Just want to say a huge thank you to all the Nightwish fans who have commented with thoughtful and understanding reactions to this video. I was very worried that I would receive a lot of hate for being honest in my reaction ( And this video has received the most dislikes of any of my videos so far, so I wasn't completely wrong haha) and was on the fence about if I was even going to post the video. I am not going to lie to the people who watch my videos claiming to love something I don't just to get more likes and subs. The band and you guys deserve better than that. also I am glad it has been mentioned by a few people that at no point did I disrespect the band at all, if at anywhere, the disconnect is at my end Nothing but love and respect for the band and will 100% be checking out more of their work
I have watched a lot of reaction-videos, almost all are Nightwish, the band I learned to love two years ago. I have wondered that how can so many reactors just love everything they hear. In my mind that can't be like that, so... honest is great. I don't false reactions. I am disappointed you didn't likd this awesome band and this awesome song, but at least you were hänestä, and you mentioned them to be great musicions, what they are. Nothing wromg with your reaction. Hoped you have liked them more, but everyone can't love everything
Nightwish are a band who do short and heavy to long and symphonic epics. Have a look to The Greatest Show On Earth at Tampere or Wembley 2015 shows. Long Epic masterfully put together piece. Might not be your thing but just have a look anyways.
Hello Old Man Metal Dude ! Nightwish fan here, your musical quest summoned me. Welcome [BACK] to the world of symphonic metal! And thank you for checking this legendary band! This live recording is from Wacken Open Air 2013, together with Floor Jansen [pronounced Yansen], the 3rd and present female singer of the band, in front of an 82K audience. About the instrumental and vocal added parts - it's good to know they recorded their orchestral and vocal back tracks with prestigious institutions as London Philharmonic Orchestra. London's The Metro Voices choir group and London's Young Musicians Children's Choir as their regular partners. Since this is your first Nightwish reaction, it is my duty to give you the [updated] short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan who has since passed away (and I am doing this in her memory): " Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer. They are from Finland. Tuomas Holopainen [pronounced Tuo-mas], the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. [Sami Vanska was the bassist of the band starting with their 2nd studio album, he was with them until 2001. Then Marco Hietala was bassist and vocals, since 2001 to 2020. He recently announced his retirement both from the band and the public life for the next year at least. Then in May 2021 Jukka Koskinen [pronounced Yukka] became the bassist of the band, for the Human :II: Nature tour - and recently, the band announced he became a permanent member] And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen [he also recorded the bass lines for their 1st studio album]. Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrumentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen [pronounced Yukka] is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition. Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen [pronounced Tarr-ya] (Operatic vocals). She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile) - you just heard her. There are live concerts that you should use depending on what era. From Wishes to Eternity and End of an Era (Tarja), Montreux Festival live 2012 and Exit Festival (Anette), Live at Wacken 2013, Live at Wembley, Live at Tampere, Vehicle of Spirit, Decades live (Floor). I hope this helps. I want to welcome you to the Nightwish community. I hope you like them enough to continue the journey. Believe me Nightwish will surprise you with their songs. You will never know what to expect. They are unbelievable live. I want to warn you that Nightwish fans are hard core. So be prepared. lol " For an extended set of suggestion (with links), I posted 2 huge comments in the community tab in my main YT channel [since the links are blocked here, you should check for yourself..] 🤘
Thank you for your comment, so far the majority of the feedback has been very positive which has definitely made me want to listen to more of the bands music. A few of the bands I count among my favourites now, I didn't click with at first, so I am definitely not giving up on Nightwish if they can build this kind of passionate but still understanding community of fans
@@oldmanmetaldude Nightwish's music is a melange of genres, in which you will find metal, folk, pop, rock, opera, even jazz. Orchestral and choral components. No 2 songs are alike. Historically, the 3 female singers have completely different voices and styles. What unites this ensemble is the inspired composition of Tuomas Holopainen, considered by many to be a musical genius of these times. Naturally, the fandom component reflects this diversity, from metalheads to lovers of classical music, pop and rock. Certainly, in this true musical universe you will find songs that you will love, songs that you will appreciate (like this one) and songs that will not arouse your interest. it's all about continuing to explore and keep giving us your honest feedback. As a sign of respect and encouragement, you have a new subscriber here.🤘👍
I promise that my feedback will be 100% honest every time. Even my favourite artists have songs, even entire albums I dont like. As thanks for the positive and respectful feedback from a majority of the NW fans on this video, I am going to skip the line and do a video for Romanticide tonight ( and possibly the High Hopes cover lin the next few days) and will likely do it with no pauses to appreciate it fully. Cheers
Thank you for the reaction. I think you'd like more Romantide and Song of Myself staff. 🙂 My all time favorite is Master Passion Greed. Never played live and angriest song they have, so I get your point.
