Evs are still comically expensive, and most places don’t have charging infastructure. Buy a new subaru for 30l that can last 300k miles if you take care of it.

38 y/o, 170k in retirement accounts, 325k in brokerage and a 40k emergency fund. Own house, no debt, about 1M net worth. Retirement value is a bit low as I never focused on it until now. I'm now maxing 401k/IRA/HSA and putting about 1.5k into the brokerage account each month. I just wish I started investing earlier as most of what I saved is literally from dumping all my cash into my checking account over the past 20 years.

It's recommended to save at least 20% of your income in a 401k. You can use online calculators to estimate how much you should save based on your age and income. Saving at least 20% of your income in a 401(k) can help ensure that you have enough money to retire comfortably. By saving this much, you can take advantage of compound interest and potentially grow your retirement savings over time.

Effective personal finance management is more important than the amount of money saved, regardless of whether income is earned through job or investment. Individuals can seek counsel from a certified financial advisor to optimize financial outcomes, who can provide specialized advice and methods to decrease expenses and maximize income.

I agree, that's the more reason I prefer my day to day investment decisions being guided by an advisor, seeing that their entire skillset is built around going long and short at the same time both employing risk for its asymmetrical upside and laying off risk as a hedge against the inevitable downward turns, coupled with the exclusive information/analysis they have, it's near impossible to not out-perform, been using my advisor for over 2years+ and I've netted over 2.8million.

Once upon a time, I was an eager investor. With high hopes and dreams, I diligently built my investment portfolio over the years. But as the tides of the market turned against me, my once-promising investments began to crumble. Stock prices plummeted, bonds defaulted, and my hopes faded away. With each passing day, my portfolio dwindled, mirroring the sinking feeling in my heart. I watched helplessly as my hard-earned savings vanished, leaving behind a lingering sadness and a stark reminder of the unpredictability of the financial world. I'm here again because I want to get back on track.I need ideas to get on on a recovery process.

Losses can provide valuable lessons and insights into the intricacies of the financial market. They can highlight areas where improvements can be made in investment strategies, risk management, or research. By reflecting on the losses and learning from mistakes, one can enhance their knowledge and skills, which can contribute to future success. I don;t have much to give but my thoughts are with you.

You can get back on track by following this simple process: Take stock of your financial goals, risk tolerance, and investment timeline. Understand your investment losses and the factors that contributed to the decline. This self-assessment will help you communicate your needs effectively to a financial advisor. Remember to seek the help of a professional financial planner(CPF) as you start over, which is what you should've done from the get go.

I'm sure the idea of an investment-Adviser might sound controversial to a few, but a new study by Motley-fool found out that demand for Financial-Advisers sky-rocketed by over 42% since the pandemic and based on firsthand encounter I can say for certain their skillsets are topnotch. I've accrued north of 880k within 16-months from an initially stagnant Portfolio.

Certainly. Exchange-Traded Funds (ETFs) are popular for long-term investments due to their diversified nature. ETFs offer exposure to a wide range of assets, such as stocks, bonds, or commodities, which can help reduce risk. Some top choices for long-term investing include broad market index ETFs, sector-specific ETFs, and bond ETFs, as they provide potential for growth and income over an extended period while minimizing the risk associated with individual stocks.

Numerous compelling stocks span various industries for you to consider tracking. While it's not necessary to act on every prediction, enlisting the guidance of a financial advisor is advisable. They can assist you in determining optimal entry and exit points for purchasing and selling shares or ETFs, ensuring well-timed decisions aligned with your investment goals.

Here's a much easier way to make this work. Take the annuity option and put the money in an investment. Buy property or do something with a bank i don't know. But first Google and check countries around the world where your dollar can last longer. For example with that money you can live extremely comfortably in places like Dubai, Greece, south east asia etc. You would need less than 2-5 million usd annually to live like a king with servants especially in South East Asia. You can easily pay your servants a proper salary that's 10 times the market rate and still not even be a drop in the bucket for you. 1000 usd a month unlocks a upper middle level of income in south east asia. If you live 10k per month you can literally live in a palace if you wanted to. So to recap. Go abroad with your annuity to a more cheaper country and live the big life there. Keep the rest of the money you don't need immediately in bonds or treasuries basically government backed securities with tax incentives. Keep receiving your annuities and live your paradise life among the elite in South East asia or comparable countries where you can stretch that dollar. You can easily die and leave your kids the money when you're old. Lump sum means you will give money to inexperienced users who have zero idea what to do with it. It's very easy to lose it to tax, fraudulent hedge funds etc since people are generally financially illiterate..

I got to say, this is not really feasible anymore. You can hardly get that shitbox with 250,000 mi for 6 grand, 10% of ~60 grand/yr which is what the vast majority of Americans make. Used car prices have gone absolutely through the roof and have more expensive repairs than ever. I just ran into this issue with my nearly 20-year-old car that repairs were so expensive and even impossible to find parts that it wasn't worth fixing. This was the exact thing Dave Ramsey touted for years as the standard for auto costs, it's just not feasible anymore in the real world.

Beware insurance companies offering a Driving Tracker to help "Save" you money. It plugs into the Diagnostic port (OBD connector) and feeds all sorts of information to all sorts of 3rd party agencies, along with the insurance company. Speed, location, driving time, destinations, addresses etc. ANY trivial driving situation can result in your insurance rate getting increased. Sped up fast to avoid a large truck? - thats a Paddlin. Braked hard to avoid a kid on a skateboard? - thats a Paddlin. Engaged traction control pulling away from an icy intersection? - ohhhh you better BELIEVE thats a Paddlin. Stay gold.

I'm 58 years old and have always lived a little above my means. While I don't have much savings, I do have a pension and plenty of equity invested in my home. My feeling has always been, "You can't take it with you". I have friends my age that are still living frugal and saving so they can live comfortably in the 60's and 70's and hopefully 80's. To me, I wanted to live well during my prime and I'm fine with cutting back as I enter old age.

Addicted car guy here, ask these dealers the following questions: What’s interest rate on a purchase of a car. Also what’s the dealer being paid by the bank for originating a loan for you? It’s usually a few hundred dollars, or more. If the dealer won’t give you the money, advise you’ll arrange your own financing. Same question for a leased vehicle. Leases all have an interest rate involved with them. On a lease, what’s the residual value at the end of the lease? Like this guy said if you trade vehicles frequently because you like to drive new ones probably leasing is the best and easiest way to go. Even if you go in to buy a vehicle, ask what the lease rate would be. Then ask what the residual is. If you really like the vehicle, you’re about to purchase, and you want to keep it for a long time, if the manufacturer has a really good lease rate out there, and there’s a pretty low residual value, it might be beneficial to lease and purchase the vehicle at the end of the lease. If there is excellent financing on a purchase, just go for the purchase and don’t mess with the lease. With this knowledge, you can make an informed decision as whether you should lease or purchase. I’ve had 61 new cars since 2000. I have done it both ways which has allowed me to buy or lease 61 vehicles. Another advantage is see if you want to purchase it at the end of the lease, but while driving it for a number of years, and you really don’t like the vehicle. You’re afforded the opportunity to turn it in to the dealer and walk away from the thing. if you had purchased it, you’ll have to sell the car without getting all the value it has to offer. Hope this helps you fellow car nutz! 😂🚘

It’s never straight forward. It’s more about behavior than numbers. I just turned 40 and don’t have anywhere near 3x my salary in my 401k. However, it’s well over 3x the average salary. That formula doesn’t account for income growth. As long as you’re putting 10+% aside and live below your means you’ll be fine!😊
