Steve McCurry as best as I can research shot Afghan Girl with a Nikkor 105mm f2.5 ais. But as a former news photographer myself I truly loved the camera choices as well as an accurate portrayal of being around news photographers.
Do you think you can make another video where we can actually see what this adapter looks like? Because 90% on the time your hand that was holding it was out of the frame and the other 10% you were waving it around so fast it was hard to tell if an adapter was actually on the camera.
The screen is better on Hasselblad? maybe it is bigger but not resolution. The EVF is much more responsive and has a much better resolution on GFX100II. Hasselblad EVF is like a grandfather compared to Fuji regarding responsiveness and blackout. Autofocus is 5 times better on FUJI and the colors are both so beautiful 2 cameras. Fuji gives you much more option to start your image in terms of your style with film simulations. Fuji has much better features in terms of technology. The only reason you love Hasselblad and say it is better because you want to use it and you have connection with the camera. That's all
I currently have two xt-5 for my documentary style pro work. The 18mm 1.4 is on one of them 99% of the the time. The other one with the 33 or the 56. I think about switching the first one for a Leica Q3 😅🫣
The Q3 is a sweet camera, but I think that could make things difficult- you'd have to color match the photos for every session. Mr. Leica just release presets to make Fujis look like Leica colors, but I haven't tried them...
I didn't use the D810, but heard it was great in its day. That said, DxO mark says that's not true and the D850 is better: www.dxomark.com/Cameras/Compare/Side-by-side/Nikon-D850-versus-Nikon-D810___1177_963
The SL3 is Way bigger and heavier than the Q3. As a point and shoot, the Q3 is on another level. The SL3 is in a different category of camera, you're comparing apples to oranges.
I'm a Leica & Sony user. I have the M11 and love that camera for photography, size and over shooting experience. On the other hand, Sony is my do it all camera. I use the A7RV and the lens options along with the video capability wins for me in certain situations. If I'm shooting sports or documenting my daughter's recital that's the camera I'm picking up. From a cost perspective you're paying a lot less but we all knew that. I will say this that the Leica straight out of camera and feel of it is amazing. Definitely thought about an SL3 but those lenses and its capabilities are limiting in that price point.
Yep, if the SL3 were the same (or close) to the same price as the a7R5, it would be a different story. But since it's so much more expensive, I agree, the way to go for pure shooting experience is the M11 over the SL3 (and something like the R5 as a workhorse).
I've dabbled with Leica and I can afford an SL3 and some Leica glass but I just don't think the cost is justified. It's subjectively worse than GFX and that keeps me away. I haven't even bought a GFX yet because I'm just not sure if it's really going to be any better than my Nikon Z8. I do still keep my old Leica SL 601 around though because it's fun to use with vintage glass. Even though it's old it still has a better viewfinder than 90% of new cameras on the market.
@@NickDelDuca I think it would depend on what kind of photography you are doing- if you are printing big or need massive DR, the GFX will be a significant improvement. If not, the Z8 is a great camera and it sounds like you’ve got your fun/personal work camera with the 601. And then maybe when you want to treat yourself sometime, you can get a used SL2 or SL3 in the future.
@@MarcAdesso Yeah I've been eying a used SL2-S, it has good DR and it's faster. That's the main issue with the SL601... It takes great pictures but it's kinda slow and laggy.
I have X-H2S and X100vi. I love handling X-H2s more, if Fuji made 2 changs. 1. Rotating D-Pad. 2. Vertical Front Dial infront of the shutter release button.
Love the 40/1.2 on Zf. You got the retro body and retro lens with the retro classic filmic look wide open but able to sharpened up to modern performance from 1.8 and on. This lens is simply a gem and the best match to the Zf. I now have it as my EDC and all purpose lens. Perfect for portrait, family, pets, travel, cityscape and landscape. Much better character than the APOs which are way too clinical to me. I wish Voigtländer can soon bring the 28mm /1.5 and 21mm/1.4 to z mount.
Yes, I wish they would take their smaller M-mount lenses and their Nikon-retro F lenses and adapt both to the Z mount. Would fix probably the biggest problem with the Zf- lack of native retro lenses!