I am like you fella’ Symphonic Metal is hard for me to get into. Nightwish do have some real bangers, Romanticide is one, Song of myself, is another, and probably another dozen I have not mentioned. Floor live, is an unstoppable beast!
Marko is playing a Warwick Buzzard bass, Emppu is playing his own signature ESP EV1, Jukka is indeed on a Tama kit and Tuomas plays Korg keyboards. Floor sings whatever the fuck she wants!
You're wearing a Floyd shirt, so I recommend listening to Nightwish's live cover of them doing Floyd's High Hopes, which features the bass player Marko's awesome singing.
Thank you for that reaction. I think that we of the Nightwish Army recognize that, as much as we love this band, there are going to be people with whom it doesn't resonate and we can respect that. I liked the fact that, even if you didn't care for the genre, you recognized and appreciated the fact that this is a band of extremely talented musicians. Best to you.
"Didn't click." Fair enough. Everyone's got things that hit home, and other things that just don't resonate, and that's OK. This is one of Nightwish's more symphonic tracks, but their catalog covers a lot of stylistic ground, all the way from folk metal to power metal. Don't give up on them until you've heard them perform "Romanticide" and/or "Yours is an Empty Hope". BTW, good call on Empuu Vuorinen's guitar; it's an ESP EV1, custom made just for him. And Marco's bass is a Warwick (the Vampire, if I'm not mistaken).
This whole concert is gold. Try Romanticide from the same Wacken 2013 live show. Floor and bass player Marco sing that one and it’s a bit harder metal than Ghost Love Score. Enjoy!
Nightwish Army- Canada welcomes you! I am 72 still have Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd on my playlist from way back, now this group have joined them. Thank you sir for reacting to Nightwish, the entire concert at Wacken in on RU-vid many of the songs solo as well. I hope to see you react to more of their music. Other Nightwish Army members will be along shortly "Gabriel" will fill you in on song list and the history, I will watch for your next Nightwish reaction.
An honest review. I respect that. Although this is probably one of their most popular songs at the moment, and one that is usually an introductory song to the band - it's not representative of the bands varied catalogue. Please give them another chance with another song (of which you'll get plenty of suggestions, I'm sure). Good reaction!
Ghost Love Score is suggested because it shows some of the depth of ability of Floor Jansen compared to previous singers. For something more metal with bassist Marko (Warwick bass) singing too try Romanticide at this concert Wacken 2013.
Enjoyed your honest and intelligent reaction. Your memory about Revamp is not wrong. Revamp was Floor's second band, created by her after her first band, After Forever, fall apart for a number of reasons. Due to professional and personal reasons Floor was in a dark and angry place at that time and so much of Revamp's music, which she wrote, is angry and aggressive. Other's have mentioned some other great Nightwish songs which might be more to your liking. Here's to hoping you continue exploring one of my favorite bands.
