Times have changed. Back in my day, there was one choice. The teacher's instruction because an inevitable whooping was eminent at anytime at home or in school. Now kids feel like they lawyers, parents think their children are saints and society doesn't care what roles they play
No there is no teacher in Greece getting 1900$. Our salary starts from 885€ and you get a raise of 40€ every three years of work. For a relevant master's degree you also get payed an extra 80€ per month. For having more than two kids you also receive a small financial aid I think around 30-40€ . So an average teacher with 5 years of experience doesn't make a lot more than 1.000€ usually, meanwhile rent for a furnished ministudio is usually more than 500€ without utilities included. We also get fired every spring and we're unemployed during the summer, only to be re-hired at a different school possibly in a different city every fall... That is until we get a permanent position in our 40s... 🫤
"This is your castle, and you won't be disrespected." I've seen plenty of great teachers have their castles run over. I've seen teachers win teacher of the year because they have classes full of children that are academically able and well-behaved. The following year they get set up with the lowest academics with the worst behavior and end up frustrated and quit. And interestingly they are blamed for poor classroom management. That's the easy out for administration. It's always the teacher's fault. Students are not being held accountable. That's a parent and administrative issue. Once I saw an Inservice where a discipline specialist taught teachers classroom management. I called the specialist out and asked them to demonstrate their techniques to a particular class. Guess what? It didn't work! Some classes are OUT OF CONTROL period. Issues beyond a teacher's control. We need to be honest about that fact. Until we do, we will continue to see thousands of teachers leave every year and we will fill the classrooms with people who babysit instead of teaching. Some classes have 25 students in some areas of America with 10 on parole and some with ankle monitors. And the students will tell you, "The do not give a F**k." Will this work with some classes, yes. Will it work with all classes especially hardcore, no. That's the reality.
If your class is completely silent then that is a graveyard not a classroom. Let pupils participate and provide them friendly atmosphere as possible. Because, learning begins when fear ends.
Thank you!! It's so nice to see how education has changed to a more dinamic environment. I will definetely apply some of these activities, and thank you again for sharing your knowledge. Lots of success.
Thank you so much for information.Could you plz provide me with some links about how to teach students cause I have a New jop as teacher ,and really do nt have any small Idea about to start because I have no experiences ...My regards ❤️
The funny thing I keep noticing is that during staff meetings or district trainings, teachers act and do the same things as students and need to be quieted down.
I taught English in South Korea at an academy and my salary was $1800, and that's on the high end. Teachers at public schools usually make a bit less. Only private schools will pay close to $2500, given you have a few years experience and can teach a few different subjects :)
Thanks for all the ideas mate. In my experience the advanced students like to volunteer themselves as buddies, but I agree it's not their job, that's what I've always told em 😂
Great video. Thanks for sharing! I always love watching your content! I teach in my local country to adults from overseas. I'm often faced with a common problem. Some of my students have a genuine keen interest in learning English. However, a handful of them are not remotely interested in learning another language. They just want to get their visa. They still attend classes out of fear that they will be deported by the government for not meeting the attendance requirement, but they are incredibly difficult to teach. No matter how fun and interactive you try to make the lessons, they refuse to engage. They just don't want to be there. They've even asked me if they can just be marked as present and not rock up to class. To be honest, I'm not sure if I want to teach them anymore if that's their attitude. I don't really want to teach people who are not willing to learn. You put in so much time and effort to deliver a fun & engaging lesson to these students, but they still refuse to participate. The other annoying thing is they're so disruptive in the classroom and stop the other keen students from learning properly. If it's possible to get some advice on this one, I'd be most appreciative, but I know it's a difficult problem to resolve.
This is a complete bs In France I’df didn’t pass “concours “ You make 1700 and not 3400😉 Most teachers have miserable life here Been teaching for 5 years at the private high school, not even close to the salary that you’ve announced
I've got my first interview for an ESL job tomorrow morning and your video was so helpful to put my ideas together! I'll let you know if I'm hired 🙏Thank you so much no matter the outcome of my interview!
What age group are you actually thinking of when you say “young” learners? Plus, do you think teaching teens is basically the same as teaching kids or not?
Hi there, Young learners I would put from kindergarten to elementary school. There are massive differences between younger and older students to consider when teaching: Their development (physical, emotional and social), independence, but the biggest is probably their attention spans. Teachers need to use different engagement strategies and communication depending on what students they are teaching.
Thank you Eric for the amazing lecture on how to teach kindergarten online. This will be my first time from June to take a class online. How do I make it an hour class when zoom is just for 40/45 mins?
You can pay for Zoom to be unlimited. However, what I did without paying, is just instruct my students to relog in at 35min. It's fast and they usually don't have a problem with it. :)