Thanks for the review. I’m at this very moment of choosing which one to get. I had Sony A7III in the past and sold all of my kit. I’m actually starting from scratch and considering what system to invest in. I really like the Nikon Zf style and their incredibly high quality. Also I think that investing in Z lenses can be a good long term investment ‘cause I don’t think they’ll change it and the camera bodies will get even better. In the other hand, Panasonic seems very solid and also cheaper. That’s a very difficult decision to make because I’m more into photos than video. If you had to choose only one which one would you pick?
@@thejohnraf If you’re more into photo and you’re not so worried about retro styling, I’d take a look at the Z6 III (which wasn’t out when I made this video). If you think the retro camera thing will make you reach for the camera way more often, Zf. Photo feels like a bit of an afterthought on the S5IIx, so you have to really want to use it for photo. Since you mentioned Sony, I’d also mention I’m really liking the sensor output from the Sony a7CR, so that could be an option if you ultimately felt more comfortable with what you know already. But to your point, Sony may change their lens mount at some point (at least sooner than the Z mount for sure). Hope that helps!
@@MarcAdesso I’m 100% sure Z6III is a monster camera, but it costs at least £1000 more than ZF and that’s absolutely far from what I’m considering spending at the moment. Also it might be “too much” for what I’ll be using it for. I’m moving away from Sony exactly because I’m really thinking they might come up with a lens upgrade any time soon and also for the price. Sony bodies and lenses are pricey and as for the A7C I just find that viewfinder on the left side of the body something quite odd. But I’m sure it’s a fantastic camera. As for now I’m skipping Lumix altogether, as you mentioned, although the image quality for stills aren’t too bad, they are more video focused than photos. That’s my point though.
@@thejohnraf Sounds like the Zf is the right fit! Also interesting that here in the US, the Z6 III is only $500 more than the Zf, I guess pricing is different in the UK?
Im starting to like your channel, Which is better for low light photography past 3200iso in comparison to the SL2, would it be the SL2-S or the new SL3? And how far apart in low light performance difference are the sl2-s and sl3 from each other, thanks!
@@lizlana4200 I think the SL2S is probably still the best for low light (especially if you really want to crank up the ISO), but the SL3 comes fairly close in most reasonable situations. The SL2 is not so good in low light.
Looking forward to your thoughts moving forward. I have an X-T5 and X100F, however also have an X100Vi on order. I have never seen an X-Pro 3 in the flesh, however they fascinate me. I don't necessarily need to change lenses, even though I do with the X-T5, however there's something about the perceived feel of the X-Pro's that make me want to try one.
Your comment that the Sony menu was a mess reminded me of an anecdote. Female driver got a puncture in her Japanese car and started to panic. The manual was in the glove box but she couldn't find any help under P or T (obviously Puncture or Tyre). In the end help was listed under 'I' - that is IF you get a puncture...........
I am confused, does gfx100II front and rear dials come not assigned by default or something? All my gfx cameras came preset and exposure triangle is there from the start. It takes like a minute or two to make a basic setup of gfx and if you are a simple man you don't need to touch any of the menus except 'format' ever again. But when you want your camera to be more than one thing, you set it up to be a square format b&w camera, and switch between different 'cameras' in a millisecond. Menu on gfx is not the best, and there are some confusing logical bombs there but you cannot blame it for having too many options. It is a benefit, not a problem.
That’s a bit of a tricky question - I have a video comparing the GFX to the SL3, so check that out, with the caveat that the tests in this video made me rethink my choice and I actually ended up selling the SL3 in favor of the GFX 100SII. I’ll be making a video soon about the S100II so stay tuned! That said, Leica glass is the best in the business. But Fuji has the MF sensor and thus bigger, MF lenses. So if you could somehow adapt the Fuji lenses to a FF camera, or vice versa, then I’d pick Leica every time. This is also why I’m so interested to see what Leica will do with its MF system when it gets officially announced next year. But since you can’t (at least in 2024), I’d say pretty comparable as a result of the sensor and lens size differences.
I have been thinking about an x2d ever since the launch date. I did have an x1dii and loved it. But I switched to a Sony a7cr with gm 35mm f1.4, which I am really happy with. However I still miss that hassy color. I am tired of messing with raw files and applying profiles and tweaks. when I had the x1dii I never needed to do that. Part of me wants to go back and have that perfect color. I may rent one for a Colorado trip coming up and decide after that what to do. Thanks
Simple menu is all we want and nothing else. Get a Sony if you like loosing your time in menu settings. Leica and Hasselblad are not for amateurs like you.
