I have worked in the Aerospace Industry for 27 years in these skills...CNC & centre lathe setting and machining, assembling & testing hydraulic, pneumatic and mechanical components. The majority being for military and civil aircraft and other transport. I have a very small backyard workshop with a Myford ML7, a Chinese Mini Lathe and a bench drill. I design and make lathe tools, do machine upgrades and repairs, make target shooting, survival and photographic equipment. Plus I do reviews of things I buy to use in the workshop and around the home. Some time ago I was diagnosed with depression and have had a few psychotic episodes. This channel came about by chance, without planning in 2016, when my brother gave me a Myford ML7 lathe. This inspired me to do my first video. I had so much encouragement from viewers and subscribers, that I carried on. I enjoy sharing what I do and it helps me to stay creative and positive. facebook.com/profile.php?id=100089724160426
If it's not the chuck flexing it's the.... Chuck to spindle engagement Head stock bearings The extra mass of the bigger chuck should help, rather than hinder, if anything.
Well explained but I think I’d remove the Allen head and replace it with a bolt with a double thickness head, it would be easier to get a spanner on and keep the locking key engaged while tightening,
Inherited a Myford A2 (ML4?) recently and could not work out what the backgear assembly was all about. Appreciate the explanation as it firmly knocks out one of the bigger questions I have about this lathe. Thank you.
One very important thing to remember is that ptfe tape is NOT a sealant. It's a lubricant. It just makes it easier to seat the different components that perform the sealing. Using too much tape can prevent getting a good seal.
I got the wasabi one. I don’t know how much a difference it is, but I Shepard an old knife I found in the back of an old car pretty nasty looking chef knife. But boy you could cut.
Its perfect. Just what i was looking for, and well thought out. Now on my way to make one for my mini lathe. Keep up the great work. I also noticed your indexing unit added to your chuck plate! It's a beautiful piece of work and design. Thank You!
By the comments given its more than obvious that some men will do or pay just about anything to get away from their wives. Since quality doesn’t apply in this case, I’ll just say that if this is the level of tool you choose, we can safely assume that your wives not only held the door for you, but were hoping that it “wood” hit you in the derrière on your way out.
I've cut some threads manually by inserting the chuck key in the spindle and using it to rotate the work, but I've never seen a manual crank operation done like this on a motorized lathe. Neat.
Hey Steve, great content! I have a long cross slide but using a standard size screw. What are the use of this long travel ? I can already do all types of operations with the standard screw? Thank you very much, Benjamin
I have just purchased the model with the plastic cover the first one you hold up in your video. Could you give me advice on how this unit comes apart as it needs a grease and I'm not sure how to take it apart without breaking the plastic. Thanks.
