They make it look effortless, not even paying attention. Their talent and greatness is all the more impressive considering their physical and emotional stress. Leon's birth defects and failed marriage drove him to be a recluse. Glen suffered lifelong drug abuse and failed relationships. I feel for both of them that these obstacles diminished their greatness in later life. R.I.P. All we have is recordings and memories.
Interesting to see that Cecil (Gram) stole the name from people he played with in 1967. No wonder they continued the name long after he was gone. I'll bet Ian Dunlop never saw a penny for the name he originated in spite of Parsons' huge trust fund ($50,000 per year). He even lied about The Byrds wanting to use the name for the "Notorious Byrd Brothers" album.
I can tolerate up to the rick roberts era, but after that, nah....it was just the name, nobody original, just the name. Badge engineering is for machines, not groups
Dem Boyz were part of the “Wrecking Crew Gang” hence every artist and musicians during those days knew they were the ***BEST*** at the instruments they played - PERIOD!!
Couldn't discern much or see the info. What a dumb "history." But I loved the Burritos, have all the vinyl. It would be great they did a real documentary. Wish I could dump this phone.
First and foremost, excellent job. I had no idea Guilbeau had been with the Burritos. The only thing I've heard that I knew was him until now is the Nashville West album with Clarence White and Gene Parsons. That is a fabulous live set for anyone who hasn't seen it.
Watch Glen Campbell on late night with Bob Costos interview. (About 40 minutes) The last 5 minutes, Glen talks about him and Leon Russell performing the words and music to a Lady Clairol Hair commercial, I believe it would be about 1961.
Wat een energie mannen. Het spat ervan af. Nou zit ik met twee losse speakers die zomaar de huiskamer in vlogen. Hier mogen jullie trots op zijn, allemaal.
Love the thought into this doc , it shows you the soul of Gram Parson dream go in so many ways and folks caring the name and music on . They all took it to a different way and Gram Parsons mix of cosmic country alive . Just like Doug Sahm did with his mix of boys in the bands . God bless them all and gave us good ol boys some where to during that jacked up Disco freak era .
The Flying Burrito Brothers name was first used by Ian Dunlop and Mickey Gauvin after they left the International Submarine Band in California. It was a different band and I believe Gram copped the name from his old bandmates.
Glen is probably THEE most underrated guitarist of all time (that I know of). I used to think it was Prince, but even he said Glen is the greatest guitarist he knew. Another Glen story: Eddie went to play golf with Alice, and asked if he "was gonna get Glen to play?" Eddie didn't care about golf, he wanted to meet him hoping to get a guitar lesson from him. Edward Van Halen wanted a lesson from Glen Campbell. THAT'S how good Glen was. Can't believe I've only found this out in the last year. Enjoy, unless you're a close minded blockhead like I had been most of my life (with music anyway)
I grew up in the seventies, and was into The Who and Pink Floyd and didn't give him a chance. In fact, I cheered when he got bashed in the face in the movie True Grit. Yet here I am...