When you want to go further on the path of our 1.83m (6ft.+) tall Dutch Valkyrie Queen Floor Jansen besides Nightwish, here is some background information on the best and most versitale female singer of our time. Floor joined the band 'After Forever' in 1997 at the age of 16. Here are some of my favourites: ‘Energize me’; Monolith of Doubt’ and Dreamflight’. Floor attended the then new Rock Academy in 1999 and graduated in 2003. She also studied 2 years at the Conservatory (1 year Music Theatre and 1 year Opera). 'After Forever' disbanded in 2009 and Floor started her own band 'Revamp' from scratch. Here she experimented with different vocal styles within one song from full operatic to death growls in seconds. Here are some examples: ‘Misery’s no Crime’, ‘Wild card’ and ‘Disdain’. Besides managing a band on her own she also did a lot of vocal coaching and as she is a perfectionist, she wants to do everything at 100%+. Eventually she had to pay the price and got a burnout. She had just recovered when end of september 2012 the call came from Nightwish to fill in for the remainder of the North American Tour at first as their second singer Annette got ill. Floor had just 48 hours to learn the whole setlist. There is a documentary made of this world tour: ‘Please learn the setlist in 48 hours’ Floor joined Nightwish after this iconic Wacken concert in 2013 as permanent member of the band. Floor continued to perform with 'Revamp’ also, but it was clear that she could not combine the two for much longer, so 'Revamp' disbanded in 2016. Floor did a side project called 'Northward' where she dived into the Hard Rock scene. The song 'While Love Died is a must see. Her stunning performances on the Dutch TV show 'Beste Zangers 2019' gave her at last some more recognition in her home country where she was relatively unknown until then. There are numerous guest appearances with other bands to find on RU-vid. To see how to get a crowd of metalheads silenced and in awe watch her featuring with the band 'Epica' and the song 'Stabat Mater Dolorosa’ and to see her in full opera mode, watch her rendition of 'O Mio Babbino Caro' from Puccini. As live concerts were cancelled and home isolation due to the Covid situation, Floor discovered RU-vid in these years. Mindblowing covers, chats with her idols and other singers, vocal masterclasses, personal insights and so much more. She even made a video reacting to herself singing Ghost Love Score at Wacken. Lots of technical info and some memories of her starting with Nightwish. Also her Fan Friday videos are hilarious. Just unpack some of these and other presents she left on her channel. Also videos of her solotour she did with songs of her impressive career. Her latest endeavour is her stunning solo album ‘My Paragon. Floor is a high sensitive person, so peace and quiet is as important for her. Living by the woods in Sweden with her husband Hannes Van Dahl (drummer of the band Sabaton), daughters Freja (turned 7 years this march) and Lucy (born last october) ,a couple of horses, dogs and cats, she found this.
We all have our own taste, that's why there is so much different things out there. Thx for checking it out though! Greetings from Finland! 🤘🎶 🖤 🎸🇫🇮 Respect!
Yes this one is a ‘Score’. So it has a musical interlude. You will probably enjoy: - Romantacide - Song of Myself - Devil &. The Deep Dark Ocean - 7 Days to The Wolves - Slaying the Dreamer - Weak Fantasy - Yours is an Empty Hope (Wembley Arena). - Master Passion Greed - Tribal - Pan You will enjoy these talented musicians & Floor is incredible. Keep going - you will enjoy!!
Props to the band, orchestra, choir and, of course, Floor for this unbelievable performance........this is an incredibly difficult score to perform........the "OH-Oh-Oh" rhythm by the band at the start (and repeated vocally by Floor later) reminds me of the classical piece "Carmina Burana".....given Floor's training, this is a cool 'call back'........again, she gives us "multiple Floorgasms"!
Nightwish fan here. Greetings from Portugal. Enjoy the best symphonic metal band with the best female singer currently alive. It's natural that you don't like this genre of music, not every people will like it, and we, the band's Fans, have to recognize that, but at least you understand that they are all fantastic musicians. As Floor always says...give them a chance. Listen to "ROMANTICIDE" or "Devil and the Deep Dark Ocean". We are all METAL.
Excellent reaction! A good honest reaction. You obviously know your stuff and know what you like. But, I wouldn’t judge them on this performance alone. This is more at the symphonic end of their spectrum. Give “Romanticide” from the same concert a listen and you will see a different side to them. I hope you will give them another chance. Greetings from the UK.🇬🇧
Pink Floyd t-shirt and a Nightwish reaction!!? Have you seen the Nightwish live tribute version of Pink Floyd's "High Hopes"!!!? (performed about the time GLS was being composed, 2004!) The guys are formidable and consummate musicians on their own - even without a Goddess on lead vocals! Stay tuned for Gabriel Bardac's comment - lists almost all you need to see and hear! Marko has a Warwick Vampyre bass. Wait 'til you see "The Beast"! Emppu has a purple ESP EV-1 (Emppu Vuorninen is his name). He used to play a white Nuno Bettencourt and can shred when the music requires it (see "Romanticide" from this Wacken gig). Jukka has Paiste cymbals - they survived this gig (just) - not sure about the drums! Tuomas uses a Korg or two, up to three, behind that GOT surround with all the pipes (used to shoot pyro.). You ain't old! Horses for courses - at least you tried! After 572 days on tour - this is 110%! Nightwish Army, Blue Mountains Corps, Australia. Nightwish since 1996.
