I have been fixing things my whole life. My dad's thoughts were "If you can't fix it, You don't need to own it". I try to live by this and fix anything I think I can make work again. Some times it works and sometimes it does not. Along the way I'll include videos of stuff I find interesting such as old equipment and farm stuff, but mostly just fixing power equipment and power sports machines.
I got a 2017. Not a single issue in 7 yrs. 4 stroke. Fuel injection. Liquid cooled. Perfect scooter. 9,053 miles. Starts in 2 seconds everytime. Cold rain or snow.❤
I’ve owned my 06 rancher for 18 years. Always took good care of it. It sat for 6 years. I never started it. Fuel was all drained out of it before I stored it. Got it out in 22, took a fathers and sons trip with a buddy of mine we use to do taking our sons when they were little. It started smoking badly near the end of that quad camping trip. Came home, shoved it back in the barn until 2 weeks ago. I just rehoned the cylinder, new rings, valve guide seals, lapped the valves anyways even though I didn’t think they needed it. Started it up for the first time last night. It smoked at first from oil coating I had on cylinder wall for the first ten mins. It finally stopped. Im gonna test drive it this evening for 30 mins to see how it goes.
I have one of these that i purchased around 2000 and it has done a serious amount of work! Quite amazing really for a 22cc engine, pretty much starts if you breathe on it. Gotta love the older honda machines.
Some great info regarding identifying worn parts that most other channels fail to mention! Just about due to do my 09 top end currently at 330 hours and this will be my fourth piston i'm hoping the rod is still within spec and i will check the cam chain tensioner for remaining travel using your method. Thanks for the tips.
Nice job straightening that bent crankshaft, Greg! When diagnosing crank no starts I always spray some 2-stroke fuel into the intake first. If it fires that eliminates 4 of the 5 requirements to run right off the bat (air, compression, timing, spark). The only thing left is fuel, which is at least 90% of the issues with no starts. Saves time and effort, plus if you don’t know how long an engine has been sitting, then adding a little oil into the cylinder is a good idea anyway.
I believe that engine is from a Coleman 4400 kW generator because I have one (generator) my dad left me and the paint is green and the engine is 8 hp and it looks just like yours.
This is such a great and informative video! I used this for my completely different bike (KLX230r) since the part number for forks seals are the same. I was looking for so long to figure out which direction the fork seals go and you explained it perfectly. Way better than the video I was watching that was for my specific bike lol
Installed those tie downs on the rear case guard bolt. I put wood blocks under the engine and tighten the bike down using 10" turnbuckles with jam nuts.
Hey there. Trying to fix my 20016 toro. I can’t seem to get the screws to mount carburetor to sit correctly. It’s the same step at the 11:30 mark. Any suggestions?
Great video. TY. Why do people spend hundreds on mowers and do not perform the necessary maintenance? Or spend hundreds on a new mower instead of repairing their current mower? I am guessing that repair is less expensive than replacement.
The Honda gold wing is actually the best motorcycle that was manufactured in the history of motorcycle manufacturing. You won't find a better bike period, I actually had argued with an idiot that said Harleys are better, I told him the Harleys are great boat anchors.
I've gotta give you a shout out, but for an entirely different reason not at all related to this video. In some weird, boneheaded way, the drawstring of my sweatpants got sucked into my blower fan (If you can see the visual, imagine a leaf blower hanging on to my pants, near my crotch. Definitely a story to tell at parties. LOL!). After I cut the string, I had no clue how to get it out. I got a $75 quote from a local small engine repair shop, which I thought was insane. I've been looking all over the place for a simple DIY, and watching your video gave me the confidence to do this simple repair. Now my blower works as good as new!
Im wondering how this new carb is working out for you 2 years later? I have an 81 gl1100 interstate i am cleaning up and putting back to 1981 brand new condition and want to get a second one and would maybe do this conversion. Thanks for the videos!
Awesome video! Everything looks simple except for one thing. How did you get the spring compressed and get the snap ring back in place? I have progressive springs in mine which will be even more stiff. Thank you for the video!
Excellent video my friend. My father has a similar model that is due for some maintenance soon, and now we can do it ourselves. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and experience with us.
The weak spot of these engines isnt the engine it the horrible Walboro carbs they are fitted with ! I hjave never seen such dirt sensitive carbs in my 50 years of working on mowers and other small engines !
