You definitely DO NOT want to run the wire through the A pillar without securing it to other harnesses in the pillar, using cable-ties. Just tucking behind the pillar cover risks the cable interfering with proper operation of the airbag. Take the A pillar cover off and do it right.

I don't enjoy the outlets being installed sideways. A lot of those big block ac/dc converters for electronics only stick in the outlet well if it is installed in the regular vertical orientation. Contact pressure with the prongs is better in general with a vertical orientation, less risk of a plug becoming loose.

@@brianapel8404 Are you saying the home owner is now going to have to pay more to fix what this guy did? Clearly what he did was meant for exposed wiring in a commercial environment. Not for a basement that is about to be finished... Where there could have been no metal conduit, metal receptacles etc. I bet this guy charged them 1k+ for this job. And the electrition hired to fix all this once the drywall is up is going to get another 1k+ to fix it so it looks like a normal finished wall. Nice.
@brianapel8404
@brianapel8404 5 месяцев назад
@@cranbers you’re obviously not familiar with electrical work in the Chicago area. All conductors are required to be run in metal conduit, even inside walls, and even in residential. And I told the customer that after it was framed out in a few years, I would put on the extension rings, and mud rings before Drywall goes up for no extra charge.

One tip I learned from an old boss to make life easier for framers is to make two 90's at the corner. If you bend up or down, then another 90 to the right, the emt stays tight to the wall the whole way.

We just added a blower to our Heatalator unit. There is a gap under the box that draws cool air that is heated and radiates out of the vent along the top. With our ceiling fan on reverse it would warm the room several degrees, although below about 2 feet it would also draw cool air across the floor. Anyone seated in the room can feel the uncomfortable chill. The blower certainly helps expel the heated air, but at even its lowest speed setting it just exacerbates the situation with a stronger draw of cool air. The answer, of course, is to draw the air from outside. Hopefully a modification can be made without having to replace the whole thing.

The heavy-duty industrial grade NEMA 14-50 receptacles (Hubbell, Bryant) are constructed of fire-resistant Bakelite rather than injection-molded plastic, and their 4 contact springs are heavy-duty with heavy plating, specifically designed for thousands of insertion/removal cycles rather than a few dozen. They also feature specially plated clamp-style wiring connections with set screws which must be carefully tightened using a calibrated torque wrench. A side-by-side comparison is compelling, and there are a rapidly-growing number of photos of melted/scorched/burned NEMA 14-50 outlets posted on the Internet. Sadly, many of these dangerous receptacles were installed by licensed electricians. Prices of these receptacles are coming back down (~$75) now that supply is catching back up with demand. Less-expensive, lower-quality NEMA 14-50 receptacles are unsafe for EV charging and should all come with a warning that they are not designed for and must not be used for EV charging applications. Given the risk, home improvement stores (Home Depot, Lowes, ACE Hardware, etc) should completely stop selling them, and online stores should be required to have detailed warnings. The national wiring codes should also be updated appropriately. No one should die or lose their home over this issue. That said, a safer, more reliable option is to have an EVSE permanently wall-mounted with a dedicated, hard-wired connection rather than installing a NEMA 14-50 receptacle. And PLEASE hire a licensed, experienced electrician. Don't risk your home and loved ones to save a few bucks. Seriously. Now that the Tesla/NACS connector is being adopted for EV charging in 120/240Vac North America, the Tesla (Gen 3) Wall Connector EVSE is an excellent value with a large installed base and a well-earned reputation for safety and reliability.
