what a beautiful rendition. i think of the last words as an ode To Jesus. "that one man scorned and covered with scars still strove with his last ounce of courage to reach the unreachable star".-
It's often said that Liberace wasn't in the same league as the strictly classical concert pianists of his day. To some extent that may be true, though the technique for his music was very different and just as demanding. However, this recording shows that he had all the hallmarks of a great classical technique. Much respect ought to be given for the fact that he chose to go in a direction which would make piano music accessible to a huge number of people who otherwise would never have set foot in a concert hall.
We serious pianists tend to disparage Liberace for “selling out” to become a cheap entertainer. This video proves he could play the piano with the best of us. I have no doubt he could have made a career as a traditional concert pianist. He was very gifted. I wonder why the clear piano lid has never become standard. It enables the audience to see the orchestra, and the pianist can see the conductor through it, if necessary. It still projects the sound, as originally designed.
I loved Liberace. On top of all his showmanship, he loved his fans most of all, and would talk and tell stories to complete strangers. I love the candelabra on the oven!
My grandmother got really mad at me when I was visiting her and she would watch his programs I would exclaim man he is super gay and my grandmother would always get mad at me, screaming he is not gay.😂😂😂
Les Paul recorded a guitar version of Nola for Capitol. What a treat it would have been to hear these two absolute masters perform it as a duet. Ah, hindsight......
An amazing pianist. His talent was huge. Maestro Liberace was one of kind, a great gifted human with charisma and finesse. Someone like him God sends on earth perhaps every millennia ❤
Oh, I also remember these programs long before they entered the “archives of yesteryear”. It’s great, though, that they have been preserved for so many to enjoy today by young and old timers like me alike.