I have it saved to check out soon, though, to be perfectly honest I am not a huge fan of the post Waters Floyd stuff ( On the turning away being an exception - its amazing) so am not very familiar with High Hopes
The big difference is symphonic metal bands take a metal song and perform it in a symphonic style. Nightwish starts with a symphonic score and performes it in a metal style. Tons of key and tempo changes, solos that enhance the song and of course Floor's ability to color almost every syllable. They are quite unique even within their genre.
It's a Warrick Buzzard. It was designed by John Entwistle from the Who. Marco Heitala, the bass player, is endorsed by Warrick. Speaking of Devin, Floor sang on one of his songs, I can't remember which one, though. Marco is considered the father of metal in Finland. They definitely started you off on the wrong song if you like it heavy. You should try Romantcide, Song of Myself or Devil and the Deep Dark Ocean. They are heavier and contain Marco singing also. You will really appreciate his voice.
This is the 13th song of a 15 song set , stamina is amazing shout out to the drummer . However into a guitar led bands my fav band is Floyd since i was 10yrs old when my dad bought me Meddle for my birthday , seen them twice The Wall tour and Pulse tour both in London . Also into Led Zep , Deep Purple, AC/DC , Black Sabbath , Guns n Roses , Metallica . Just love her voice and the drummer this concert is very good
Nice reaction, and nice to hear you are honest about not having a click with what you hear. You cannot be in love with every tune your hear, so no hard feelings. At least you tried...
Singers sing what they can, Floor Jansen sings what she wants ❤once she sang the phonebook in a Dutch radioshow ❤and It sound like a real song ❤her voice just touch your soul and grab your heart ❤she is one of a kind ❤our Valkyrie queen ❤
I subbed your channel for Ren but in my RU-vid discovery process during the pandemic Nightwish was the first band I discovered and fell in love with them. They started in 1996 and have been through 3 lead singers. The most recent who started around late 2012 or early 2013 is Floor Jansen (Yansen). She’s incredible. They’ve also been through 3 bassists and 2 drummers. Tuomas the keyboardist is the founder and writer and composer. Empuu is the guitarist from the start. The band is great and this whole Wacken 2013 set is amazing. Enjoy the Nightwish journey as you have the Ren journey.
Originally Floor was sent by Allfather Odhinn to Midgard to gather the souls of fallen warriors to Valhalla, but she got distracted and joined a series of bands. However, Floor still gathers souls by her grace, beauty and the sheer power of her vocals. We give thanks for her at our Blots regularly and hope that Odhinn won't notice that she has never returned to Asgard. ALL HAIL THE VALKYRIE GODDESS!!! The Nightwish Army is incoming! You're not ready! Nightwish Army Gulf Coast Florida Black Company reporting for duty!
Marko the bassist is also a great vocalist and adds harmonies and shares lead vocals on several songs. He plays Warwick basses. He uses several different models and also a double neck bass/guitar. This song is obviously all about the complex compositions and vocal melodies. Maybe check out some of their heavier songs if that is your style. How about "Romanticide" from this same show?
High metal dude, listen i am 70 years of age but i was brought up with Black Sabbath, Led Zepplin, Ten Years after, i could name scores & scores of heavy metal bands i have seen when these bands wasn't known to anybody. Great little place in GB, England, Erdington, Birmingham, Check it out as 1 of the best music clubs in the world and only held up to 500 people. Anyway. Carry on your great reactions, GB, England, Birmingham, Peaky Blinders Country. PS Nightwish is Great.................
