I just put down the last of my DEF from last year like 2 hours ago. I think I’ll use ammonium sulfate and hot water from now on. Thanks for cost analysis.
since the options for nurse tank volume and sprayer volume are many, your question cannot be answered without more specificity. no matter the combination, you’ll need to comply with product labeling.
Try specticle flo / esplanade (commercial form of Specticle Flo/ cheaper given higher percentage of Indaziflam - 19.05% vs 7.4%) / rezilon (cheapest form of same product as Esplanade). It's the best preemergent for poa and there's only a few rare instances of resistances documented in the US at this time. You may want to rotate your mode of action each year to prevent resistant weeds. Indaziflam is group 29, prodiamine is group 3.
@whitneyrowe8985 yes, I do! also, i’m getting into the business of treating lawns as well! if interested, you may reach me for that service at lawnenvysc@gmail.com 👍
I like how you do your work for others to get help and , because I can tell you enjoy it. Superb contest.., I been using GreenCast for 5 years but, you broke it down way better
well it depends on what the soil tests say but this season i’m spraying ammonium sulfate. next year it will likely be urea only. very basic (and inexpensive) stuff!
I have been using this App called "Picture This" for years but this actually seems easier. Also what part of the country are you in seems we have some similar weeds here in South Georgia>
it was just ok. i verticut twice (once in may and a second time in august). the grass was still too thick in the end and the mower started floating on top again. i am going to reduce my inputs (nitrogen and water) to see what that does. this year, i verticut + scalped at green up. so far i am very pleased! hope to have everything dialed in this year 🤞
@Thomas' Turf Tips im having the same issue. For two years in a row now. I put a metric ton of high nitrogen fertilizer and water the hell out of the grass and by August I am fighting my reelmower just to cut it. I don't want to scalp because it's 110 degrees outside in se new mexico, and I would die trying. I watched the howtowithdoc vid about verticutting and he says it's the answer, but who knows.
i don’t think verticutting is the answer. i put down 2lbs N/1000 last year and will be reducing it to 0.75 this year. Also, the water will be dialed back to 75% of what it was last year. And, finally, I’ll be cutting back cutting frequency to 1x/week. All of things I am getting from the Greendoc whom I have a lot of respect for…a real pro!
Hey Tom, happy Easter! Remember me, from W. coast now in rockies. Snow is now all melted. Do you mow first even though the lawn is just coming out of dormancy before I fertilize?
Do you scalp your lawn in the spring? I scalp in the spring and last year fertilized the hell out of my yard and by August, I gave up mowing it. It was kicking my butt too hard. Just curious if you scalp in the spring and verticut in the summer.
Yes, I scalp in the Spring and this year I used the Sunjoe verticutter attachment to help with the dethatching. If you have a mature lawn, try dialing back the N this year. I am planning on dialing mine back to just 1lb of N this season for the same reason as you (I was getting overworked with cutting). If my plan is successful, I hope not to have to verticut again this season 🤞
Is the rest of your yard the GCI Bermuda? I’ve been considering the Alpha elite and Royal TXD for my reno but there aren’t any seeding videos using the GCI besides Pete’s and even he replaced the alpha elite he grew. I wouldn’t mind seeing an update on theGCI portion at least either way. Originally I was going to use Arden 15 but it’s discontinued those were my other two choices.
No, not all my yard is the GCI alpha elite…only a portion of my back yard which is a mix of hybrid and common. My front yard is the showpiece with Tifway 419. I am pleased with the the GCI bermuda. It filled in nicely but is not the quality of the 419. I may try to overseed my common bermuda with the GCI seed as it is definitely a better turf than common. Hope this helps 👍
Love your channel bud. Unfortunately I moved to the rockies and have had 4 feet of snow for the past 4 months lol, it's starting to melt now-slightly. I'll be using your tips for pre-emergent treatment that I used last year here.
thank you @definitiveenergy1878! not sure where in CO you have moved to but, taking Boulder, CO as an example, soil temps approach 55F in late April so it looks like you would need to apply pre-emergent in early April. Although, I believe weed pressure is much less in this area so pre-emergent may not be necessary. John Perry @lawncology (based out of Utah) mentioned this in a recent video he posted.
The Negate label requires that you mix the entire bottle (1.5oz). That will treat 1 acre. This is one of the problems is see for homeowners using Negate. 1 acre is much larger than the average property. You could always share with a neighbor using a nurse tank How to Use a Nurse Tank in Herbicide Applications ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE--lopQJ8H58w.html
@@thomasturftips1427 I plan on mixing the container in 1 gallon of water, then filling my 4 gallon tank to do my lawn and neighbors. The question is, how much of the mixed nagate should I put into the 4 gallon sprayer?
@@coachjedijason mix the negate, the whole bottle with a gallon of water. That will create your suspended concentrate. Take 3 oz out of the suspension and add it to 1 gallon of water per 1,000 square feet. You can spot spray with it or if you plan on doing a blanket application the 1.5 oz bottle will do a acre. But spray it at 3oz per gallon per 1,000 square feet. Most sprayers spray 1 gal per 1,000 but calibrate your sprayer to be 100% certain. Hope this helps.
Did you mix the entire bottle? Into how many oz water? And then how many ounces of that did you use per gal? Why not just blanket spray the entire yard?
Yes, per the label you are to mix the entire contents (1.5 dry oz) at once (because it is a non-homogenous mixture). I chose to mix it in a 1 gallon (128 liq oz) nurse tank. So, per the label, it is 1.5 dry oz per acre and, when placed in a one gallon nurse tank, you would apply 2.9 liq oz of the nurse mixture per 1000ft^2. The reason I did not blanket spray was that I did not have a widespread poa infestation...just some patches here and there. Hope this helps!
I just stumbled onto this channel, I really like the content and love your attitude. Just moved to Northern Utah from the San Diego area and have not dialed in the cool season lawn pre-emergent schedule where there is snow on the ground in the winter. Talked to a few people that say don't use a pre-emergent in fall, only spring. You got another new sub! Keep up the good work and you'll get the sud's I'm sure
wow… thanks for the kind words! you’re definitely dealing with a totally different climate and, of course, grass type but i hope some things translate for you! you might want to check out Lawn Rebel. He’s out of Utah and is much more entertaining than i am capable of!
