Great band, one of my classic rock favorites. But, I'm surprised you weren't given Frankenstein as the first song to get you going on them. They were music geniuses, and their influence does spread far and wide.
I am 52 yrs,..an original old school thrash metal head,..I love acoustic,no distortion is great listening..Romain is a great amazing talent, has a good bag of skills
I get why you feel as you do about this version. Haley takes some different feelings from the song. Thom Yorke projects mostly dull despair and hopelessness. Haley projects passion, self-loathing at times and anger at how she feels about herself. But I think it's fine for any cover to be different provided it makes sense. A big contrast to the original but yet her rendition also fits the meaning of the lyrics perfectly well. I never heard of Radiohead or "Creep" until I heard Haley's version, and then looked up the original. It never meant anything to me so I came to Haley's version and was blown away by what she was doing with it. In any case for me sheer overall musicality usually trumps all else. I'm also far more a jazz fan than a pop fan. Good reasons for me to prefer Haley's version. However, I do appreciate that the original meant a lot to a lot of people. An original can stir up strong associations and feelings from the past, a kind of nostalgia almost. Haley has a different take on it.
A very good introduction tune/video would be 'Power' very catchy tune and easy to follow lyrics that tells some of Ren's story, also done in a car and you get to see his cinematographer/videographer driving, Samuel Perry-Falvey. What I want to know is how they did that smooth pass through the closed rear door open window.
Watched this again just for the fun of seeing you watch it for the first time! My hubs is an old metal head too and it blew his socks off as well. He was like this is ren?? 😂❤
I've discovered SO MANY musicians decades late....you're not alone. I've been aware of the Edgar Winters Group for a long time, but I have definitely not given the proper investigation into their music. Thanks for this! FYI, both Edgar and Johnny are (were) Native Texans :)
Some polyphia would be banging on this channel! Much love brotha! Great fricken song! Volumes is pretty fire acacia strain some more Lorna shoreeeeee. Let’s goooooo bb
You should find a couple people to bring on and introduce them to Ren if they’ve never heard of him. Maybe some band members! I think that could be some good content as well getting there perspective on him!
I forgot her name but she screams in this as well at some point which is wild because I thought is was Electric Callboy! Babymetal definitely has some bangers. Kingslayer is a song they do with Bring me The Horizon and it’s fricken awesome! Should check it out if you haven’t yet!
Romain on guitar really stood out to me on the first Big Push video I watched. On a recent live Q & A, Romain was showing us a new guitar (a blue one) that I believe was given to him by the company that makes it. He was really excited about all the features on it and did talk a bit about the black guitar that he refers to as "The Big Push guitar." If you ever get a chance to check out one of his livestreams you should, they are always interesting.
Romain plays the guitar and sings with the same melancholy of Chet Baker, even when he is playing the faster stuff for the big push, there is always the melancholy of a tortured soul in his playing, let's hope he goes on to a ripe old age unlike Chet RIP.
I'm no expert on guitar players etc. but I think the guy is very good? For me, it's a big shame that the Big Push didn't stay together? Individually they are great. Together they really could have been awesome.
Being a metal guy you would love the Edgar Winter group, Frankenstein. Fits in a genre called monster rock. It's pure instrumental. Johnny Winter was a celebrated blues guitarist in the nineties.
This is the most poppy thing Babymetal has ever done. If you seen them a few years back you might want to see how they've matured, now in their 20's they have been a group for 14 years, more than half their life. They run the whole gamut of metal sub genres with the band laying down some of the most crushing metal there is.
You asked in one video (don't remember, which) good reactors you could support and lift up by mentioning them. I have 2 suggestions: a real good analyzer of lyrics and musical ability to touch Nuclear reactions ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-XkNSwfUF3KE.htmlsi=x1Ycop8WIiC_fw-E
Sorry for all your recent troubles and hope it's smooth sailing now ❤ Interesting that people are more comfortable with a song about murder than they are about self reflection 🤔 Such a strange world we live in
Hey Old Metalhead, great reaction. You have a lot of good suggestions for Babymetal songs to look at, so I won't go there. However, I have to say that you will understand them better in their own space, not so much a collaboration. Has Babymetal toured in Australia, you ask? Yes, the last time was in 2023 as part of their world tour for The Other One album release. I was fortunate enough to see them in Brisbane on that tour and, whilst the show was scaled down in lighting, stage and effects from their massive Japanese concerts, I felt the 3,500 crowd at the Brisbane show was far more intimate. I was on a balcony and would have been 30 to 40 feet from the stage. I had an unimpeded view for the entire show of all members of the band and Babymetal out front. I reckon that the sound of the band, and the performance of the girls was as good as the big Japanese shows. In fact, I think I prefer this intimacy more. They also played in Sydney and Melbourne on this tour. Babymetal aren't your normal metal band, and that is the reason why they have millions of fans worldwide; they are different. A lot of older metal fans recoil at them because they don't fit their idea of what a metal band is. Often, reactors suggest that Babymetal should do the things that other bands do; but this would just make them like all the other bands. However, Babymetal has not followed a traditional musical path and remain true to their task of embracing difference and to their goal of enticing new fans to the metal genre with their crossover and inclusive style. I hope you will check them out more. It won't impact me if you don't, however, if you keep an open mind, I reckon it will be a positive influence on your RU-vid musical journey.
It's fun. Music hasn't been fun for awhile. I like people who are clever with lyrics and videos. EC take their musicianship very seriously, themselves, not so much. In that respect, The Darkness does the same. Funny as hell. Great musicians.
Always funny to see someone seeing BabyMetal for the first time. If you had any idea how phenomenal successful BabyMetal have been for the last ten years, you would need to be sitting down. 😀 BabyMetal is a Japanese band and Electric Callboy are a German band. They both mange to sing in English very well.
The guitar? Ren did a short... opening a present, a guitar that was gifted/mailed to him by some well known musician/band. He was very emotional over receiving such a gift from said person. I forgot who.
I just checked the unboxing video you mentioned, as I thought the Verve guitarist gave him that bass, but the Verve bassist gave him a guitar with a similar colour, after he did the Bittersweet Symphony retake.
