For diet reference www.thetortoisetable.org.uk This app is not species specific, please don’t feed fruit to your Mediterranean or desert species tortoises.
For seeds and dried feeds from the safe list of the tortoise table visit richters.com Good growers- ribgrass plantain, greater plantain, chia, snapdragon, nasturtium, cornsalad
Not outside they would freeze It gets down to minus 50c here in winter I brumate in my heated garage at about 5c inside a Rubbermaid box to control temps
Not really they have tough enough tongues to deal with spikes and spines I’m also pushing upwards Filing is never ideal, it’s also unnecessary With a proper set up and diet i never have to file until it’s a rehome situation
This is so cute, I just found your channel and it has helped me out so much. I have been planning on getting a tortoise for a while now and was wondering what you think are the best foods I can grow for my tortoise.
Yeah I allway collect plantain purple nettles dandelions and leaves the list gos on been collecting weeds for over 5 years now allways do your research ❤
I see mosquito bits on the thumb nail but I didn't see how you prepared the bits and what you did to get rid of them. Could you explain a little more of your process? Loving the videos wish they were longer.
I’m so excited I discovered two more safe weeds in my back yard. Violet and geranium. I have been harvesting clover and dandelion for 4 years. Thank you for the reminder of TT
If home grown then they can be fed sparingly as part of a large diet If storebought I would avoid, their grown in fertilizers for human consumption. Doing more harm than good to a tortoises slow digestive tract
They naturally pyramid, but when they pyramid too much, then you know it’s the humidity . they can eat veggies, okra, green beans, zucchini, they can have fruit once a month. Humanity should be about 80% when their babies when they’re adults spraying down the environment is enough.
Why feed a comercial Product with just weeds and flowers and real natural food right out your door? Before feeding mazuri. Please read the ingredients and reference them to the tortoise table. You’ll see it’s full of preservatives and no feeds Happy foraging
When you had your nat problem, did you just use boiling hot water on the substrate every summer I seem to get that problem last year I put vinegar water and a little bit of detergent and a small cup in the corner of my Russians enclosure, and they were attracted to it, and got stuck in the suds it attracted a lot, but it didn’t solve my problem Soon after I got the worst fly infestation, I’m not even sure what to do so I’m asking was that just straight boiling water and did it take care of your nat problem
Chances are your keeping your soil too wet, you need to pick up poop and any excess food a bit more often Boiling water and then allowing things to fully dry out helps. Aswell as mosquito dunks (Amazon) help and don’t harm tortoises
@@Naturaltortoisekeepers oh thank you so much for the info. I clean the tortoise out and it’s bioactive but I’m gonna try those mosquito dunks and let it dry out. Thank you for the advice.
@@Naturaltortoisekeepers Spring tails and what we called roly-poly‘s or potato bugs I was told to put a cup of each, and they’re not seeming to do much