👍Hey man, honest reaction, i ,and i think a lot of Nightwish fans ,apreciate honesty,we all have our preferences and even in de Nightwish community there are (to say the least) some different opinions about, especcially ,the different female singers☺. But ,you" re totally right, stylisticly maby not your "cup of tea"but you can recognise the craftmanship of this group of musicians. Nightwish has a very diverse repertoire and i'm shure ,some fan's here ,will give you some heavyer songs by them,so, i hope you listen to some more Nightwish. Cheers mate.🤘
Greetings from Finland! Glad you reacted to this, even though it wasn’t your cup of tea. Everything just can’t be. But I’d be glad if you could try another song, great suggestions already in the comments. I am for High Hopes, noticing your T-shirt. 😁
There are so many different Nightwish songs you may like. Please try Tribal (lyric video or live) from their latest album. Devil and the deep dark ocean live at Buenos Aires 2018 Yours is an empty hope live at Wembley 2015 Weak fantasy live at Tampere 2015 I suggest also Dark chest of wonders and Romanticide Wacken 2013
Emppu (guitar) plays his signature ESP EV1 (EV is his initials, Emppu Vuorinen). And he only plays what´s needed for the song. He is no show off at all. Hahahahaha
ReVamp was heavier than Nightwish or her previous band After forever. Something went wrong back then and it made her angry. The European singers mix more classical singing into their technique. That's what makes this kind of power. They often miss blues and soul because it's not part of their tradition. The interlude here is extreme, even for Nightwish. It's okay if you say: It's good, but it's not for me. There are different Symphonics, with different concepts: With a growler and singer: EPICA - Consign To Oblivion - Live at the Zenith (OFFICIAL VIDEO) ELEINE - We Are Legion (OFFICIAL VIDEO) The poppier version: Within Temptation - Bleed Out (official music video) The Gothic version: Blackbriar - Mortal Remains (Official Music Video)
I'm a big Nightwish and Floor fan and have seen many reviews. None I found as honest as yours. Even though we have different tastes in music, kudos to you!
As a fan of Nightwish, I tend to struggle to connect with Ghost Love Score too. It's a good piece to showcase their talent, which is probably the reason it's the first one every recommends. Don't write them off because you don't connect to that song though. I'd recommend you try Romanticide, Yours is an Empty Hope, or Song of Myself as songs that might impress you more. The bassist Marco sings harmy with Floor, and alone in all of those.
Hey man...good reaction. I think the Nightwish army would like to convert everyone, but to each his own. I will say this is probably the exact wrong song to start with for someone in your position. If you do further reactions, stick with Wacken 2013, but you'll have better results with "Romanticide" or "Ghost River"
This band is amazing.. especially with Floor Jansen. She's a goddess. Like su metal of babymetal. Which you should check out turk. Rondo of nightmare live, or road of resistance live in Japan. Absolutely mind bending show. Nightwish and babymetal gotta have the best shows on the planet right now. And the band: One ok rock is amazing too. Check out "we are live"
Ghost Love Score is the right place for almost everyone to start with Nightwish. Not you. The right place for you to start is Romanticide, same concert. Trust me. There is a very very music theory grounded reason that when you stopped , sort of frustrated before the close, you were frustrated and not feeling connected. Especially since you're a musician. This song doesn't have a proper Resolution until aost seconds after you paused to express displeasure the last time. And then it does. And check your reaction when the notes properly resolve to the 7th as they're supposed to for the final section of the song. Immediate relief when the first proper Resolution happens, then when she absolutely NUKES that A#/G ♭ 5 at the end which is an absolutly proper Resolution to the phrase (Beethoven was famous for this) your heart explodes out and you can't help but yell YES!!! (Which you did) Check out Romanticide. I promise it's more your speed. But when you have a chance give this another listen . There will come a time that you won't even want to fast forward through the interlude
I think you have highlighted for me a big problem with the way that doing reaction videos forces me to pause a video to talk about things affects the flow of the music, something that I had started to realise myself after I recorded this video. I am considering doing a series of videos at some point where I give a retrospective look at tracks I didn't react to positively the first time. I'll definitely check out Romanticide too
Nice reaction man. Your T shirt gives me the idea you like/love Pink Floyd. If so, try High Hopes by Nightwish. Think you will like it because it's not just a cover but an ultimate tribute from an exceptional band to an exceptional band. Says a life long fan of Pink Floyd (69 y old Dutch bloke)
I think "Your's is an Empty Hope" live Wembley 2015 would be more your style and gives you a side of Floor you'll remember from revamp days. Cheers from a fellow Aussie. 🤘😎🤘
Appreciate you respectful honesty. All I'd say is that Nightwish is one of the most varied and versatile bands I've heard. Before you give up on them, try Yours is an Empty Hope (Wembley version) and/or Romanticide (Wacken) which are much more aggressive with dirtier driving riffs and multiple vocalists.
