I was in college in the 80s and sometimes I had to miss my favorite soap opera all my children. But I found that I could not watch it for weeks and when I did watch it, I could pick up exactly where I left off. That’s the beauty of the soap opera.
It must have been fun writing for Phoebe English Tyler Wallingford. There really were so few characters like that in television. Old lineage, old money American aristocracy. A woman of such class- driven social arrogance, completely blind to how the modern world saw her.
AMC, how can I not ‘bogart’ this collection, show my gratitude for the simple fact that it exists, something about the color red and, what else can I say about it? I love it, them, meaning, of course ‘All my children,’ and it’s like in “Friends” in that Gunther played Bryce on a soap” and yearbooks, boy do I love studying yearbooks in the way The Others enjoy reading the Encyclopedia, which of course, is ultimately about weather.
G: Not to be like..whatever, but AMC is, at least to me, something different. I am not suggesting that anyone be sitting at a computer complaining that things are not exactly as they remember; I am not saying that even one bit and certainly not at all but there should be a reason for a change. I don’t know what that means mathematically, relative to me or anything like that; I don’t have one single complaint. But, if I may explain. Specifically, in the scene in which Brooke is having lunch, I could have sworn she was having it with Nina, then Cliff comes around. I get why Devon is there, I get why Brooke is there and can I watch? sorry; might I be counted on to be trusted to watch and will I have to give up something and/or will anyone else? And furthermore, this confirms something for me, personally, which is that I love All My Children equally. Just call me ‘save all.’
How ironic to see Bo and Didi arguing with Delilah and four years later the three of them would be hostages together, fighting for their lives during the Faux Bo story.
I just realized if this were The UK Soap Opera Eastenders, they would have gotten cold busted and Larry would have kicked Liza to the curb. It was a semi sweet revenge when Marian & Liza found out that Larry left them broke. The Wife is always the last to know in those days. Mad Men with Pete's Family as well as in Flowers In The Attic.
My sister and I used to reenact that fight with Nina and Linda I just watched it after all these years and I can quote every word of it such great memories!
We used to play all my children as kids in the 80s And we would video tape our little dramas -I have a video of my sister as Dottie she holds a tub of ice cream on her lap and she's complaining about how miserable she is!
1984 two of my favourite actresses together. OH MY GOODNESS. Belle yells "Now look what ya done!" sounds like a quote straight from Misery (which wasn't until 6 years later).
Marcy Walker was so convincing as Liza Colby, that when she was in a Nighclub, two girls locked her in a Bathroom Stall and screamed at her to leave Jenny & Greg alone. Also can you imagine how hard it was for her when she said Jesse raped her and he didn't. I heard a story about guys who did 6 and 10 Years for Rape and they didn't do it. DNA wasn't around. One Lady was forgiven, the other lady was a College Student and she was scared at what her Parents would say so she lied.
This was that period of time (up to 1987) that the writers seemed to be trying out couples to see if there would be sparks, like Larry and Mimi, Rafe and Didi, Rafe and Delila, Woody and Connie, Brad and Cassie, Richard and Cassie, Richard and Tina, Asa and Dorian, Larry and Dorian, Larry and Pam or Rafe and Clover.
I find it hard to believe that anyone was rooting for Rafe and Didi to get together. Everyone I knew were rooting for Bo and Didi (I know I was). Then again, maybe Didi would have been better off sticking with Rafe, considering what happens to her a couple years later.
