Our maximum recommended spans are 12' for length and 8' for height. For spans longer than 12' we recommend building a double pergola using our Quad bracket. Some customers have built beyond our recommendation and been fine but do so at their discretion.

Our Pergola kits do not include the wood beams, and the beauty of our systems is that it allows any kind of lumber that will fit the brackets. You can use any dry, straight lumber that fits our brackets and is strong enough to build a pergola. By design, our products allow you the freedom to choose your preferred wood to suit your build and budget. We do not ship lumber because it's oversized, it might twist in shipping and you as a customer will incur an inflated shipping cost.

We had this system used for our pergola. It is beautiful but they had to shave down the lumber to fit. And we’ve had wood do some bending and twisting. My advice is to use spacers or trellis to keep the long boards from doing their own thing for a couple years, then you can probably remove it/them.

Our brackets can withstand the harsh winters & weather conditions and have an outdoor powder coating to protect against rust and bad weather. The Shade Sail is designed for shade and can be damaged in high winds/harsh conditions, we recommend taking down the Shade Sail in high winds above 30mph and before winter. The standard pergola structure itself has been tested in 75mph winds.
Our brackets are made from 12-14 gauge steel that is laser cut, bent and hand welded. The brackets are then coated with a very durable outdoor powder coating.
