I started this channel to create reviews or show basic how to info on dumb projects I do or have done. Never expected to do this since I don't even like being in pictures but having just gone through cancer treatment of the base of the tongue puts things into a new perspective. Just go for things and enjoy it!!!! The treatment was only completed about 6 months ago so speech issues are still there as you will hear in the videos. Hope it improves but that is something I can live with as opposed to the alternative. Had great support from family, friends, doctors and everyone at the treatment center. Couldn't have done it without them!!!

Used to watch how to videos on you tube and reviews of things in the past and wanted to try to contribute to that community. Being a "tinkerer" by nature and always doing one project or another whether it made sense or not has been a great enjoyment in life. So if that also makes you happy then go do it. ENJOY THAT SENSELESS FUN IN YOUR LIFE!

you think i can run the eg4 12000 btu mini split with 2 400watts panels
@senselessfun
@senselessfun 3 месяца назад
I will have to double check the specs later on it exactly but you would need to have enough voltage from the panels to run it as well as the watts. I have 8 24v panels in series to run the mini split. 6 would work as well. My issue is the poor sun especially in winter up here. So when I ran the heat the other day it was using about 1000 to 1050 watts and solar was only producing about 1/3 of what it needed so it was pulling the rest from the grid. I would be same for AC but don't remember the watts needed for AC. I don't think 800 would be enough though considering you will not get full 800 watts from the panels to start with.

great update … I didn’t realize it, I’ll test mine later … thx. done testing: it showed 30.64V at the clamps whilst showing “Off” … I have another charger; with its power on the clamps showed 16.64V … the thing is my 12V car battery is showing 14.05V at the terminals … guess the battery on its own is also a safety issue … point is, both chargers should be treated with respect at the clamps when connected to a live power source; same as a 12V or 24V batteries standing minding their own business at the corner … great tip by the way …

Check and see what the current is coming out when you see the volts with unit in OFF. It may be sending out a "sense" voltage which is often just a small trickle and may be actually harmless. If it is jumping it is most likely just "Looking" for a load. a floating voltage is common in many applications. Does the Kilawatt show any power being pulled? What is the power draw in OFF vs full charging rate on a dead battery? It does say it is "Smart Automatic Maintainer Trickle Charger" so it is probably doing a float charge regardless if there is a load or not. I agree that is not best as OFF should be completely OFF and not trickle. It should have an OUTPUT RELAY so it can completely isolate aka shut off the output in the OFF mode.

I have 2 of those red ones, both with "Foxsur" on the back like yours. They both do the same thing and, coincidentally, when connected to LiFePo4 battery (ies) also show a wattage draw of 38W on a Kill-o-Watt meter with the charger display reading "FULL" and no flashing of LEDs. It must be doing something.

discovered that resistance is high with those battery clamps and these battery chargers are sensitive to resistance...so keep the charger charging the battery to 100% connection was secured by nut and bolt...and quick disconnects between battery and charger. a good solution for tolling motor/charger/battery.

I use a 5$ buck. It can handle 20a with a fan. Works great in parallel too if needed. Charged a 12v250ah many times using 3 in parallel at 40a. I just charge to 14v. The amp will hit zero when done. I charge smaller ones too, lile 32650 and other. Can set both amps & volt as i need. Got one on my 24v solar pumping out 14v to all my 12v fans & lights all over the house.

Both extremely overpriced. You can get server power supplies converted to CC CV power supplies. 0-15V 0-50A and there is even one that is 0-15V 0-100A. The first one is about $60 shipped and the latter is $110 shipped. There is also a 0-100V 0-20A (0-15A on 120V circuit) charger for $110 shipped.

@@PS-kq1ur for the first two I mentioned yes, there is no current cut off at a certain point (typically 0.05C is the cutoff point) For the third one I mentioned I believe you can set a cutoff. I know the more expensive ZXD2400 (~$220 depending on which version you get, they have different displays) has a ton of adjustability and that includes current cutoff

I think it is a "wake up" voltage for LiFePO4 batteries. If the battery BMS disconnected due to low voltage (dead < 9 volts or so), you can't charge it until the BMS sees voltage at the terminals that is above it's disconnect voltage. Many newer battery chargers that are not lithium specific take a voltage measurement (requires no output from charger, just like your voltmeter) to determine charging voltage (i.e. 6,12 or 24 volt). If the charger sees no voltage, it won't charge- useless if BMS is disconnected. LiFePO4 chargers send a voltage to "wake up" a disconnected BMS so charging can begin. Sometimes you can even wake up a BMS with a little square 9 volt battery. Still "Off" should be "off". Bad design.

Were your chargers in 24V mode, before getting the 30V readings? My charger was used at 12V before reading 17V in "OFF". There seems to be little to no amperage in the leads. Any load, like a small light bulb sends it into error mode and the voltage drops off. Maybe it is a sensing current sent from the charger to detect the battery condition? Other than this anomaly, the charger works great.
@senselessfun
@senselessfun 5 месяцев назад
I just tested and checked mine again and same result. I think you may be onto something regarding the charger trying to detect battery. My units have only been used for 12v but the chargers automatically detect what the battery voltage is. I hooked it up to my 12v 50ah ampertime battery and it then showed 12v on the charger. Unhook the battery and shows no 12v or 24v on the display. It still shows 30V on the leads though after unhooking the battery from charger. Not exactly sure what the issue is but I also agree the chargers work great other than this weird thing.

Thanks for sharing! I've been looking at these. I'm not crazy about the way they mount, I probably would prefer front and rear mounts to bolt them down for more strength, but I guess they work fine as is and this requires less footings. I'm looking for something that's semipermanent, seeing these assembled in your video gave me the idea of maybe mounting these on something like a PT 4"x6" for some ground clearance and not anchoring it into the ground... Instead, use 6 screw anchors (3F, 3R) and then tie them down from the beams. This would be easily (re)movable and be less hassle than digging and pouring concrete, not to mention a lot less hassle than removing said concrete! If you used something like ratchet straps, you could even easily adjust the tilt a little with the straps, lol!