About the "organ/pipes" it is of course decoration to hide his triple Korg keyboards. Nightwish is finnish Tuomas the keyboard Player once said it was a Tribute to the Finnish violist and composer Jan Sibelius and to his monument in the finnish capital Helsinki, 600+ decorated steel pipes . ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-UbWb-zy85cc.html Knowing Tuomas, there is always a meaning behind everything.
It’sremarkable that the reactor knows Floor from ReVamp and did not hear Nightwish😀 In her early days Floor was fan of Anneke van Giersbergen with her band The Gathering. Other fantastic singers from the Netherlands are Simone Simons of Epica, Sharon den Adel ( Within Temptation), Charlotte Wessels, Dianne van Giersbergen, Marcela Bovia and Zora Cock. I would say…..to do some research . Greetings from the Netherlands . Bye the way…nice reaction
If its a band who I have not heard before I like to go in blind for the first song, after that I'll look into their history. And I knew of Revamp after hearing them on a podcast many many years ago
@@oldmanmetaldude Thx for your answer. You will like Floor’s first band After Forever, more metal for you. And….you will like Romanticide of Nightwish ( more heavy).
@@pietkeizer5279 I'll have check out After Forever, and as thanks for a majority of the comments today being positive, I am going to do a video for Romanticide tonight
Thanks you for your honest reaction. We all have our own taste also in metal, what is your favorite genre in metal? You wanted to know if there is a male singing, yes thats Marco check out there song Romanticide meaby you wil enjoy that one more. Greetings from the Netherlands 🤘
Another unbelievable voice in this world - please react to "DIMASH KUDAIBERGEN" SINGING OGNI PIETRA FROM THE ARNAU CONCERT ON HIS OWN CHANNEL. Maybe - it's not your cup of tea musically🤔 but this guy has an 7 octave range and he is trained since the age of 5 years old. Never heard a voice like this. Guy is from Kazakhstan, sings in multiple languages and genres. Will be interesting what you think about it. All the best from Germany 🇩🇪 Petra
I normally think you're bang on with your reactions but not this time. And, yes you're right, that we don't all click with the same things, but I think you owe it to yourself to try more Nightwish. Give Romanticide from the same show as this or Yours is an Empty Hope a listen to hear the heavier side of this amazing band and, frankly incredible, singer. They might suit your taste more.
NW supports reactions so no worries about copyright issues, for heavier songs from this amazing 15song headlining set are : Romanticide, Song Of MySelf, EverDream,Ghost River
unfortunately not all artist feel the same, and even then, it is often the Label not the Artists who copyright nuke reaction videos and i'd rather not risk the months of work I have put into the channel so far
@@oldmanmetaldude well, I understand, but, since NW is the most reacted to band ever on YT with an average of 30 reactions a day,and a great many reactors have done them without a single pause I'd say you have nothing to worry about :) cheers
@@nicod1361 I definitely think they would work better without a pause for sure. I have not watched other reactors videos of them as then I would not be able to give an authentic first time reaction. will definitely keep this in mind for my next one though. cheers
As someone who generally prefers a bit more "metal" in my metal, what I have grown to appreciate about Nightwish is, oddly enough, their "poppier" material. I feel like they really shine when the songwriting is more concise and tight. I even prefer it to their "heavy" tracks. I see on the sidebar that you've already posted Romanticide, which I'll be heading over to, and is a banger for sure and a great introduction to Marko. But I think you might really dig Storytime and Ghost River. Ghost River, specifically, has a great almost 80s Van Halen kind of thing going on and fantastic back & forth between Marko and Floor. An underrated gem, especially in the reaction community. If you continue down the trail I think you'll find that the one thing that really sets them apart is that there is truly something for everyone without ever being watered down or forced. Symphonic and/or prog stuff really isn't my jam, generally speaking, and never will be, but there definitely is something special about Nightwish, particularly this lineup. Even if you've "heard it all before" they still absolutely shine through and I'm bummed I never got to see them, especially with Jukka and Marko. 🤘🔥🤘
I see your wearing a Pink Floyd T. You should see their tribute to High Hopes, live version. Bass player is the one that sings it. Personally, and many others have said, it's as good or better than the original. David Gilmour approved. Long interlude because this song is actually a score. EVERY song is different, this was the wrong one for you..
