I don't know right off the top of my head. I go by the service manual. They will usually need to be checked right around the first oil change. These bikes are super easy to work on. Usually checks are every 7500 miles or so afterwards. In my experience with bikes in general, the first check might require an adjustment, and after that, the valves usually hold their adjustment for several thousand miles before needing additional adjustment again.
@@MotoVated207 Im going to get the exact same one as you. Sounds so good. Im thinking of purchasing a my first bike 2016 ninja 1000 off of marketplace, seller had it listed at $4300 at 38k miles
Hi Brandon I’m always looking for someone to ride with and in different places so if you would be willing to have me tag along let me know! I’m 65 and ride a ktm 300 thanks
Is it even worth rebuilding these? I got the same bike and I hear a bit of ticking when it runs I just don’t see it being worth dumping tons of money into it to rebuild
It's a preference really. The XR's really hold their value. In our area, a bike like this, non running in this economy is around 1k, so for me it was. Plus if you enjoy this stuff as a hobby that's another reason to rebuild versus buying new. The ticking is probably your timing chain needing adjustment.
I think the new top end was around $300 using all oem parts and gaskets. They are bullet proof so to me its not about attachment. Whenever I go into these projects I try to remember that im hoping to at least break even when all is said and done. Fun for free basically.
I got a xr100r too I’ve absolutely loved the bike runs pretty good seems to have low compression it’s pretty easy to kick over but starts 1st kick all the time what are some signs of when the motor is worn out ?
This one kicks over real easy too . I think it's just the nature of it. Mine was blowing blue smoke and I felt pretty confident it hadnt ever been freshed up so thats what made me decide to pull it apart.
great video. for scanning the road while riding i think of it like the radar in a jet but i add mirror checks as two bars of scanning. 4 front 2 rear. my first check is looking way ahead then closer and closer sweeping back and forth and side to side constantly. then mirror left and right checks and continue. then for leaning into corners 25 and 30 mph subdivisions are perfect practice areas as well if they have good turns and not just grid patterns. use all counter steering for the turns and get used to that then practice avoiding spots in the road on top of this i later run the same line with mostly body position to turn with very minimal counter steering to keep bike more upright yet track the same turn you are just wiring all the things into the brain and sorting them then you use them both for certain times. another great trick for intersections anywhere a car can pull out from never look at the car watch the front wheel only and dont focus on it make it a secondary peripheral track. that way if they do come out you see it in the wheel and you know the direction so it gives you extra knowledge at a faster rate than looking at the dummy behind the wheel not paying attention most likely. i always ride in the prepped and ready position on brakes and clutch in most cases as well. thus shortening the reaction time to stop to gear down or up accelerate as well. never can fade from staying sharp on one the moment you realize you have lost focus you find a safe place to pull over and rezone in luckily i dont have that happen but it does occur and we must always stay vigilant in it
how do you know that the voltage regulator will prevent the lithium ion battery from overcharging and bursting into flames under the seat and in between your legs?

That was fun! I hope that you do well on your surgery. I would like to see a video on how you do your videos and editing. FYI take it from somebody who knows I have about 10 years on you. Try to do as much exercise before your surgery. Low impact of course. It will help in your recovery. Thanks again for a good video!!
Thanks man I appreciate it! I think that's a great idea and I'm sure a lot of folks wonder how I do it. I will make a point to do a behind the scenes video when I'm laid up. Lord knows I'm going to have some free time on my hands
Well done ol’ fella. You’re a sucker for punishment 😂😂😂, both my knees are shot, but atm I’m keeping it quiet from the doctors. I’m their spare parts body 😂😂. After the heart op, 3 cancer ops, liver and gallbladder ops, I ain’t got nuttin left. Knowing my luck they lop my legs off. I used to change sprockets & chain on my H1 at least one a month, rear sprocket would wear out quick. My bike only had 2 speeds, flat out & stopped, but that was in the 70s. Had a mate with a Z1 and I could stick with him to about 90 then he’d pull away. He got a heck of a surprise after I swapped sprockets, he was cruising at about 115 mph and I went passed him so far he nearly got off to find out why his bike stopped 🤣🤣🤣. The H1 would top out about 110, no idea what it was capable of, my speedo topped out at 120, but I reckon I was much faster than that, but never did it again, scared the begeezus out of me. Top job on bike, don’t kill yourself! I’ll never speak to you again if ya do! Cheers to ya.
Fellow Mainer here, riding to Laconia can be a gamble like last year it rained the entire time and my wife and I took the car. Boy I was so glad we did
Same for us. A few years ago it rained on the way there and torrential rain on the way back. 3 out of the 4 years we've been caught up in rain. 3 years ago I loaded the bike on our small utility trailer and drove there in our nice air conditioned vehicle and it was the best trip ever. Now if it rains, we just unhook the trailer and go sight seeing. It's so much more enjoyable this way
It's definitely not a good move in my opinion. They are excluding a whole group of people that can bring more revenue to the clubs. It's the whole Harley vs Sport bike mindset when neither is better than the other. In fact, I would also argue that your more likely to run into a drunk driver on a side by side than you are on a dirtbike.
It's closed from home depot all the way to where the trail crossed over by Gagnon Road and Fairfiled St. That point forward is open, including the new section of rail bed. I was on it last week ;)
@@MotoVated207 I’ve never been on it at all. 45 and just got my first dirt bike, so definitely new to the whole thing. If you’re ever interested I’d love to find people my own age to ride with.
Excellent job Brandon! Man I see you do things and it makes me want to do the same ! Although challenging it seems rewarding! I ok got an oddball question for you ? I have the 2000 xr100r I want to do at least minimum new piston rings and likely new piston. I’ve noticed that oem Honda piston and rings are different part #s for 2000 model versus 2001 + I wonder what’s the difference the engines look 100% identical outside
Thank you! I appreciate your kind words. As far as interchangeability between the years, I have no idea. I buy all my parts through Motosport. They have awesome customer service and will guide you in the right direction.
The Athena gasket kit did NOT have that rectangular seal but the stock honda gasket did. It smoked using both styles. I even thought it was the weird bushing at oil pump.area that gets the o-ring and even with OEM gaskets and seals it was still blowing smoke. I'm thinking the domed piston must have kissed one of the stock valves. I can't think of any other reason.
This whole series has been extremely helpful and very well explained! Thank you for the guidance! Now, if you could restore a pw 50.. that would be great!!😂😂
@MotoVated207 that's great news!! My next project for my 10yr old daughter is a 07 ttr50 it needs a lot of help haha but that's what makes it fun! Can't wait to watch some videos on it! My current rides for the family are 2008 polaris ranger 500 (moms) 2004 pw50 (4yr son) 07 ttr50 (daughter) and I'm on a 2002 xr100r. Can't wait for some ttr content
I hope you did come back and cleaned the flywheel. I have cleaned customers flywheels due to no spark or very little spark. cleaned them and engine started right up. This video will help me also with my xr100.
I need to bite the bullet and buy one. They are surley nice looking inside of walls before renovating as well as deteriorating tank internals like stationary compressors. I must say immage quality looks great on that scope! 👍
Oh wow that's a great idea! Looking inside tanks! I'm thinking gas tanks too and compressor tanks like you mentioned. The image quality is incredible. You won't be dissapointed.
