The environment is just as important as the fish when it comes to fishing! We will bring Tasmania's best wilderness, fresh water and salt water fishing locations, fishing action, guests, news and gear reviews to you via youtube videos and instagram pictures.
Just discovered your channel. Really enjoying it - the content and presentation is fantastic and always great to see Tassie fishing like this. Many thanks, looking forward to more in the future.
Great video, mate 👍🏼. Nice trout and ice on the water, lol 🥶. One on the fly rod and none on the spin rod. I love the photography of the birds as well. Cheers.
Hey mate, the kingfish need warmer waters. In Tassie, you hear about the odd one still being caught in May, and then they start to arrive again towards the end of November. Peak season is normally late December to the end of March
We have had a dry time here in NZ as well (has impacted on the fisihing here as well) - I also saw you on TV here in NZ last week advertising the wildlife park there in Tassie and Tassie in general.
We only got rain last week, not enough but at least it was something. I hope I did a good job on the TV! I can't remember what I talked about, I'll have to find out how to watch it
Hi Rory, thanks for the videos :) Yes, I too am wondering what's going on in Tasmanian rivers?! I'm currently living in Europe but I was back in Tassie over Summer, and it was really tough going with the fly rod and I couldn't work out where all the fish were. Some of these rivers are renowned for remarkable fishing but some days I didn't even spook a single fish while wading. A little worrying.
Well done, Rory. Some nice water there. I agree, the EP situation is an absolute discrace. The fact we have a native species that once had a much larger range, now confined to just one waterway, is deplorable. The government and IFS should be ashamed of themselves. They can't even supply and erect any signage to warn people that the species is fully protected now and there have been numerous reports of fish being cleaned at the boat ramp over the past few years! What is interesting is that the Advocate newspaper have a story on FB today reporting that the only known population is in a far north-west river! It will be interesting the read the whole story...
Coincidentally, the IFS just posted on their socials yesterday about finishing an EP monitoring trip. The full study will be released soon. It was their first monitoring trip since 2014. I think the IFS need their own government owned hatchery to produce more fish to put into our waterways
My experience this season has been the same. Great up until Christmas then atrocious ever since. I packed the trout gear away mid march and have been targeting bream and other salt water species instead.
This season has definitely been worse than last season with lower water, issues in the Western Lakes, cormorants etc. Seasons like thisbwill probably become more frequent, unfortunately. We're lucky to have some great saltwater fishing as a backup plan, for now.
Nice to see you back again mate. Fond memories of fishing the Leven many years ago. Caught some really nice fish down in the Canyon but it can be dangerous underfoot. Sad to hear about the Western Lakes and interesting ideas about diversifying to other species. I'm fairly certain the Tas Government and Inland Fisheries have zero interest in changing the current 'trout fisheries' . Who knows what they are thinking long term if anything.
Yes, I think there is the typical "traditional" thinking going on, with much of the government set in their ways. This doesn't just relate to trout fishing, of course. I contacted someone in the IFS a couple of years ago, and the response was "estuary perch aren't on our radar at the moment".
I guess you would get very similar climate trends to here. It has cooled down here now, but we still need a lot more rain. Hopefully, we get a proper winter this year.
@@TasmanianFishingAdventures you’d be surprised! Kingfish will take huge baits. I grew up fishing for real ones in NZ and we were often surprised how small fish will take huge live baits.
I am always amazed at the tight shallow water you manage to land big fish in. you are a true artist to the sport of fly fishing. Well done on another amazing trip and video.
Great video mate. Tassie has always been one of my favorite places, even though I haven't had the chance to get back there in many years. The Trout fishing, the locations and the wildness of the Tasmanian countryside has always intrigued and called to me, one day I'll gat back there, until then I'll just have to subscribe and enjoy my Trout fishing, vicariously, through you.
I'm glad you've been enjoying the videos, Sean! It's a special place Tassie. Sometimes, the hardest part is choosing where to fish next. There are plenty of trout waiting for you when you return
G'day Rory, I loved the video. The location is stunning and is totally different to what river/stream fishing is. It presents its own challenges and you have got it down pat. Only found your site recently and and I am looking forward to seeing more episodes in the future. Cheers and thankyou.