Honest reaction, thank you! Way better than pretending things. But it won't be so easy for you to do away with Nightwish 😀 Based on what you were saying about your preferences, I would suggest "Ghost River", also from Wacken 2013. Less symphonic, male and female contrasting back and forth, a bit more straight forward and you even get to hear Floor growl a bit. Based on your t-shirt I would suggest "High Hopes" from 2005, a tribute to Pink Floyd's original. Only Marco (the bassist) is singing on this one - and he really gets to shine.
If anything, the responses for this video so far have shown me how passionate but understanding their fans are and that is the kind of community I love so Ill 100% be giving more of their work a listen, and will even revisit this song with a fresh understanding later on
@@oldmanmetaldude possible, that it will "click" after a few more listenings 🙂 It is fascinating how different brains can be wired - not just concerning music. For me this song at first was too much all over the place. But being part of my playlist, at a certain point knowing it better, I couldn't stop listening to it. For about two weeks (!) it was the ONLY song on my playlist - repeating maybe a couple 100 times in a row and not getting old. But "High Hopes", I'm sure, will click immediately.
Marko (bass guitar) also does vocals in Nightwish. But he left Nightish not long ago. He is also amazing. If you continue down this rabbit hole you will here him
Un coucou de l'armée NIGHTWISH de France, avec un peu de retard (beaucoup ) très bonne réaction et excellente analyse même si elle est négative , elle reste honnête , à l'écoute du plus grand groupe du monde pour ma part. I don't think Ghost Love Score is the best intro song for the more hard core metal fan. It is kind of a Nightwish sampler platter, a bit of this and a bit of that, that shows off their versatility hoping that a part of it will catch you and get you interested in seeing more. For someone who is known to like harder music there's better choices. If you want some more metal songs with interaction vocally between Floor and Marco, from this show try Wish I Had an Angel, Romanticide, and Ghost River. Ghost River in particular has an '80's Van Halen feel to the guitar riff.
I appreciate your honest reaction! Nightwish has epic songs like this one, which are obviously not going to be to your liking. They also have many other songs, such as Romanticide, which is way more metal and where you have both Floor and the bass player, Marko Hietala, singing. Their voices go very well together. So if you wanted to give NW another chance (and I totally get why you wouldn't), that might be good song to listen to. Anneke van Giersbergen opened for Floor on her solo shows last year, it's always wonderful to witness her perform live. 🤘
One of the guitarists from my band saw one of the shows with Floor and Anneke in europe last year and had high praise for it ( We both love Anneke's work with Devin Townsend )
Thank’s for your reaction🤘 I don’t think this is the right song to start with for someone who is in more traditional rock/metal. But their is a lot more songs that is more heavy without long interludes. Would love to see you react to Ghost River. I do believe you would click a lot more there.

I apreciate your honest opinions. Please check out Song of myself and Romantice from this same concert. They are more up your alley I think 🤘😆🤘 This is not a good introduction song for metal gatekeepers. No insult intended since I used to be one haha. That was up until I took deep Dive into Nightwish. I recommend you check out everything from 2013 onwords before going back to early years.
