Hi! My name is Summer and I’m obsessed with knitting socks. I live in a cozy craftsman bungalow in Tulsa, Oklahoma with my husband Dave, our two teenagers, a dog who adores me, and a dog who seems to actively resent my very existence.
I’ve been knitting for almost 20 years, and designing sock knitting patterns since 2020. I LOVE color ~ finding surprising and delightful color stories is my favorite part of the design process! I’ve written a book about sock knitting too, which you can find in my shop, along with all my patterns!

So glad I found you. My father was raised in Tulsa, went to OU, and we lived in Norman for two years (he was an Air Force pilot stationed at Tinker at the time). Just knit my first sock! Bought your book and can't wait to knit a thousand more :).

Summer, please address your method for doing the SSK. It looks as though you are just moving the stitches back and forth between the needles without reorienting them. Am I seeing this incorrectly?
Have you ever done a heel flap and gusset heel on these? I think I prefer that type of heel but not sure how it would work out with the color work pattern.

I have timed myself. It takes me almost 3 minutes to knit a single round on a sock for me. I did the math, it takes me 7 hours to knit ONE sock. I don’t think anyone can EASILY knit 6 socks in 7 days. I absolutely love your socks!
thanks so much for this... I have shaky hands and I've struggled to even begin to figure out how to deal with double points and of course that has put a stop in me moving on in learning knitting. So excited to see an alternative to doing double points.

Colors are such a funny thing. Ad soon as you started knitting the leg with the dark burgundy color around the middle of the video I was like Nope! However, as a lover of all things purple I was hoping to see how that combo worked. I have a lot of time on my hands but I can’t imagine knitting on your time deadlines, it would make me extra anxious. Different strokes for different folks and all that, right? Glad it works for you.
I received my book last week and love it. But I have an embarrassing confession. 😬🫣😂 When flipping through the pages, I thought I saw a 🐸 on page 17 AND…I spent nearly a solid minute looking for the abbreviation page since I couldn’t figure out what DIE stood for ( page 25) and couldn’t fit “double pointed needles” into the letters. UNTIL…it dawned on me and I chuckled out loud nearly to the point of my weak bladder taking over. 😂 Anyways..love the book!! Thank you. ♥️
I had to laugh when you talked about getting too close to the camera, I’ve been hesitant to mention it! I move my iPad back a little sometimes. 😂 I love these socks - as soon as I finish some UFOs I’m going to watch your color work video and give them a try. Your book is supposed to arrive tomorrow and I’m very excited about that too.
Summer! This idea and the socks you showed are fantastic! I just signed up for the club, and bought a couple skeins of yarn...Heaven knows I don't need more yarn, but some of the colors you showcased were just too tempting! Thank you, I always enjoy your videos so much. :)
I have been binging your videos, I usually make the up socks with a forethought heel according to a Craftsy class that I have. But right now I’m knitting cuff down with short row heel. I’m looking forward to knit these socks with the heel flap and gusset. I’m sure it can’t be more difficult than the short row heel. I am bound and determined to learn the Kitchener stitch by heart. On another note, I always used to say that my youngest son didn’t start walking until he was eight years old, as he always hopped before that.
???? Summer, I need the best cotton yarn to knit socks. I am allergic to synthetics .. I can get by with Hedgehog with only 10 percent nylon ( my favorite indie dyer ) But need a good cotton yarn . It can have silk , bamboo wool, no rayon or tencel. Basically organic cotton yarn for socks that will hold up for decent wearing time. I joined your cuff club and am testing out cotton pure from purl soho. Doesn’t come in fingering so doing sport. Help if you have any good suggestions.
I just found your tutorials and I just want to say , Don't ever doubt yourself, you are so talented and most of all you're so cool. Your personality is so sweet and calm and then I see your nose ring and tatoo's! I just love you!
This was so interesting, and I have no desire to write a book. But I do want you to know that I bought both the paperback and the kindle version. The paperback just came today and I can’t wait to go through it, but I am knitting while watching this.
I listened to this post while knitting a sock and felt like I was sitting with a friend, chit chatting!! I did take a break and ran up to Barnes and Noble and bought your book!!!" The sock project", I can't wait to try a few of the recipe's!!!!
What a great podcast, I also love to knit socks, but I wash them n a lingerie bag and dry on a sweater rack. I learned the forethought heel and love it, but it was called an afterthought heel. 😅 I love the sweater, but the laughing was a bit much.
Hi. I just recently came upon your podcast while searching for sock instructions for the beginner and so glad I did. I purchased your book and the suggested plastic sock blockers in each size from Knit Picks and started reading your book. I've only knitted baby socks (awhile ago) and tried crocheting a pair for me in a sock-along, but couldn't understand it all and ended up just doing Sc all around (no cabling). Thanks for writing the book and sharing your expertise with us. Now I believe I can enjoy knitting socks. 😊
I just found your channel and subscribed. Your socks are so beautiful, and I love knitting socks. Can I block socks that have already been washed and dried? I know I have a blocker somewhere, just need to find it.
I love musicals :D Seven Brides for Seven Brothers & Phantom of the Opera make my day :D However my husband does not like them. He says it is unrealistic, that people don't randomly break into song and dance in life. I ask him how long he has been married to me, ROFL (Almost 30 years). Cause that is my every day :D
Great tips. I finished the 1st bonus pattern of the colorwork cuff socks. I love them. I cast on first the flower pattern using a different yarn. First pair was knit in size M using Malabrigo sock yarn. Second pattern, I used Patons Kroy yarn. It is so tight I can barely get it on my foot. I think I will put that sick in time out and try again using some drops Fabel yarn I have on hand. I think the Kroy yarn is heavier than a light fingering.

How do you handle the stitches that are slipped / lifted bars at the end of the round / beginning of next it feels like at BOR there will be a weird transition….i can’t seem to get my head around it .
Love this and having fun with these sock patterns, though I am a painfully slow knitter. Completely different random question- what yarn ball winder do you use to make such beautiful cakes? 😁
I LOVE your bangs! I have had bangs since I was a child and I can't be without them. But I also have the issue that if I don't deal with them as soon as I get out of the shower I have to style them or I have weird bangs.
