Revisiting this one since I am getting back into the game again. The scoring bomb tricks are very helpful - though I probably won't gamble with my life on stage 5! I had also forgotten how much of a close call it was during the final boss. Great video all around and the captions are helpful!
I refuse to believe that you conquered the first loop without using even a single bomb, let alone dying. You clearly have some sort of blueprint or just mastered every bit of the game to have the confidence and skills to effortlessly ace it. Anyways, very satisfying to watch someone completing a difficult game from my childhood.
That was a miscalculation bug at the in-game score display when killing the final boss gives you 60k instead of 50k what it supposed to be. The score at the initials entry screen is the correct score.
Yeah this was a calculation bug in the game even the original arcade would do this. Some would say it was part of the programming that it would deduct points for lives lost at the end of 2-8. No sure if that was true or not but someone had done a world record run of 2.3million (highest in Japan is 2.4 with Zero fighter, shinden and P38 lightning) and his suicide his lives on the final boss to pick up power up and his final score remained at the end.
The first time I played this game was at the Cambrian College arcade room, the post-secondary school located in Sudbury, Ontario, Canada. It was back in December 1997. The farthest I got in the was stage 4 because I didn’t want to waste my lunch money at the arcade, but if I used more quarters I would’ve beaten the game, but then I wouldn’t have any money left for lunch and I would have to wait until after school before I got home and have supper.
Thats very interesting. I played the Japanese version at the arcades and that game had limited special weapon use (each weapon had a charge bar which would run out). So the counrty of origin (japan) doesn't define the difference between versions of the game, just (New Version)? Terrific run, BTW.
Yeah, the version you played was the "Old Version", the original release of the game, which doesn't have the "New Version" text on the title screen. Thanks for the compliment!
Fantastic run!! Did you practice using the Steam version or is there a way to use savestates through emulation or something? (It'd be great for practicing specific parts to see how far medals can be pushed) :D
Amazing run ! I'm always so happy to see new 1CCs for this great game. It's so good to see that it has good emulation now :) It's great that you were able to stay focus despite your infortunate death at stage 3 boss. For a first 1CC of this hard-ass game your score is very high (mine was like 15M), also some things you do for score are more optimized than what I do, so definetely gonna steal some stuff haha. Great use of the "swap-lock" technique too ! If I may here's two things I'd like to add : - It's the full destruction of stages's ennemies (0% ennemies remaining) that makes the rank go up, full destruction of the bosses don't add to rank. - It's still possible to exploit the bomb bug even if you drop a bomb, you just need to pick up another bomb and then the bomb after that will still give you 655,371 points. As you can see KTL-NAL drops a bomb at 15:20 to skip the crazy middle stage part with the two big ennemies and then he continues to exploit the bug by collecting bombs : www.bilibili.com/video/BV1ot411j7bA?p=2. This is the WR with S.O.Q 004 by the way. This bug was a developper oversight, and it's what I dislike the most about this game. It ruins the scoring system a bit since for top scores instead of having to chain extra power-ups for crazy rank we ended up with a DDP wannabee in which you have to keep rank low and pray for good RNG. Definetely a part of the game though, and it's something to exploit in order to reach japanese scores.
Very impressive to 2nd loop this game as well as the train stage 2nd loop. Impossible on mobile version. Definitely one of the hardest Psikyo titles to loop followed by Striker's 1945. Still trying to 2CC no miss the 2nd loop with no credit feed
Cooll. Hey, that boss close to end, the crab one, that you stopped shooting at him, you did it because there was no more bombs? Or because if you fight him he becomes too hard later?
Hello and thanks, which part (minute) are you exactly referring to, the first or second phase? In the second phase at 26:43, I held the shot button to release the charged attack that deals a lot of damage, that way you can destroy it within one cycle. And no, it doesn't become harder when you damage him. By doing this route you can beat the crab boss consistently without bombs.
@@Maucast_Shmup I meant at 24:24, when you decided to just dodge that boss until he run out of time and exploded. What is the reason there? And your name is "Mau" too?
@@daimonmau5097 Stage7 final Crab Boss. You can defeat it by shooting it's head area only and avoid destroying its arm/pincers. 2nd loop you have to avoid the additional popcorn orb enemies that fly down. If you destroy the arms/pincers early, it spews out a rapid bullet hell which is hard to position your fighter into the blind spot.
@@millsshumps1968 Thanks men. And in case you are a expert shmuper, maybe you can answer a curiosity: on certain moments on games were the bullets are shot fast, you players reach a point were you dodge it by quick vision and reflexes only, or you learn how to dodge such attacks because of some repetition pattern (or other reason)?
@@daimonmau5097 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-fYkb09U_f74.html My best 2CC attempt on the Mobrirx mobile port. In answer to your question, this is more a positioning skill reaction game over a pure raw skill reaction game you find more commonly with Cave titles of Dodonpachi, Ketsui and so on. Psikyo titles have unpredictable counter attacks which are annoying, not fun or challenging in a reactive sense. The fun stops with Psikyo games after stage 1-3 and beyond. And as with any shoot-em-up/shumps titles doesn't matter how many times you play and think you know the game, it can still catch out you out with garbage CPU cheating just to ruin your run.
Nice run! I'm trying to 1all with Selia now. How on earth do you cancel the last boss's bullet attack at 14:58? Does your charge negate it or something?
