They need an adult version of the Fun House for the kids who grew up with this show! College Madhouse doesn't count, because we are all way past college age now.
As a kid, I used to be so excited but now I realize the runner up just gets a hundred buck and the winners could get camera, telephone set bicycle etc lol. A television show of such level offering just this ... Now it really feels funny.
I watched Fun House on WDCA in D.C. when it was syndicated from 1988 until 1990, when it moved to Fox, picking up and renaming it Fox's Fun House for the 3rd season and became a weekly Saturday morning offering, airing on Saturday Mornings as part of FOX KIDS on Fox affiliate WTTG/5 beginning on September 8, 1990 until April 13, 1991, when it was replaced by Swamp Thing.
I love how when Mr. Roth mentions the twin cheerleaders, the contestants come out simultaneously. In the UK version, the host (Pat Sharp) had to mention the twins (Melanie and Martina) first and then the contestants second which I thought was a little embarrassing. I also love how the cheerleaders were ecstatic, much like the cheerleaders in the UK version (although during the later UK years, they decided that they would just look at the camera and try to be cute while waving to the crowd, which looked weird but cute at the same time). And finally, I love how the announcer, Tiny, loved to be goofy before the start, which is something the UK version did NOT have (And I wish the announcer on the UK version did do goofy stuff and even show his face but the producers wouldn't let him 😭) Conclusion: As a person who enjoys the UK version a lot, this version looked pretty cool as well. Edit: I also love how the contestants wear horse costumes in the grand prix, in the Uk version, the contestants drove F1-like cars which I thought was boring. Also another cool feature was the twin cheerleaders holding what looks like number counters in their hands, in the UK version, Melanie and Martina both had to yell the number out to those at home which I thought was a little annoying *no offense necessary*
I used to love to watch this show all the time and I never forgot meeting JD Roth! He was the 1st "celebrity from T.V." I ever met!😊 He was a guest host at our Annual Thanksgiving day parade in Chicago and I was able to go up to him after the Parade and got up the nerve to ask him for an autograph he was really nice! #80sbabiesRule
The world feels worse in so many ways today than it did in the 1980s... and yet when I think to myself, "I wonder if J.D. Roth's Fun House still exists somewhere," I turn on the internet and here it is! I'm so grateful for this walk down memory lane. We live in a truly great age to be nostalgic for our childhoods. Thanks for sharing your adventure with us!
I agree one of the good things today is you can find these gems again online. But yes those days were better times. Not perfect. But better than today.
