I had a chat with my Empower rep several months ago about that very savings chart. The rep informed me that a better way to view it is try and be AT the median goal at the beginning of your 20's, 30's, etc. Their hope, and surely ours, is that after a 10 year period we'll of course be paid more than at the beginning. With good planning when you're young, it'd blow the top end easily away. Also even if you are later to the savings game, such as myself sadly, with sound planning and compounded interest, all those numbers are easily beatable. It is possible, markets willing, I could hit the stated median at the end of my 40's. Even if I do not however, by the end of my 50's I'll be will above the median listed there. Informative video as always!

A good number of people discredit the effectiveness of financial advisors in exploring new markets, but over the past 10years I’ve had a financial advisor consistently restructure and diversify my portfolio/expenses and I’ve made over $3million in gains… might not be a lot but i'm financially secure.

Success depends on the actions or steps you take to achieve it. Building wealth involves developing good habits like regularly putting money away in intervals for solid investments. I used to work as an investment advisor. The advice presented in the video is excellent and holds true for the average American. While it's a fact that money can't directly buy genuine happiness, it does provide the means to access experiences that can lead to happiness. However, for individuals with a substantial portfolio, say around $5 million, if you observe closely, you'll find that most people in their 70s are still quite active (I live in LA), but by the time they reach 80, their activity levels tend to decline. So, it's essential to enjoy life at some point before it's too late. That enjoyable vacation might well be the experience that brings comfort in your later years. It's important to distinguish between spending money wisely and squandering it. Be prudent in your value-conscious spending.
@Michaelparker12

Experienced the same thing. The financial counselor we met with last year told us, "Guys, you've already made it," even though my spouse has retired. Stop delaying enjoyable activities in life.

I completely agree. I'm 54 years old and recently retired with roughly $1.8m in outside retirement funds, no debt, and very little money in retirement funds relative to the total value of my portfolio over the past 3 years. To be honest, the Fin-advisor's role can only be downplayed, not dismissed. Simply try to identify a reliable one. Spending money on possibilities and things that might not exist much sooner than we realize is completely different from wasting it. As you said, being value-conscious is essential.

Great video Humphrey!!! Getting rid of debt was a massive step in improving my finances. Also making sure having an emergency fund (total stress reliever as well) & ensuring you are spending last month’s paycheck so automating money into various savings/brokerage accounts is seamless (i.e, not living paycheck to paycheck). Also, appreciate some tips/advice for those of who did not have their shit together in their 20s or for most of their 30s!

Depending on the opportunity cost. What do you have a surplus of? Generally speaking, most people at that stage will have a surplus of time and energy. The best option is usually to find a second job, finish w/e the certification, or degree you are hoping to achieve, and begin to find a job that pays better.

@Bamapride1985
@Bamapride1985 Месяц назад
The way I have always answered that question is the credit cards are still gonna be there and have the credit line available to use in the rare chance of an emergency. If you are saving more while having debt, you are defeating the purpose of saving (building wealth). Once you are not losing 20+% in interest from the debt, then start saving and building wealth.

My house expenses for a month raising 3 kids, wife and large dog is 7600$ That's zero to clothes, zero to hobbies or going out. And we have zero debt besides a truck payment and mortgage. Wife and I haven't gone out in over 8 years. I pack my own lunches for work, 90% of our clothes are purchased used, and the kids are in MMA which is pretty expensive. @nicholasharvey5628
@nicholasharvey5628 28 дней назад
Really thinking about it, I think having it together by 30 is great, but I really feel like age NEEDS to be taken out of the equation here. It kind of gets frustrating when watching this, because so many people who are close to the age of 30, like myself really struggle with having their entire salary saved up. Plus, Fidelity pushes that for your 401k. Some people have so many college loans that it is impossible to have this. The internet or at least resources that provide advice should approach this concept with steps rather than age. Realistically we are all in a different stage in our life and learned how to be more financially responsible at different times. I love these videos, but this is just something I just needed to share.
