye for like 100 msrp in some cases.