Either you missed the point or haven’t used the camera- the issue I describe is a known issue across several Leica and Panasonic that cannot be fixed using menu settings.
Fuji production is cheap chain style production so the product is. Leica is hand made assembly line high end product. Not a question of market demand at all. You are wrong.
The SL3 is assembled in Germany from Chinese made parts. The GFX100 II is assembled in Japan from a mix of Japanese and Chinese made parts. Leica prices their cameras to gatekeep, Fujifilm doesn't.
I do NOT like todays overdesigned camera bags, least of all drink/bottle holders outside on the bag ! Make Camera bags SIMPLE as they were in the good old days.
@@MarcAdesso Some very old Lowepro bags (maybe you very not born when they were made!) and a Crumpler bag, these bags have just space for Cameras, Lenses, batteries and memory cards, nothing else fancy, they are very well made, hence the age and still going ! I do not like Domke bags.
I have experience of 45 years as both a professional and as a hobby photographer, I have used a LOT of different Cameras. I have Sony because the size is just right and Sony is not overprized as the Leica, the SL3 is almost double the price and the EVF and the IBIS in Sony are better, so for me it is a very easy choice ! Today there is a hysteric hype around Leica that is not justified !
Yes, I think there are sort of 2 camps on this issue- some people like a clean as possible rendering, and some like imperfect rendering, but call it 'character.'
Marc, I agree with you that the Sony A7RV five-way flip screen should become the standard then we can avoid this whole flip vs. fully articulating screen debate forever.
Yes, my experience was really bad. I understand it’s improved somewhat recently, but they still only have like one person actually working for them in America…
I have both Q3 and X100VI. I have already sold Q3 and keep X100VI for my everyday camera. For serious photography, I have Leica M11. My conclusions are ... 1. Q3 is very good but it is not worth the price at all. The image quality of Q3 is not much superb than other brands for the price $6000. Actually Q3 is left behind for auto focus, video, or App. 2. Q3 does not give Leica looks. If you want the Leica, please go to M or SL. 3. Q3 focal length is actually wider than 28mm comparing to others. It's great for street photo but it is very difficult to take nice popular looks of portrait pictures. There are now many used Q3 still under warranty sold about $5,000. If you really want to try Q3, it is better to buy the used one now. For Fuji X100VI, I love it for everyday fun camera.
I laughed when I held the ZFC at best Buy last year during a visit and was not impressed with the quality or cheap nature in general. I did however purchased two ZF's recently for several reasons... build quality, the full frame sensor, performance and the ergonomics improvement with Nikon's added grip. The FujiX100f never met my expectations and the color always disappointed me, even after endless hours of editing. I still utilize my two Canon 1DX MK3's and L glass for professional work, but the ZF's are now making work so much more enjoyable with less effort... and with a whole lot less weight . I started with a Fujicon AX5 back in 1979 and find the ZF has similar charm... The weight is no issue unless you have some kind of disability...
It is interesting that peole who prefer this lens continoulsy talk about "Magic". That is very hard to see and with direct, 1:1 comparisons, I have never seen examples that can demonstarte the general superiority. Especially abov 70, the 24-90 by all accounts is fairly average.
I'm a Nikon and Fuji user, but I would choose the A7RV over the SL3. The SL3 is a beautiful camera, but a backup body is a must for work, and the SL3 price makes that a challenging proposition, at least for me. I'm with you on the ZF; it needs a joystick. I have a ZF and I'm thinking of selling it because I don't like the handling. The lack of a joystick and limited custom functions irks me. As for the Nikon colors, I have to disagree with you on that.
Maybe I should have clarified a bit more- I think Nikon has nice color for objects, but their skin tones aren’t as good as Leica or Canon. Is that your experience as well?
Not at all- in fact, I ended up keeping the GFX, not the SL3. But besides the medium format sensor, what feature does the GFX have that the SL3 doesn’t?
I actually did a monthly subscription after testing it out and the full app actually is very nice and makes it fun to shoot with your phone. Very nice results 👌🏾
