Sitting in the racing line on cold tires, riding the brake, touching the curb, and mashing the throttle. He definitely didn’t earn that car on a race driver salary that’s for sure. 😂 might want to try to do some autocross or track days across the street in a mr2 or mx5 before he totals his Ferrari.
I thought it was just rednecks making left turns, before becoming a strength coach for a Nascar team. We have dozens of mechanics & engineers, training simulators, sports psychologists, nutritionists, and us S & C coaches preparing for the races. If you're hesitant about going to race for fear it'll be boring: you couldn't be more wrong.
I have walked up Charlotte's bank. In-person, the banking at Bristol looks like a wall from the ground.... driven around Bristol, too... it's wild in a car. I saw Daytona's on a tour once. It's wild to think they drive it and at the speeds they do.
To the drivers it doesn't feel that steep at all since their momentum is holding them down, but it must be strange to look over and see you are dam near vertical.
I had the opportunity to do the overnight security, one race week.. And I too did the track crawl, on turn #1.. I think it was the Pepsi 400 re-do.. The year after the Daytona fires.. It's the small things in life that brought me happiness.. Wish I could remember the year.. (old age, lol)
@@DietDewTime when I was in intermediate/blue group i was on gy sc3 tw220 tires ran 1.34.5. In advanced group i put R7 slicks on and ran 1.32.9. You were rolling out there!
My mom took a tour of Talladega one time, in the banks at Talladega my mom said the tour van at least had to go 65 to 70 MPH so it wouldn’t topple over in those banked turns.
Solid laps! Best feedback I can give is to work on consistency with those braking markers you setup in your head, lessen riding the throttle on upshifts and getting the power down sooner on corner exit!
Looks like a great session. I was chuckling when you were showing the Camaro your nose in every corner. Your restraint was commendable. If I may ask, what are you piloting as your "chase" vehicle?
I was following my student the entire session in the novice group on purpose to video him on track. That group isn’t as situationally aware sometimes. My car is a 2017 Z06 Corvette.
Like those noobs are showing, it's really banked. So to anyone who still thinks Nascar is just driving in circles, try your hand in just changing lanes on a banking such as this!
I mean, I'm not a race car driver, so I wouldn't be able to do it in any circumstance. Physics however dictates it'd be easier when banked because I'm losing less traction. Designing a race course like this makes sense due to spectating, but it objectively makes it easier in terms of the base physics. That of course means that in any completion the speed is higher, so we have a new set of challenges, just specifically not the one you are bringing up.
Pretty close. I’ve found that during a cool down lap I have to do at least 60 MPH or you start to “lose altitude” on the high banks. And it does feel more comfortable at 75 on those cool down laps.
@@DietDewTime Must do at least 75 mph or unable to navigate the corners. I worked there 1996-2006 as part of the security/safety teams and I raced there a few times myself.
