I have lived other places and am now back in Oklahoma People are moving here bc low cost of living I would have never moved back if not for a family emergency It is a very closed society There are cliques that run the state Steeped in ignorance and if you aren't 'in' they will never let you succeed Which is really a sign of lack of emotional maturity by those in power The state is consistently top 10 for all social ills esp mental illness The culture creates it Poor, broken people are easier to manage
Edmond wouldn't be my choice. We're from LA and traveled all around the eastern half of the state and found Edmond to be one of the most overcrowded towns we visited. Kinda like Norman. To many people moving there, to much traffic, congestion, all the things we are trying to avoid. Edmond might be considered to be the top town for others to move to, but not for us. As far as tornadoes are concerned, there's nothing unique about Edmond that keeps tornadoes away. It's in the heart of tornado Alley and if Edmond hasn't had many tornadoes in recent years, it's only due to pure luck.
I moved to Oklahoma in December of 2023. I am ready to leave the state. This a poor state without a lot of opportunities. The pay is what I earned when I was in my 20. I am now in my 50. Cost of living isn't any better than where I came from
Heard on Hurd sounds interesting, but since I've slowly evolved into an agoraphobe, I would probably cheat myself out of enjoying it, especially if/when I see someone wearing a fluffy sweater...🤣
Don’t do it! We moved here two years ago and HATE IT. We are conservative, so it is not a political thing. The weather sucks, the taxes are very high, our utilities are high, the people are very rude. “ If you are not from here you are not welcome. “ - I’m from Idaho. I wasn’t a threat. I’m selling my house and am going back west. This is a nightmare. Also, I’ve seen a lot of Californians moving here. Good luck with that. They ruined Idaho.
I want to move to the area of Oklahoma where you will be least likely to find yourself sitting at a stoplight behind a car with a faded Biden/Harris bumper sticker on it.
We first moved from Arizona to Edmond, and enjoyed living in Edmond. Love the bronze statues located throughout downtown Edmond. We eventually moved to Norman and are very happy here too. Love this state. We’re originally from Illinois, needless to say Leftism destroyed that state, we love the conservative, peaceful way of life here. Illinoians my birth, Oklahomans by choice.
As a person who moved from Yukon Oklahoma to Europe, because of the politics in Ok, I will say the biggest differences are the very high rate of crime in Oklahoma, the very bad educational system and the general lack of things to do. Yes, you can go to the entertainment district, Bricktown. The only things you can do when you arrive are, get drunk, go to a low quality movie theater, eat bad food and get shot. Yes, stuff in Oklahoma is cheap, but incomes are very low. I have always viewed Oklahoma as the place where you go when you can't make it anyplace else. It's kind of the inverse of NYC. Instead of, "If you can make it there, you can make it anywhere. It's up to you New York New York!", it's "If you can't make it anywhere else, try Oklahoma. What do you have to lose?"
Yeah they're running the housing industry too by overbidding way too high racking up the prices of housing regular Oklahoma's can't afford it just pushing all the locals out to the street just so you can live in a new state I don't say this about everybody coming from California but most you rich assholes
I had die hard conservatives from the east coast to pack up and move out of Oklahoma it’s sooo bad here. Fortunately they had the money to do so. Once you settle into Oklahoma, you might not make it out…even to a decent conservative state like Texas or Florida.
Give the people from California a little break. Most areas outside the large cities of California are conservative. Its the large population centers that screw the demographics up. Why do think Northern California wants to break away to form a new state.
Reading the myriad comments here, there is an expectation gap which could be summed up between urban upbringing versus a rural or small town one. Take it from this simple lens, Oklahoma is a predominantly rural agricultural state with a small population and only one major non-ag industry - oil and gas. As a state it cannot compete as an economy of scale. Ag states cannot compete against industrialized states in terms of economics, and the population is more dispersed between rural and urban than other states. Currently, 94% of Californians live in urban areas, but only 59% in Oklahoma do. That changes the states ability to concentrate funding for services and changes voting outcomes by comparison. Rural states will never compete with coastal seaport states economically, so it is unreasonable to expect comparatively good funding to educator wages, and social and welfare services. As well, there cannot be diverse food and entertainment sectors without concentrated populations with sufficient wealth to support them. If you are looking to move to an economically limited rural state like Oklahoma then scale your expectations accordingly.
From what I see most commonly in Edmond/OKC, homeowners insurance hovers around 1%- 1.5%. There are a TON of factors that affect this so it’s not an exact percentage, but that’s usually the number I give people to help them figure out cost
I agree people here in Oklahoma are stupid the city it doesn’t matter which one or the government. If you ask them a question unless you ask the exact question you need answered there will be no suggestions. That will be no alternatives. Nothing they will not tell you, so you have to keep calling back on whatever you’re working on to ask each individual questions to find out the right answer and the work force and construction you got people that have no clue what they’re doing at all. And the ones that do know very little. Want a lot of money with no skills people this place sucks.
As someone who has lived in Oklahoma all my life. I am in different, on one hand I want people to be happy and enjoy our great state. However on the other hand I have watched as our state has been on a decline. Due to people that move here with different values. Often time people leaving states they have help ruin with politics and ideologies. For example, something as simple as holding the door open for someone and thanking them. That used to be common. Now It either does not happen at all, or just walks past you.
@@kccink I would say the population of any state would be mostly people born there. That does not change the fact that people are moving from poorly ran areas like California or New York, that have different values and customs than that of someone from Texas or Oklahoma. Heck even from Texas and Oklahoma there is a pretty big difference. If you review the comments below you can tell alot of people echo the same. Not saying we do not want people, just do not try and change what we have here. As that is what makes it special.
Everyone in the comments, are saying don't move here and bring your ideas with you. I on the other hand being born and raised in Oklahoma would love for some new outside ideas. Our state ranks in the bottom of almost everything and is only going backwards. So yeah, some new blood would be nice. Also the reason its getting warmer every year is global warming.
Oklahoma is a place that will test human talerence with the weather alone. It can become insainly hot to cold in a few hours out here. Also the allegences are on a whole another level when compared to other places. If you cant handle even this... Stay away.