Bassist Marko Hietala (playing a Warwick Vampire I think) also has a phenomenal voice (and is a metal legend in Finland) - check out their performance of "Romanticide" from this same Wacken 2013 show for some of his vocals (and a taste of guitarist Emppu Vuorinen's shredding skills)
Ah, not your cup of tea. Hey ho! As an aside, seeing your Pink Floyd t-shirt, they have a fantastic version of High Hopes from a concert in 2005, with Marko (the bassist) doing vocals. You should check it out, even if not for a reaction vid. David Gilmour apparently thinks very highly of it.
Welcome to Nightwish from another old metal dude! That's a nice collection hanging behind you. Is that a Washburn acoustic bass? Marko is playing a Warwick Buzzard BO bass, the same model that Entwistle used. He also uses a Warwick Vampyre NT and "The Beast", a 20 kilo monster Warwick Infinity / Panthera Double neck Bass and Guitar.
ahh of course! As soon as you said Warwick Buzzard, my memory clicked into gear. I think because they are so heinously heavy looking, that by back has forced my brain to forget that they exist haha
Hey Old Man Metal Dude ... one older man to a younger old man. Nightwish Army Phoenix here for this. Yes, in this song and in many others it is our 6'1" (barefoot) Valkyrie Goddess, Floor Jansen on lead vocals, but there are a large number of songs where Marko Hietala (bass - Warwick BTW (although he sometimes plays a double neck Warwick bass and Framus electric guitar he calls The Beast) accompanies or takes the lead vocals. And yes, Empuu plays an ESP. I can certainly get how heavy metal dudes, such as yourself, don't dig the symphonic side of metal. That said, Nightwish does play some harder stuff. Their music is very diverse - unfortunately a lot of fans recommend THEIR favourite tracks, rather than considering the stated tastes of the reactor. Hopefully some people familiar with your preferred styles can make some sensible suggestions. 🇬🇧🤘🤘
@Bethuriel vor 2 Tagen Thnx 4 this. Go on with the stuff. Welcome to the Nightwish army^^. Please listen to Song of myself at Wacken. And, i am sure this will leave you speachless, the Gratest show on earth at Tampere. Due to Marco's voice , the wiking bassman, give The phantom of the opera a try, the"old" Nightwish singer Tarja will show her quality as well. Peace from Germany and pls stay save
Hey there, greetings from UK That was a great reaction, thanks for looking at my favourite band, especially as you are not really into Symphonic metal, more power to you mate Regarding their kit, 'Gear Gods Rigged' did a look see at their kit. The only difference is that the drummer has changed and they look at the kit of the new drummer. This drummer (Jukka) does play Tama and the kit examined in this link looks at the kit of their next drummer (Kai Hahto from Wintersun) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-6dhSkfbHXJc.htmlsi=5wp9PlqzMDUvhs4U This song is usually recommended to people as an introduction to Nightwish as it is a good introduction to show what Symphonic Metal is all about as many people are not familliar with it. They do have some great Metal songs though which might be more to your liking; Marko the basist with the long white hair and beard also sings. He won 'The Masked Singer' show in Finland. He has a great Metal voice and has been the front man/main singer in other bands before joining Nightwish. In my recommendations to you below he sings with Floor, they sound great together. 'Romanticide' from this same concert you will love, I guarantee. It is pure Metal. Emppu the guitarist usually doesn't shred and instead he plays melodic solos that fit with the song, but he does shred on that song! Also from this same concert, 'Song Of Myself', 'Dark Chest Of Wonders' (show opener) and 'Ghost River' are all Metal From their Wembley (UK) 2015 concert the song 'Yours Is An Empty Hope' is one of the heaviest songs they do. It has an iconic guitar riff and Floor does some growling! The song featured as a 30 second clip in an episode of 'The Simpsons' which you could find on RU-vid From their Buenos Aires concert the song 'Devil & The Deep Dark Ocean'. Marko plays the part of The Devil trying to seduce a mermaid who is Floor, and she is having none of it. It's a great showcase for Kai on the drums Give 'Romanticide' a listen and see what you think? Oh, by the way, your T-Shirt reminded me, they also did a fantastic tribute to Pink Floyd with their cover of 'High Hopes' ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-4oEDnVeYYyM.htmlsi=A3I-hSg8dOkqR8re David Gilmour apparently was very impressed and posted it on his Instagram
