Great video. Having done all of it, and certain sections multiple times, was great view of everything it has to offer. I’ve seen many versions of riding the Cent trail and I think yours tops the list. It’s the first of your videos I’ve seen, but I really appreciated the way you explained the side bits… like accomodation, and the arboretum.

Great video, had the CT on my list for a while but this has really pumped my interest in going. The footage makes it appear that a mountain bike is a necessity, is that right? What would it be like attempting it with a gravel bike?
@advanturest
@advanturest 2 дня назад
@@PeterDyall-bn7ut I was full rigid and had no problems at all. My tyres were probably a bit wider than what you would run at 2.25. Saying this, I’d 100% give it a crack on a gravel bike. There might be the odd rough section but when I did it, it was pretty smooth. A lot of the sections would actually be best on a gravel bike.

Same with a 29er and 27.5 on 27.5/27.5+ fox 38s still work's with the end of the scale offset being 44mm it works good with a 2.5 magic mary i done this as a test for a mullet set up on my 27.5+ fox 38s. I don't use bigger than a 2.4/2.5 tyre anyway and its working just fine

As a 73 yer old that did a lot of backpacking before taking up mountain biking 40 years ago particularly from Canberra to Kosi I became distressed that still trying to mountain bike adventure was gone. Thanks Peter. I love hearing storied like this. The E-bike is such a great tool for many reasons. My wife Sarah has a lung condition, she would love to come on these trips with me but its just not possible. One day we would like to get an E-bike. One for me to have fun on but secondly it means she could come on these bikepacking adventures. I hope the E bike treats you well and enjoy the adventure! P.s, I was the shy kid at school. As a kiwi, watching many of these videos about travelling the South Island I can usually pick out some errors, poor naming of towns, etc. This one was perfect. Glad you had such a good time and enjoyed sharing your holiday. One note of caution (if I may) don't leave it too late to descend from Roys Peak. The track is tricky in the dark. Sarah was justified in being worried.

Thanks mate. I'm known to pronounce things wrong so to hear this is nice. Ever since this trip i've been desperate to go back. Your country is a beautiful place. Even in the dark 😉 I was surprised at how many animals came out on the walk down in the dark, There was so many sheep on the trail. I felt like i was intruding. It was kind of a little spooky. Apart from that it wasn't too bad. from memory i had a head torch. Sarah was probably more worried about being alone haha. Cheers!

great video! mate, have you done any calculations for your front fork? the whole braking force goes onto one side and the braking force is much higher compared to rim brakes. I am looking for calculations online, but cant find anything.
@advanturest
@advanturest 9 дней назад
No I haven't sorry. I have heard a few people say things like this but i'm a bit of a hack and didn't care. If that was an issue then nobody could convert a rim brake fork. I just wanted to try and see what happened. I've converted 3 old bikes to disc brakes and have ridden with a few others with converted forks. No one has an issue. You might be correct to say modern forks have a thicker wall to compensate for the forces closer to the axle but i can't image there would be much difference. I do heaps of bikepacking trips with fully loaded bikes and yeah, No issues, no sense of twisting etc. Good Luck with your search.

Thanks, great ride. Greetings from the 'Slow Cyclists'. We're always looking for new 1-2 day rides. We recently rode from Bell train station to Newnes, overnighted in a cabin, then rode back to Lithgow station the next day. A while ago we did a 2 day trip from Richmond station to Gosford along the Hawkesbury, through Glendale valley, finishing at Gosford station. Video here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-NUg514VmFwM.html

Greetings! How was the Newnes trip? I was very close to doing that ride this weekend. I was going to park at the Zig Zag railway, ride down through the glow worm tunnel, hike a bike for a bit. Camp at Newnes, and then come back up the old coach road. I have some friends that are keen but aren't available this weekend, I'd feel bad doing it without them so I've canned it. Very keen to make it happen soon though. Just watched your video. Some places look familiar. looked like a good ride.
@mickeypower
@mickeypower Месяц назад
@@advanturest The ride from Bell train station is not that interesting. It goes through recently culled state forest. Where it's interesting is from entrance to Nat Pk, the top of the Old Coach Road which winds steeply down past turn-off to Glow Worm tunnel to Wogan Valley creek. The appeal of Wogan Valley is that basically the road in and out has collapsed, a new one is being built and so there's hardly any traffic or visitors. There's an awesome campground in Newnes which is empty too. It's worth getting a cabin there for the minimum two nights then riding/bushwalking around. Glow worm tunnel is definitely worth the visit.

So funny when people see their homes on here. It's happened a few times now. P.s do you live at the skate park? 😂 I had to go and have a look at 23:49. I'd like to come and ride some of those trails. I have done Stromlo a few times and Majura once. but it's probably been 10 years since I went to Majura. My guess the last time I rode Stromlo would have been about 2016 / 2017. These days whenever I have a free weekend I try go film a bike packing trip so its hard to do everything.

Loved the Video! As the designer of the Centenary Trail (and the arboretum trails) I really enjoyed hearing the perspective of a first time rider. You pretty much rode it in the direction I always do (though I do like riding down the Murrumbidgee bit…). As I understand it the arboretum trails will officially be included in to the loop (including the loop to the top of Dairy Farmers Hill) - so happy to say you didn’t really leave the trail. The trail has evolved over the last few years, and at the time we were constrained with the ‘7 day walk/3 day cycle’ requirement. I’d suggest that the Tuggeranong section might change a little, following the Murrumbidgee to Lanyon and then onto Tuggeranong Hill and back north. It’ll add another 30k but all single track with stunning views north south east and west at different times. There are a few other bits of single trail that have been added and hopefully, sometime soon there’ll be a few more peaks for cyclists (with nice climbs and descents added - I’ve still got all of the original planned gos alignments 😊).

Some of the changes sound awesome, you had me at stunning views. I'll definitely have to do it again when all this is released. Is there an offical route online anywhere? When I did it I just used a GPX file from a friend that had done it. The GPS download on the centenary trail website bounces all over the place. All the signs are good but a decent GPX file to know you're 100% on the right trail would be good. looking forward to hearing about these extra areas opening up. Cheers!
